The foghorn is sounding frequently and I suspect that's why I'm up enjoying the ambience of a foggy garden at 4am.

Hoping @BaconandAvocado is fast asleep and all the others with wide awake pups.

And here. I am consistent but out the house 7-4. DH does things differently so....yeah!

MsAwesomeDragon · 06/10/2021 22:04

I'm consistent, but sometimes DH is in charge and he does things differently from me, and other times dd1 is in charge and I think he gets away with quite a lot when he's with her (she's better at enforcing naps though, often on her feet to keep them warm lol). He definitely thinks of himself as mine though, so he behaves much better when he's with me than with anyone else.

cheeseisthebest · 06/10/2021 22:21

Went out for a lovely work lunch today (been working at home since March last year and miss everyone) cheesepup was good as gold but got very upset when I went to the toilet. Definitely my dog!

MightyMeerkat · 07/10/2021 06:58

Thank you for the tip about the ostrich bone - pup loves it and I get 20 mins of peace for a cup of tea!

Training is hit and miss here too. Sit, down and paw are good but everything else needs work. My fault for not making more time to train pup. We start puppy class on Saturday though so I'm hoping that will help. Loose lead walking is challenging too.

Pup has a new thing also that when I let her out at 11pm for a last wee, she refuses to come in! I had to lure her in with treats last night. I can only assume it's because she knows it's bed time and she will have to go in her pen. Really frustrating when I just want to go to bed! 🙁 I'm wondering too whether it's because pup sleeps on a sofa at doggy daycare - she loves going into the lounge and settles down on the sofa with me whilst I watch TV. Much comfier than her pen I'm sure!

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 07/10/2021 07:49

We had a nightime issue as soon as he was allowed on the sofa. He woke in the night and just wanted to go on the sofa. Persuaded (herded) back into his crate only to whine 10 mins later. Repeat. They are very decisive once they realise new delights are possible. I'd do the whole 🥳🤩🤪 yeah puppy 🥳🤩🤪 and high value treats (cheese chicken, ball whatever floats their boat) as a reward for coming in then 5 mins play to dissociate coming in with "boring bad thing"

Or put him on an extendable lead

My husband has never trained (his) terrier with commands. He talks to her 🙄 "how many times do I have to tell you we don't do that" etc and I am so frustrated because dogs prefer one consistent simple word....but over the years it's entered her brain so you only have to say "we're going this way" for her to stop in her tracks and follow.

She walks alongside and stares at him and he tells her off because he regards it as begging or attention seeking...we are not on the same page with dogs AT ALL

Mac ate a grape! Stole it from DDs plate. Worse: I didn’t realise until 7hrs later how terrible they can be… 17hrs on and I’m watching him like a hawk to see if there are any signs of an issue… he is absolutely fine and eating his chew and being playful.

BaconAndAvocado · 07/10/2021 08:34

MightyMeerkat an ostrich bone is the gift that keeps on giving.
Newboy is still enjoying it almost a week later and it doesn't smell.

I will probably get another one for him for Christmas 😂

cheeseisthebest · 07/10/2021 08:40

My husband with his ridiculously strong sense of smell says the ostrich bone dies smell! It really doesn't!!

tizwozliz · 07/10/2021 08:46

As with pretty much all chews/longer lasting treats the ostrich bone is now largely ignored after its initial outing!

Need to start going to the pet shop a bit further away where you can buy single items. I've ended up with lots of half opened packets

tizwozliz · 07/10/2021 08:49

@cheeseisthebest - sorry have to agree with your husband, the ostrich bones do have a slight smell, although I don't think it's super offensive like some chews are

MrsHerculePoirot · 07/10/2021 08:53

@tizwozliz we found that PoirotPupost interest often in chews but after not having them for ages if we give him something again he’ll be excited again so we tend to rotate a bit. They all last ages so I just spent £££ in one go but then haven’t bought anything for months! So keep them and they’ll probably be ok again soon!

