The foghorn is sounding frequently and I suspect that's why I'm up enjoying the ambience of a foggy garden at 4am.

Hoping @BaconandAvocado is fast asleep and all the others with wide awake pups.

I am so fed up of my idiot DH. He tries to talk to the dog like he's human and doesn't understand why the dog doesn't do as he says. "Don't go round the other side!". Umm, that's over his head. Down, sit he gets. If he's a pain, pen him for 30 seconds. He gave him food from his plate and the yoghurt pot once he had finished his yoghurt once or twice....funnily enough he begs for it now and DH doesn't like it. Durrrr

I suspect my dh is going to be like this with our pup. He’s already talking in long sentences to him and expects him to understand argh. I put him in the crate earlier as he was being a bitey arse and needed a sleep but dh took him back out ‘cause he looked sad’ Hmm
cheeseisthebest · 13/10/2021 21:22

I might regret this but slightly feel like I've turned a corner today.
Did some brilliant training earlier, lie down and stand up. Recall has improved a lot. I know this is all very basic but I'm still pleased!
We've haven't had crazy nipping this evening cos I've worn him out with a busy day. Got home at half 7 and he totally crashed. Now lying calmly on his mat chewing his elephant.

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 13/10/2021 22:00

I've done a careful job of making pup calm around the vacuum cleaner. DH had to hoover up the contents of his gun dog dummy (destroyed...) and to ram home his feelings about this pushed the hoover right towards pup to scare him 🙄 He also uses long sentences to instruct both dogs. Terrier gets told off for walking beside him and looking for a treat. "Stop being so needy" PEOPLE TRAIN FOR HOURS TO ACHIEVE THIS BEHAVIOUR!!!!!

@cheeseisthebest that is great news

Just went in his crate and barked at me because I'd forgotten to tuck his blanket round him! Pampered much!!

GuyFawkesDay · 14/10/2021 06:57

Awww @cheeseisthebest that's lovely.

I'm feeling very much at an impasse but that's because I've been out the house 7:15-6pm 3 days this week. Dog has therefore not had any training really. Walks yes, but nothing involving him thinking. As a result he's a clingy PITA. When I shower he howls and barks in his crate. DH moans constantly FawkesPup doesn't do what he wants yetdoes it for me. Hmmmm. Wonder why! 🙄🤦‍♀️

Anyhow, I have an easier day tomorrow and will be home well before 4pm which means I can get a longer exercise and training session in the park after school. Focus this weekend: lie down and stay. They're the two he's absolutely crap at (well, it's pretty much non existent). I can get flop on side from sit for a treat as a lay down and about a 5 second stay, max.

Still can't get puppy classes on a time to suit me either. At this rate I might end up having to not bother.

Aw bless him this is lovely!
Aria20 · 14/10/2021 07:46

Oh dear @MakeMeCleanTheHouse I hope pup isn't scared of the hoover now. Mines not phased by the hoover as it's on every day lol she stays laying where she is as it comes towards her and eventually sighs and moves out of the way!

cheeseisthebest · 14/10/2021 09:26

Mine is terrified of the hoover and bin bags! Really working on liedown here too. Using spare crate mat and lots of encouragement for that to be the place he goes to be calm. 20 weeks old today and it's starting to feel easier.

cheeseisthebest · 14/10/2021 09:26

Guyfawkes what long days, you must be exhausted!

GuyFawkesDay · 14/10/2021 10:13

3hrs of it is driving the minibus too 😩

Newboy Weight Update......
I think he was 12 weeks when he weighed a mere 5kg.
4 weeks later he's over 8kg!! Getting quite a lump to carry.

Really pleased he's more on track now 😊

BaconAndAvocado · 14/10/2021 15:13

🙄 Sorry, 3 weeks later! He'll be 15 weeks on Saturday.

GuyFawkesDay · 14/10/2021 15:50

Good news he's on track.
Mine has dug under the wire mesh in the back garden I put up to keep him off my hydrangea.

BaconAndAvocado · 14/10/2021 16:48

They do love a good dig!

I'm going to show Newboy some YouTube videos of fireworks displays before 5/11.
Hopefully make him less scared when they start happening for real.

MsAwesomeDragon · 14/10/2021 18:21

@GuyFawkesDay those are really looking days. I hope you've got some easier days coming up.

@BaconAndAvocado that's great that he's putting weight on nicely.

I think I need to take pup back to the vet, again. After 4 days vomit free he's thrown up 3 times this afternoon. All of his lunch came back up, and DD says she thinks it must be part of his breakfast as well there was so much of it. Back to rice and chicken for every meal until we can get to the bottom of what's causing it.

GuyFawkesDay · 14/10/2021 18:30

Oh no @MsAwesomeDragon poor pup! Sounds like a possible food allergy or is it a bug that's lingering?

Apparently FawkesPup has been very good today so that's much better. Yesterday he was totally batty

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 14/10/2021 18:30

@MsAwesomeDragon that's not good. Hope the vet can get to the bottom of it. Are you insured?

OP posts:
MsAwesomeDragon · 14/10/2021 18:47

Yes we're insured, thank God. It could be an allergy, but we hadn't changed anything when it started. We assumed he'd just eaten something weird while out on a walk, but this is going on too long for that to be all it is. The vet said the next step would be a blood test, not sure what that's checking for but it's going to result in a very stressed puppy. If it helps him get better it'll be worth it though. I've got my fingers crossed for a food allergy that we can sort out with a change in food.

BaconAndAvocado · 14/10/2021 19:07

MsAwesomeDragon how is your pup now?

cheeseisthebest · 14/10/2021 20:47

Oh no Mrs A. Hope you can get to the bottom of it soon.
My pup has stopped nicely napping in the mornings when I'm working and instead constantly barks for my attention. Need to fit in an early morning walk I think.

GuyFawkesDay · 14/10/2021 21:06

This is our concession to early morning walks. FawkesPup is now on 10 minute potters at 7am and 7pm and a good 20 minutes during day. The evening one definitely helps him settle and the morning one followed by food = morning snoozes whilst DH walks DD to school.

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 14/10/2021 21:16

I take pup out at 6.30-6.45am for 30 mins and this helps the morning WAH situation. He then gets an evening walk of about 30-40 mins. On days off we often sneak another in. Breaking all rules 🤐
