The foghorn is sounding frequently and I suspect that's why I'm up enjoying the ambience of a foggy garden at 4am.

Hoping @BaconandAvocado is fast asleep and all the others with wide awake pups.

567and
I'm constantly surprised at how many eateries are dog/friendly.
Looking forward to going to a pub soon with Newboy and the family.

I'll be armed with a fair few treats no doubt 😂

Yesterday we had a wonderful walk in the fields and even an impromptu swim for a few minutes (the puppy did the swimming, not me!). This morning he was a bit of a nightmare again, nipping and generally being rather wild. I wonder whether it had to do with a change in routine today? Usually I am the one to take him out first thing in the morning, feed him, etc. But today DH was up early so he did that instead. Maybe that was slightly unsettling for the pup.

Very much hoping to get him into daycare soon, I think it would be so good for him in terms of socialisation with other dogs.

MrsHerculePoirot · 08/10/2021 17:19

@tizwozliz @Aria20 we ended up with about 5-6 teeth and DS put them in a pot with a sealed lid for the tooth fairy who swapped them for some doggy treats 🤣

Cathster · 08/10/2021 17:20

@ashmts pup is 10 weeks old tomorrow so still tiny I know!

Thanks all for the advice, we are going to have one more night with DH downstairs and then set alarms from tomorrow night. We’ve also removed the pup pad from the cage although the way she’s just peed on the dining room floor about 4 times today (after being let outside) doesn’t give me much hope!!

@MightyMeerkat I like the bell idea, might have to look into that!

It is nice to read about the older pups and see that they do get easier eventually Grin at the moment she is absolutely exhausting, but we are working hard on the training and just looking forward to being able to get her out the house and garden soon!

tizwozliz · 08/10/2021 17:29

Last day at home before going back to work next week so we went to a retriever specific play session which I thought pup would love. Several labs there a similar age and Ada was desperate to play whilst we were waiting outside but then didn't play with any other pups once we got into the field. She went round pretty much every person to get belly rubs however. Did her best impression of a pup that never gets any human attention!

LadyCatStark · 08/10/2021 17:50
@LadyCatStark - how's pup getting on with his raised bed now? Ada loves her, if she destroys her inside bed this will come indoors, supposedly chew proof
@tizwozliz he’s not a fan! But he’s not scared of it anymore 😂 he’d much rather lie on the sofa but DH says no.

BaconAndAvocado · 08/10/2021 18:52

Cathster it definitely gets easier.
Hang in there.

GuyFawkesDay · 08/10/2021 19:06

FawkesPup loves the beef tails but just watch when they get down to the bone as he swallowed some chunks the other night and it made him puke.

He's got some beef skin chew tonight from the dog store near us, and absolutely loves it and it's taking him AGES to get anywhere with it. I will buy more! is trying a new flavour of the Eden too now he's old enough I can shift him. We have had 5 teeth out and replaced by adult ones already this week. No wonder poor lad has been bitey as hell. Must be agony.

The ball dispensing thing is here (see pic!) he loves it but currently it going for the "whack it and it'll still dispense treats" method 🤣🤣🤣

Glad the naughty grape eater is fine too. What a worry.

MightyMeerkat · 08/10/2021 19:30

Love the ball dispensing toy. Tempted to get one too but I'm supposed to be cutting down on puppy spending too!

We went for a walk in a different park tonight and met a groups of people with dogs. I let pup off and she had a fantastic time running around with them - until a slightly bigger spaniel turned up and started nipping her ears!

Got home tonight and, with the heating coming on, thought it smelt very doggy! How does everyone stop theirs house smelling of dog? I hoover and mop loads but the smell comes back almost immediately! I can't wash the dog bed too often as it just doesn't dry very quickly.

sandwiches77 · 08/10/2021 19:31

Will try beef skin chew next, spent way too much money on sandwichpup recently

BaconAndAvocado · 08/10/2021 19:41

GuyFawkesDay that looks fab!
How does it work?

GuyFawkesDay · 08/10/2021 19:51

It's really basic, ball in top triggers treat release.or in FawkesPup's case: smack it loads, treats come out 🙄 it's a great freebie but not sure it's worth the £.

Beef skin chew has so far occupied A WHOLE HOUR. I am amazed. I have wine on the sofa and it's glorious.

Smell wise can I recommend again the Sand & Paws candles in TK Maxx. Amazing and smell really subtle and not that over chemically smell of plug ins etc. I mop with lemon flash and add a couple of drops of lemon and peppermint oils into the bag of my vac on a cotton wool pad. Makes the house smell lovely. Oh and wash the dog fleeces and soft toys cos they really stink!!!

MsAwesomeDragon · 08/10/2021 19:57

I fancy one of those ball treat machines. Would a non tennis ball of a similar size work do you think? AwesomePup skins tennis balls so we've had to stop using them in case he eats all the fluff. He's allowed tough rubber balls, or squeaky balls, but not tennis balls. He prefers plastic bottles tbh.

GuyFawkesDay · 08/10/2021 21:50

So far the light up ball and mini balls work so I reckon so!!

Aria20 · 08/10/2021 22:02

@GuyFawkesDay he looks like hes had a big growth spurt suddenly looks like a dog now!!! @tizwozliz same for Ada... all the little pups are getting big!

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 08/10/2021 22:14

I've had a lovely evening Makemeboy. We had cocktails and dinner out. Needed this at the end of a tricky week

GuyFawkesDay · 08/10/2021 22:37

He absolutely has @Aria20 he's getting so big but is it bad I prefer him like this? We are going out without holding the long line and he's settling much better in the house

tizwozliz · 08/10/2021 23:46

I need to weigh her but suspect she's now three times as heavy as when she came home to us at 8 weeks!

TheBigMacDougal · 09/10/2021 08:09

@GuyFawkesDay I know what you mean about preferring them. I didn’t want a puppy, I wanted a dog so the puppy bit is just a necessary evil to get the dog. I felt the same way about the kids and didn’t like the baby stage 🤷🏼‍♀️

I went out last night for the first time since we got him. Pretty sure I’m still drunk after 6 hours sleep and way too much wine 🥴 looking forward to a dog walk to wake me up in a bit!

MightyMeerkat · 09/10/2021 08:16

@GuyFawkesDay He really does look grown up. Such a sweet face.

Thank you for the tips re the smell. I'll try one of the candles and definitely stick the soft toys in the washer.

Pup was up and wide awake at 6am again this morning. I could almost set my watch by her!

GuyFawkesDay · 09/10/2021 08:16

Same here! Stressful week + a bottle of wine and rellies staying = not enough sleep and a hangover 🥴 though FawkesPup did grace us with a 7am sleep in.

MrsHerculePoirot · 09/10/2021 08:21

@MsAwesomeDragon I think tennis balls aren't great for dogs teeth I’ve read. Something to do with how abrasive the outer covering is and therefore damaging to their teeth if they chew them? So probably for the best!

PoirotPup definitely hitting the teens - much needier, but more mouthy when playing again, more interested/obsessed with food, needs more exercise/stimulation and has started to bark occasionally (at doorbell or his reflection) and you can see he doesn’t sometimes know what to do with himself with this sort of agitated energy.

Some of it is easier to deal with than others but it could be a looooong few months!

tizwozliz · 09/10/2021 08:34

I'd happily have 12 week pup back, much cuter and couldn't reach the worktops!

GuyFawkesDay · 09/10/2021 09:03

We have Kong tennis balls I think they're made different? And they squeak!

tizwozliz · 09/10/2021 09:09

I thought this was quite a balanced article
