Omg I never start ongoing threads like this!
Back to school for my lot tomorrow. Taken pup for an evening walk tonight, desperately trying to tire him out! He's struggled to nap today as felt too hot.

That photo is lovely. Looks just the reason I have a dog...country walks

LadyCatStark · 17/09/2021 17:09

@MakeMeCleanTheHouse me too, this was our walk last night, it was so peaceful with the light just starting to fade and nothing but me, the dog and all sorts of animal sounds in the distance 😊.

I thought we only had access to 2 fields from my house as were cut off by the river but on our lunch time walk I discovered a bridge so we went to investigate. Billy wasn’t so sure about the bride so walked over it between my legs 😂 but once over we could access as many fields as we could ever want, all the way into the main village 🥰.

I have to post some of the good stuff too to remind myself after another night of broken sleep! Really wasn't prepared for 2+ months of it

GuyFawkesDay · 17/09/2021 17:35

We had a gorgeous sunlit golden hour walk last night too. It was so lovely being out with FawkesPup.

Even if he has started waking for a 5am poo and not going back to sleep again 😩

2 months? Nooooooooo! 😱
tizwozliz · 17/09/2021 18:16

We're not getting up for toilet trips anymore but she still wants reassurance in the night. It's quite frustrating, e.g. last night she woke up at 2.30 whining, partner went to the toilet (she doesn't see anyone but the noise of him moving about is enough) and she went back to sleep, at 3.30 she woke up again and I told her to go back to sleep over the video camera which she did, 4 am whining again so I went and slept by her crate and she slept for a further 3 hours. We've tried white noise, puppy music, BBC world service, crate open/crate closed. She doesn't even really need any settling, if you come down she sees your face and turns over and goes back to sleep. We've had spells where she's gone 11-6 ish but it's gone backwards again and i really need 8 hours uninterrupted sleep!

Wolfcub · 17/09/2021 18:16

Totally out of the blue but what are we all thinking re Christmas trees this year? It sort of feels like chaos waiting to happen to me. Dpup has just been running round a bar howling with a chair on his back (ffs!) so I'm not sure a tree will survive

tizwozliz · 17/09/2021 18:20

I normally have lots (4 last year) but I think we'll have to settle for just a small one in the lounge this year. Pup only goes in the lounge under supervision when she's already ready for a snooze so think it will be safe

BaconAndAvocado · 17/09/2021 18:21

tizwozliz I haven't properly tried sleeping upstairs yet but I can well imagine Newboy would be the same as your pup.

A few friends have said that I'm making a rod for my own back sleeping downstairs....we'll find out soon 😂

Aria20 · 17/09/2021 18:22

My daughter doesn't go pre school on Fridays so pup didn't get her usual morning walk but we all had a really good game of fetch/drop. DD pretended to be a dog too and I throwing a soft toy one way for her and another the opposite way for pup and they were running and fetching and racing back to me dropping them waiting for the next lol. This went on for a good 5 /10 mins and then pup lay down and fell asleep haha

GuyFawkesDay · 17/09/2021 18:35

Oh god Christmas tree, I hadn't even thought of that 🙈😱

I might fence mine in with a pen 🤣

MrsHerculePoirot · 17/09/2021 18:35

@BaconAndAvocado we slept downstairs for 8 weeks and then moved up full time. We have t had a problem since and definitely haven’t made a rod for our backs. He has slept alone downstairs now for three months with not a single problem.

We have a lab and got harness when we got him at 8 weeks. His girth was about 43 cm and they recommended this initially: www.dog-games-shop.co.uk/20mm-s-xs-s-perfect-fit-harness.html

Two months later his girth was 53 cm and we upgraded to small front and medium girth. We still have this version of the harness but have upgraded again so if you want these pieces I’ll happily post to you? You might just have to buys the smaller two pieces first… we’ve got jade colour I think it is.