MrsHerculePoirot · 07/10/2021 08:55

@MightyMeerkat in the end we just let pup have freedom downstairs and just put a gate/pen around tv where wires etc are. Everything else we were happy he wouldn’t touch or were safely away. He then sleeps on the sofa/his bed/floor/armchair but does sleep very well…. We just cover the sofa and chair with blankets/throws to protect them.

I have no sense of smell at all so maybe it does!

I think that is what we will do in the future. Few months time. I think he would be quite happy and fine.

tizwozliz · 07/10/2021 09:08

@MrsHerculePoirot - yes I'm sure her interest will reappear at some point but I now have an ostrich bone, and open packets of lamb braids, beef tails and fish skin twists but no chews that will give me 10 mins peace!

tizwozliz · 07/10/2021 09:11

I'm hoping the drooling is a temporary teething thing. She sat and watched me eat toast and created a puddle!

MightyMeerkat · 07/10/2021 09:20

I can't smell the ostrich bone either but it does make a mess on the floor. I've been letting pup have it for an hour and then when she loses interest I put it away. I've noticed that she loses interest when she has everything out, such as pigs ears and lamb braids. Her favourite are the twisted beef sticks but they stink and give her evil smelling wind 🤢

Pup is 17 weeks tomorrow. No accidents in the house since last weekend but I don't quite trust her yet! Once I do, I'll let her roam and sleep on the sofa if she wishes. In the meantime, some play and treats to lure her back in is a good idea.

Just saw this. Have you contacted your vet for advice? It might be totally fine but I'd want expert opinion on that, they might want to see him
Aria20 · 07/10/2021 12:10

@TheBigMacDougal not all dogs have issues with grapes and raisins, my cousins sprocker regularly ate grapes and he has always been fine - she had no idea they could be toxic until I told her and by then he was nearly 2 so had had many over this time.

I would probably panic and call vets if mine ate a grape or raisin but seeing as yours is 17+ hours and been fine, he's probably going to be fine but obviously try and avoid in future. Mine stole half a choc chip brioche off my daughters plate she'd left unattended and he was fine - there was only about 5 tiny choc chips left in it as my daughter picks them out and eats them first thank god!

Aria20 · 07/10/2021 12:14

I had to wait in for a parcel this morning so we didn't get our usual morning walk in the field with dog pals... I was expecting to get no work done today but I did half hour of training instead and she's out for the count still lol. Obviously helps that it's just me here though so the house is quiet, I'm not sure she'd have slept like this if kids were around.... I'm now waiting for her to wake up so we can go for a walk!

TheBigMacDougal · 07/10/2021 16:01

@ashmts because of the time that had elapsed the vet said keep a close eye and feed pasta with meals the next day or two to help everything flush through. 24hrs post sniffling it he is still fine so fingers crossed nothing changes 🤞

ashmts · 07/10/2021 16:12

@TheBigMacDougal Ah that's great, it wasn't clear from your post if you'd consulted the vet or not and I'd hate for someone to leave it too late if there was some sort of treatment that could be advised. Glad to hear he's doing fine though, hope he enjoys his pasta Grin

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 07/10/2021 17:53

Ostrich bone does smell. A bit like dried chicken skin? I've had a 2.5hr video session and was working really hard to keep pup quiet 😦 my small study was stinking of ostrich bone, blood on carpet (teeth I assume) and I was stressed by the end but we made it.

Oh my god this puppy is going to be lucky to make his first birthday at this rate.

Today he rolled in fox shit at 6:45am, necessitating ketchup and a cold hosepipe bath on one shoulder.

During the day he's dug a big hole in one flower bed. I don't mind that so much but I do mind the fact he then zoomie jumped over every piece of furniture in the living room putting muddy pawprints on the lot. So now I've had to strip the sofa cushions and wash them all. Thank God for IKEA and their washable sofa covers.

Add to this the fact he barfed up the chunks of beef tail bone he swallowed on the bathroom floor last night and he's now my favourite puppy right now 😩😠😆
