I'm in my second year of a marketing degree and am really struggling to think of a pet product that would be useful that doesn't already exist, any suggestions of what dog owners would like to be available would be greatly appreciated Wink

I'd like more ways of ordering from a cafe when you have your dog with you. Maybe cafes could have a couple of dog tables with a way of ordering with an ap or buzzer system. Would make life so mud easier and make it an option for me to eat out with just the dog

stayathomegardener · 20/09/2021 21:03

Box recipe treat kits

HarrietSchulenberg · 20/09/2021 21:04

An automatic dog washing machine.

Carryonmarion · 20/09/2021 21:05

A nice comfy, secure type of stay and play dog minding thing like ikea do for children so their parents can shop but at national trust type places with stately homes and indoor attractions so that I can walk the dog in the grounds but can also leave the dog for20 mins go and have a peek inside. I’ve actually thought of starting a business doing that

Smorethanthis · 20/09/2021 21:09

Loads of these things i have wanted ... so if you are a 'dragons den' type can you please
A) develop the fold up pub/cafe dog rug thing. Waterproof please with cold/heat insulating properties.
B) introduce dog creches at attractions so we can all go in together.

bigbaggyeyes · 20/09/2021 21:13

@Sexnotgender that's a good idea. A spray the freezes poo making it easier to pick up Grin I don't mind pooper scooping the garden in the winter as the poo freezes overnight

EveMerc75 · 20/09/2021 21:14

Some fantastic ideas and advice here folks, I can't thank you all enough, I've been sat in despair for hours trying to think of a pet product, your help is very much appreciated x

A bark translating collar like Doug had in 'UP'

@eyeslikebutterflies

I'd really like a little travel bed or blanket I can roll up and stick in my bag, then whip out for my dog to lie on when we're in cafes, pubs, outdoor places - she comes everywhere with me and a little bed would help her settle (but I can't take her actual bed, and the sports towel I currently use is a bit rubbish). Something that's waterproof on the underside, rolls up with a fastener, and is light and washable. Can you see I've been thinking about this for a while?!!! Tbf I haven't actually searched properly for one... maybe it exists....

@FastFood's point is right (I work in product branding). I always start with consumer insight or trend reports (you can get loads free online, try Harvard Review or YouGov research) to see what consumers are doing or feeling, and then try and identify a brand that would fit their needs.

As an example: we know that lockdown let to the lockdown puppy, and that zillions of people in the UK got dogs to pass the time. And those same people are now going back to the office and their little doggies are not well trained, don't like being alone, and are becoming pests. There's a consumer need: what product would help these dog owners?

Good luck, try not to feel overwhelmed, you can do it xx

I've seen a little travel bed like this on the train (with a dog and owner of course). The dog looked very happy with it.

I find it difficult to bend so I would like a collapsible poop scooper. I have to carry treats, spare lead, phone keys poobags and a toy . It is a lot to carry. Add a poop scoop with a handle and I am too laden.

If there was one that folded up and collapsed down at a press of a button it would be great.

currahee · 20/09/2021 21:17

@EcoCustard

I would like someone to invent some sort of ear muff or earplug for my spaniel’s to prevent grass seeds from going in the ear canal. They cost a bloody fortune and distress to have removed as one needs sedation each time. Colton wool doesn’t work and he finds them everywhere in summer.
Dog snoods for spaniels are a thing - link
Happenchance · 20/09/2021 21:32

Not sure if these already exist anywhere (please let me know if they do): Dog friendlier squeezy cheese (e.g. lactose free) and hot dogs (e.g. garlic and onion free).
Refillable squeezy cheese tubes, to reduce the amount of waste that I produce.

HummingBeeBox · 20/09/2021 21:36

@Happenchance we use latex cosmetic tubes from Amazon

Indoctro · 20/09/2021 21:37

Some type of easily carried air tight container to carry dog poop in while walking, I hate holding a bag of poo for miles till I find a bin and it stinks

InTheNightWeWillWish · 20/09/2021 21:38

The treat bag that doesn’t smell to human noses but does to dog noses. I still want my dog to know I have loads of stinky treats on me and to be good but I don’t want to smell them. And if I accidentally leave the treat bag in the car on a hot day, I’d like for my car not to smell of dead animals.

If you can put the non-smelly but still smelly to dogs treat bag into a bag where I can also store the rest of the dog crap and my crap (separately so I don’t get tennis ball drool on my purse), that would be great. Given this would be a treat/tennis ball bag it would probably need to be a messenger style bag rather than a backpack as you want access without always taking your backpack off. The bag should ideally include space for two water bottles (one for me and one for dog). In a perfect world the strap wouldn’t dig into my shoulder either and appeal to me and DH.

Wolfiefan · 20/09/2021 21:43

@Indoctro you want a dicky bag!
I have yet to find the perfect dog walking bag. Must incorporate poo bag holder and space for used bags. Handy treat dispenser. Waterproof pocket for phone etc. Comfy to carry and big enough for water bowl and water.

BertieBotts · 20/09/2021 21:52

If it's a marketing degree rather than product design or research, then I'd imagine that it doesn't much matter whether the product is realistic so could you think of something magical like the poo freezer somebody said or a maybe a robot that takes your dog for walks so you don't have to, or a lead and umbrella combo?

Or if that's not your thing then I'd actually go with the "faster horse" theory and take a product which already exist and make it better but don't worry too much about whether it's realistic or cost effective to produce that product. Just sell the idea!

It will be about how you present this product and not so much what the product is.

I don't know about squeeze tubes as such but you can get refillable pouches for baby food now, they might work for this?

Squeaky ball that doesnt break immediately. My collie cross destroys even the most expensive within minutes

Sarahlou63 · 20/09/2021 22:18

A mini electric or battery powered fur clipper for feet (and ears?) to deal with the aforementioned grass seeds.

I'd buy it.

ArcticLemming · 20/09/2021 22:24

Thermal imaging goggles so I can find and pick up my dog’s freshly done poo in long grass

HalzTangz · 20/09/2021 22:26

I want an anti sickness tablet that actually works.

My poor collie suffers terrible with travel sickness, and no pill we have tried so far has even mildly alleviated her symptoms.

feliciabirthgiver · 20/09/2021 22:31

Ride the subscription wave with pet subscription boxes, each month you get a pack of treats, poop bags, flea/worming treatment and a new toy?

Have you tried googling 'ear snood for dogs' ?

Friend with a cockerpoo swears by them - no ear related grass seed trips to vet since she got one
