Puppy went for his kennel cough vaccination today and for weighted while he was there...17.7kgs! He's only 13 weeksConfused

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 31/08/2021 18:45

What a roller coaster having a puppy is. Goofy is quite calm today. I've worked. DH has minded who no doubt thinks it's a doddle and I don't need him here when I'm working.

@MorningInspiration humans can have colitis after a nasty bowel infection. Possibly the same? One of my dogs had steroids for a short period.

Oof, I'm already panicking about sorting out the lead pulling before pup gets even stronger and Ada is only 12.8kg. That nice 5.5kg pup that @GuyFawkesDay has is looking like it would have been a more sensible option right now. I gave up trying to do any loose lead walking practice on today's walk and just let her off lead apart from the first 50m or so from the road.

MrsHerculePoirot · 31/08/2021 18:57

PoirotPup is nearly 21kg now!

Talking of sleeping in awkward positions… this is PoirotPup. Fast asleep 🤣🤣🤣

Good grief! Remind me what breed you have again?!

Spudpup was 15.5kg at his wormer weigh-in today, and I thought he was getting big…! Shock

Wolfcub · 31/08/2021 19:26

Get a dog they said, it'll be fun they said. It's certainly not bloody frugal. I haven't yet checked my new jeans which he's also had a good go at whilst trying to remove my calves.

Can I join you? I'm day 2 with Laszlo the Vis and getting a little cabin fever all ready. Pic just because. 8.5 weeks, 5 kilos

My baby is only 3.5 kilos! Still a pain though! Currently fast asleep on the fireplace!

GuyFawkesDay · 31/08/2021 19:38

Oh look at Laszlo!! Too cute!

@Wolfcub my PJs have been punctured just like that, as have the DCs t shirts etc. Pfft, ruddy dog!!

Returnoftheowl · 31/08/2021 19:54

@Spudlet we've got a Newfoundland standard poodle cross

@MorningInspiration - poor pup! Could you try some natural yoghurt to see if that helps?

@ilovesushi - Elmpup went to the local crèche for a half-day today. She is exhausted- we've barely heard a peep out of her this afternoon, except when she woke up starving.

Spudlet · 31/08/2021 20:18

@Returnoftheowl Gorgeous! My stepbrother has a lab x Newfie - she’s an absolute unit, but very sweet and loving 🥰

MorningInspiration · 31/08/2021 20:23

@Spudlet that scene of you all playing lego sounds like the perfect afternoon! Thank you for your reassurance and kind words – I did worry it would be a lab thing (he loves a stone). I can't imagine what you went through with spudpup - you have done amazingly supporting him through his recovery (and teaching him the joys of watching lego)

Thanks @cheeseisthebest for your support. If it makes you feel better my pup turned a calming corner at 14/15 weeks. We had a trainer who instigated a cuddle corner (only cuddle/play in one area) and said to stop staring/coddling him. Before that it was like a toddler after 15kg of haribos.

@GuyFawkesDay deffo hoping it is just the food and have brought some antibs so thanks for the suggestion. The puggle your pup played with sounds perfect! It was all about quality of exposure and that is a quality puggle (love saying that word)

@MightyMeerkat thank you - the guilt is real but this forum makes me feel better. @Elmrosie great idea with the natural yoghurt! Grin We do half a day daycare - he loves it too

Loving all the weigh ins. Such an array of puppy sizes – I like @tizwozliz is thinking that 5.5kg pup sounds like a dream

Laszlo is so cute! As is the floofy newfoundland-poodle Return and Periot's sleeping yoga position. Love the pup photos, makes me /almost/ want another

duvetdrama · 31/08/2021 20:36

My pup has been so barky today 😬 She's five months old, I really hope she doesn't start barking all the time, she's been really quiet up until now. Any tips on how to manage this? She's just barking at random sounds in the garden, maybe she's just feeling tired or on edge today 🤔

tizwozliz · 31/08/2021 20:47

Soo cute @blacksheep2014 , i originally wanted a vizsla or a german shorthaired pointer but for various reasons we ended up with a lab.

