Or a rabbit, or a goldfish, or a cuddly toy.

Gosh @PowPurry he is stunning! And hats off. Not sure I could do baby and puppy at the same time! It will be lovely for them all to grow up together. My pup is a 13 week old springer and much the same as yours has slept through from the start. Daytime sleeps are a work in progress however!

@WomblingKnobhead I hope it is good news for you. I’m sure it will be ok. I am sorry about your sister x

Handsfullofholes · 18/12/2021 12:53

We had our first walk today! Felt it was time as we went on one of our “carry to the park” sessions and he was itching to get down.

He had a whale of a time! Even went off the lead!

Utterly terrified of the other dogs we met though Grin

LadyCatStark · 18/12/2021 13:10

@WomblingKnobhead hope you get good news next Friday 🤞.

We’ve just been out for a walk and came back to find we’d accidentally left the front door open and a bird has been in and pooed in the living room 😵. There’s not sign of it now fingers crossed as I have a phobia of birds!

GuyFawkesDay · 18/12/2021 13:57

Argh @LadyCatStark!!

Really hope all is well @WomblingKnobhead XXX

@Handsfullofholes pup will get confidence so quickly. And those walks tire them out so much!

Well, the Hound of the Twatskervilles struck again today. I stupidly let his long line go on our walk and the little shit chased 4 pheasants. Disappeared over the field and out of sight.....thankfully he did come back almost immediately but no more off lead for him for a bit. What a twat. He then went in the field ditches a good 4 foot deep and got the long line stuck in brambles and I had to go untangle him 🙄

Anyway, all the excitement has tired him out now so I am hoping to get some peace.

This split season is really, really tough. She's bleeding far more heavily than in her normal seasons and is so uncomfortable. She's also highly anxious and we've had to take time away from our Separation Anxiety training. Earlier in the week she wouldn't even settle on the sofa whilst I worked at the dining table, I ended up with her bed under the table and her curled around my feet.

We're also finding the short street walks frustrating as other than a short gap after her second season it's been a while. She's definitely still attractive though, so will have to put up with it!

Aria20 · 18/12/2021 14:50

@TerrierOrTerror that's a real pain having the split season...how long has she bled for this time? Whilst I'm dreading have pup spayed in spring I'm also glad I won't have to deal with another season.

TerrierOrTerror · 18/12/2021 17:01

@Aria20 so far a week of really heavy bleeding. She was super light for her first season in summer and then the first part of this one in November (we saw some spots for about 2.5 weeks each time, but hardly anything).

We're booked in for a keyhole spay in March. We were advised to let her have a second season to continuing maturing and I really wanted to get her closer to being 2 before the spay but she really struggled emotionally and if this were to happen again it's just not fair. Not looking forward to the spay either but it's for the best!

GuyFawkesDay · 18/12/2021 18:02

Poor Terrorpup, that sounds really hard for you all

GuyFawkesDay · 18/12/2021 22:16

This made me laugh fellow spaniel owners

Oh no. Sorry to hear about the split season thing. I had to Google. Never heard of it. Hope she is all better soon.

Ddog given us (another) fright today. Had a mega allergic reaction to something unknown and her poor little eyes and muzzle swelled up to comic proportions..horrible welts as well on her undercarriage. I'm baffled..she has now settled (eventually, after being awake for 7 hours) on a hefty dose of piriton as advised by the vet.

tizwozliz · 19/12/2021 13:59

Ada has started earning her keep today, she found two arrows that had missed their target and were totally buried (plus a bonus mystery arrow). Mind blowing that she can sniff them out, just can't comprehend it. First time we've asked her to find lost arrows and not ones placed for her to find.

Going to put the Christmas tree up later, will see what she thinks to that but won't risk anything sentimental or breakable.

Split season sounds hard work - did you know it was a split season after the first part @TerrierOrTerror ? I'm really hoping that Ada has her first season later so that we don't have to let her have two before spaying.

@Goawayangryman - any ideas what might have caused it? I can't remember if @WomblingKnobhead ever found out the cause of her boy's similar reaction

LadyCatStark · 19/12/2021 14:18

@GuyFawkesDay that works for labs too 😂.

tizwozliz · 19/12/2021 15:25

Already regretting the Christmas tree🎄🎄!

Goawayangryman · 19/12/2021 16:12

@tizwozliz that is amazing. What a clever dog. Yes to Christmas tree pain. Ours is now barricaded in after several fun games Along lines of 'chase me around to remove the glass baubles from my jaws'.

No idea what caused the reaction. Something environmental I think, like a slow winter bee or wasp, she has eaten one of those before. Or potentially a toad in the garden, or consumed some ivy. No idea. Was dramatic though. I'd given her drontal and nexgard earlier in the day, but the timeline didn't seem quite right.

TerrierOrTerror · 19/12/2021 16:28

@tizwozliz we thought her second season in November was fairly short, but no obvious signs. She behaved exactly the same way as her first season and both were super light with only a few spots of blood, so when she started bleeding really heavily last weekend we panicked and shot to the vets.

If anything she's more attractive to the boys than when she was properly in season too, so that's fun with entire males owned by both our direct neighbours.

tizwozliz · 19/12/2021 19:01

Not sure she's overly impressed with the Christmas bandana I made her

Billy was thoroughly unimpressed that the pet shop is shut on a Sunday.

My poor animal had a Christmas jumper (thanks daughter). So unimpressed I couldn't even get a photo.

Goawayangryman · 19/12/2021 22:42

Has, not had.

Yesterday DH had to drive to a town an hour away. The pup loves the car so DH decided to bring him along. It was a very successful trip by all accounts. DH says that the pup spent the whole drive looking out the window, very interested in all the new sights. They went for a walk in the other town, then DH took care of the business he needed to do, and then drove back. As soon as they arrived home the pup immediately took a nap. He hadn't had much physical exercise but I guess all the new sights and sounds and smells had tired him out!

cheeseisthebest · 20/12/2021 15:21

Also not impressed!

Hello fellow pup owners! Had dpup nearly 8 weeks now. He’s a dear little thing and mostly pretty chilled however his new thing is barking… mainly on walks and not really at anything/anyone. We can’t work out if it’s just excitement and aren’t sure if we should just ignore or try something else?
Currently just ignoring and carrying on but never know what the right thing is Smile

Stretchandsnap · 20/12/2021 16:43

@cheeseisthebest that really made me laugh - the face said it all
