I'm in my second year of a marketing degree and am really struggling to think of a pet product that would be useful that doesn't already exist, any suggestions of what dog owners would like to be available would be greatly appreciated Wink

@bigbaggyeyes

A bark translating collar like Doug had in 'UP'
This would be so cool
wetotter · 20/09/2021 22:37

@Boiledcabbages

What about something for muddy dog Paws in the winter?
I think it already exists, if you mean something like this??

If you are in the UK we don't seem to have dog back packs here yet. Dd imported one from America, gets asked all the time where it's from. Will find a picture of her dog in it. I'm in need of a car harness/transport system that doesn't cost £300+ and has fab safety report. I run a dog park so pretty invested.
I'd definitely like a dog backpack! I'm sure I've seen a local dog with panniers... Will be good for mine to carry his own (empty) poobags and other sundries when he's older!
sparklystarshinebright · 20/09/2021 23:03

A safer way to travel with pooch in the car. There are seatbelts and soft dog boxes available but they aren't very safe if you have to slam your brakes on. Maybe a more sturdy padded metal cage that the seat belt passes through. You can buy crash tested cages but they are so expensive and big, not ideal and take up lots of room.
Also second the used poo bags container. I have a dickie bag which are great but they are expensive

SourMilkGhyll · 20/09/2021 23:16

I want to find an indestructible soft washable dog bed that you can't feel the floor through when you lie on it.
I tell you, it doesn't exist.

Fairing that, a double dog seat belt for two dogs who fit on 1 seat in the car. I need to fit 2 dogs and 2 teenagers on the back seat.

Failing that, a tracker like tractive, but with a battery that lasts longer than one day.

SourMilkGhyll · 20/09/2021 23:16

Oh, and my dogs want an indestructible soft toy that squeeks and rustles.

JaffacakeJanine · 20/09/2021 23:23

Some noise cancellation headphones / head wrap/ device for my tiny dog, nothing fits him and sometimes I have to take him on a noisy train with me 😭

JaffacakeJanine · 20/09/2021 23:24

Also seconding a tracking device that isn't massive

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 21/09/2021 00:17

eyeslikebutterflies, could something a bit like a travel changing mat work for your first one?

PollyRoullson · 21/09/2021 08:30

@Sexnotgender

I want something to freeze/solidify my idiot dogs runny poop so I can try and scoop it off the pavement in one go!
spray to solidify poo

@eyeslikebutterflies

I'd really like a little travel bed or blanket I can roll up and stick in my bag, then whip out for my dog to lie on when we're in cafes, pubs, outdoor places - she comes everywhere with me and a little bed would help her settle (but I can't take her actual bed, and the sports towel I currently use is a bit rubbish). Something that's waterproof on the underside, rolls up with a fastener, and is light and washable. Can you see I've been thinking about this for a while?!!! Tbf I haven't actually searched properly for one... maybe it exists....

@FastFood's point is right (I work in product branding). I always start with consumer insight or trend reports (you can get loads free online, try Harvard Review or YouGov research) to see what consumers are doing or feeling, and then try and identify a brand that would fit their needs.

As an example: we know that lockdown let to the lockdown puppy, and that zillions of people in the UK got dogs to pass the time. And those same people are now going back to the office and their little doggies are not well trained, don't like being alone, and are becoming pests. There's a consumer need: what product would help these dog owners?

Good luck, try not to feel overwhelmed, you can do it xx

rollup dog bed waterproof ones available too

I’m not a Marketing expert but I have done some
My advice would be to find a problem and work from there rather than a product

Etonmessisyum · 21/09/2021 10:47

Indestructible toys/beds

As for runny poo if you’re feeding your dog the right food their poo should be firm and easy to pick up. Soft/massive/smelly poo isn’t want you want. Mind you my retrievers are big but not smelly or soft

RunningFromInsanity · 21/09/2021 10:53

I saw a concept, but not an actual product of an extendable dog lead, and the big plastic handle had a ‘bowl’ shape in it, and inside was a tube you could fill with water to make it also a portable dog bowl.
Thought that was a good idea.

Plus add a pocket for poo bags/treats and it’s the ultimate dog lead!

SarahBellam · 21/09/2021 11:04

For dog walking in muddy fields/going into water I would like a light towel that's easily folded and dries quickly. I'm a huge fan of the cotton Turkish towels which are light, absorbent, and thin (and pretty) so there could be Dog Hammam towels and there's huge scope for patterns and sizes.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 21/09/2021 12:53

A truly delicious gravy, preferably coming as cubes like Oxo, that I can dissolve in warm water and pour over the food of Princess Picky. Different flavours, please, as madam gets bored.

God, she is a PITA to feed... I've never had a dog like it before.

eyeslikebutterflies · 21/09/2021 13:42

Thanks everyone for advice on roll up mats - some brilliant ideas. My dog will be happy Smile

You can get backpacks in the UK from a few canine outdoor sports stores.

Dog bags/backpacks.

heidiwine · 21/09/2021 14:37

I want an app on my phone that will help me detect my dogs crap in a pile of autumn leaves - something like an infra red sensor… there probably is one but I’ve never checked…

heidiwine · 21/09/2021 14:42

Also… now I’m thinking…
I would really love to have a device / tracker sort of thing that connects to my phone and alerts me when my dog is over active/noisy when I’m out. It would give me peace of mind that he’s not stressed and if he was I could get someone to nip in and let him out briefly…
Separation anxiety fir new dog owners is a massive thing right now. So many lockdown puppies will end up being rehomed because of it so if you could do any sort of separation anxiety easing app/product that’s be good…

Lobelian · 21/09/2021 14:44

One of my most dreaded and therefore not-performed-often-enough tasks is nail clipping - the options seem to be a scary pair of guillotine clippers, or a tiny buzzy sander, neither of which my dogs like. The stupid thing is, it really shouldn't hurt unless you cut too near the quick, but obviously most dogs hate it.

If someone could invent a foolproof, quiet, painless, simple nail clipping system, I would happily spend far too much money on it.

Wegobshite · 21/09/2021 14:48

@heidiwine

Have you thought about getting a pet motion camera for the area that your dog is in
They are loads of pet cameras - even ordinary indoor motion are cheap on Amazon and you can speak to your dog through the camera
You can pick one up for under £50
It will have an app that you put on your phone so you can watch him 😂
Same thing as a ring doorbell

cjpark · 21/09/2021 18:16

I want an all in one poop unit. something that houses poo bags, squirts cleaning liquid and contains the full bag until I get home.