So after weeks of having poo bags in all my pockets I finally got to use one outside the house! I know that might seem like an odd thing to be pleased about but I'm happy that she will go outside the garden if she needs to. She waited 14 hours when we went camping the other week which put me on edge a bit! (she normally goes 4 times a day)

Very brave playing with lego in front of pup. I managed to drop a model that I'd hidden on top of the freezer, it hit the floor and scattered in all directions, yelled at the other half to grab the pup, but alas we were too slow and she did her victory parade outside with lego in her mouth. We were almost at the point of opening a tin of sardines to get her to give it up, when we managed to get her to release it!

Theluggage15 · 31/08/2021 20:56

Hi @MorningInspiration. I only seem to post on here to share trouble info! My springer has had a stone removed like Spudlet’s and also went through a period of runny poo. Sometimes normal, sometimes runny. Turned out he had picked up something called Giardia. We had to collect samples of poo on 3 separate days and then it was tested.

14 and half years with previous springer and barely a visit to the vet, 5 months old puppy and vet is on speed dial!

MorningInspiration · 31/08/2021 21:11

Aww the @Theluggage15 I feel your pain! No matter how fast or diligent he finds stuff in the garden and swoops like a hungry hawk. I think it was Gadia during the first episode as the prokolin didn’t even work. I do have an Update - we had a poo with what looked like flakes of bark in it (argh he is so sneaky even under surveillance). After the bark poo he had another slightly more formed poo. I do feel like I hit a new low today of using a poo bag and hose to examine his ‘deposits’ yuck Envy Confused

Congrats on the poo Tiz! Twas bound to happen Grin though I’d burst after 14hrs - Lordy

@Duvetdrama no idea how to control barking yet but know he’s a pain when we eat so just prep loads of distractions round then (snuffles and chews)

Also attached photo to reciprocate the fact I love seeing everyone’s photo updates (he’s staring at some boiled chicken - only way to get a photo as he likes biting phones)

Spudlet · 31/08/2021 21:33

I did have to remove some bits of Lego from the puppy, but he did get a sweetie afterwards 🤷‍♀️

Wolfcub · 31/08/2021 21:50

I made the mistake of putting hand cream on. I'm now being locked to death

Theluggage15 · 31/08/2021 21:51

Studying poo is not fun. I still keep a careful eye on it and yesterday saw 2 peanuts he must have nicked at some point and had gone straight through him. Nice!

NoCureForLove · 31/08/2021 22:04

Hi All. Very good day today with Lovepup who let me get a decent amount of work done and behaved beautifully during a loud dinner with a few extra people here. But MY GOD thd zoomies afterwards. Proper growling, snarling and launching herself at us to nip and bite in between racing round the room. Proper scary! Should we be worried?? Confused

LadyCatStark · 31/08/2021 22:09

Wish me luck guys! I’m back at work tomorrow after the summer holidays with 3 days of all day Teams calls and a puppy 🤯.

ilovesushi · 31/08/2021 22:11

Sushipup ate a bar of green and blacks milk chocolate yesterday which she somehow wrestled out of DD's backpack and gobbled in secret. I found the paper wrapper in the hall then found doggo in the back garden with the silver foil between her front paws happily munching through the final squares of chocolate and foil. I rang the out of hours vet in an absolute panic. It was all absolutely fine. The vet did a calculation based on her weight (23 kg at 6 months), breed, and weight and type of chocolate. You can find a calculator online should you ever need to! She was a little off later that day but maybe it was the worming tablet she had in the morning. Anyway big big relief.

ilovesushi · 31/08/2021 22:12

@LadyCatStark Very good luck! That will be me next week.

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 31/08/2021 22:18

@NoCureForLove when goofy has the zoomies he gets a bit bitey. It's like he's on uppers!

We have been to the beach. Met a spaniel that I thought must be 8 weeks as he was so tiddly and cute....2 weeks older than mine. Makes me realise how people expect more adult behaviour even though he's still a baby