BaconAndAvocado · 17/09/2021 19:14

MrsHerculePoirot
Thank you, that's very kind of you.

How do I Private Message you?
I've swiped right but no joy.

ashmts · 17/09/2021 19:22

@BaconAndAvocado we slept downstairs with pup for about 3 weeks and people said the same to me. A year later, we're upstairs and she's in the living room happily sleeping in her crate. Of everyone I know who got puppies last year, we're the only ones who don't have pup in their bedroom/on their bed! So don't listen to them.

@GuyFawkesDay oh my goodness, adorable! So chunky and gorgeous. They grow up so fast (it doesn't feel like it at the time though!).

We didn't have a Christmas tree last year, she was about 16 weeks old and there was just No Way. I'm 99% confident we can have one this year and she'll not bother about it, we shall see.

tizwozliz · 17/09/2021 19:39

Friday night musings - where did my little pup go? Hope everyone has survived another week and is now chilling with Wine Fingers crossed for undisturbed sleep all round

@BaconAndAvocado I’ve messaged you so hopefully you can reply.

GuyFawkesDay · 17/09/2021 20:49

I'm trying so hard to stick with the crate and hopefully how he's reliable in sleeping longer I can start the moving process

graceandgratitude · 17/09/2021 21:09

Hey everyone, I absolutely love this thread and makes me feel a bit more human/sane knowing there are so many puppy challenges! My story today is I bought our 12 week old puppy a new cosy bed - he seemed to love it - settled down. But 15 mins later decided it was a good place to wee Confused whyyyyy! Toilet training proving to be most challenging at the moment. Bless him I think he doesn't know how to tell us even tho we have tried training with a bell!

bingohandjob · 17/09/2021 21:09

I've asked on a separate post but adolescence reassurance would be really gratefully received. After a pretty progressive summer, lead walking really improving, Bingopup has hit adolescence at 8 and half months with full force. Selective hearing. Sat down on his bum in his walk yesterday and point blank refused to budge - in fact, turned his back on me. Little sod. Have taken several steps back and reinforcing some of the basics that's he decided he can only respond to if there's some chicken in the offing.

Any advice gratefully received. Even if it's just "yep, that's teenagehood in puppy world" to keep me somewhat sane. To be fair he's about 60% lovely but the walking on lead has gone to pot and definite selective hearing Hmm

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 17/09/2021 21:10

We did 5 weeks on the sofa and are now in bed all night and haven't gone backwards. I honestly thought it would never happen and suddenly it did.

@tizwozliz your boy is so like mine

tizwozliz · 17/09/2021 21:15

@MakeMeCleanTheHouse - it's a girl :-) but I do wonder if I'd be able to pick her out of a black lab line up

GuyFawkesDay · 17/09/2021 21:35

@bingohandjob my cousin has had dogs all her life, breeds them.

Last year they had pups and kept one so he's just one. He's been a total #&+@ for a while. Selective deafness, willful, general arsehole behaviour. She shrugs, carries on with the same treatment and training (it's her son's working dog but he spends a fair bit of time with her) and just says he's going to be fine in a bit. It's just the fact his balls have dropped and he's discovered he can ignore requests.

He does also answer to Knobhead these days too 😂😂😂

Spudlet · 17/09/2021 22:06

@bingohandjob I have a friend who is a behaviourist, gundog trainer, really knows her stuff. Her dog is just around 12 months. She says she doesn’t admit to anyone that she’s a dog trainer when she’s out with him Grin

Not looking forward to it with Spudpup, I must say 😬

MrsHerculePoirot · 17/09/2021 22:32

I think PoirotPup is on his way to teenage turdness…. 7 months not quite at your level @bingohandjob but I feel on his way. Spent all afternoon reading up about it funnily enough - totally normal by the sounds!

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 17/09/2021 23:06

Goofy changed from pia to calmer quite rapidly and I'm expecting rapid reversal once his testicles spring into life

@tizwozliz apologies Tizgirlie
