I miss my puppy! She's only been gone one night.... I hope once we're actually on holiday I'll be too distracted to miss her. But the house feels strange and empty without her happily trotting around. Also hope that she doesn't forget all her training!

Morning all. 10:30 - 05:55 this morning Shock. His daytime energy levels seem to have taken a big leap, but I'll take that, as it's his first day out and at puppy class today, so it should balance out.

@Aria20, that empty home feeling is visceral isn't it?

@LadyCatStark, I could not be doing with the mansplaining. If you do throw the training book at him, make sure it's a hardback Wink.

I've been working from the kitchen for the past month and SP realised really early on that I was boring when I was at the table, and settles quickly. I've only had one play fight that I had to intervene on to throw them out! Mainly I have colleagues asking to see the Pup, and my head of department' first question is always "Is the baby awake?" because she wants to see him! But I need to get into the study to properly puppy-proofed this week.

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 24/08/2021 07:03

@cheeseisthebest Makemepup has the most enormous drinks of the day from about 10pm to midnight... last night I was pondering what I could do to change that because it's surely behind why I was up at midnight 2, 4 and then up up at 6.15am...

@opalescent I have borrow my Dad's carpet shampoo machine...its very good

@MrsHerculePoirot have you got a link for that seat please

I've moved into our open plan lounge, dining, kitchen which opens straight onto the garden. Not ideal as I'm sleeping there as well. I have cabin fever. Did I mention I can't wait for his 2nd vaccination (it's going to be such a let down if it doesn't fix sleeping, working, eating and training in one little syringe) Wink Grin

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 24/08/2021 07:13

@MrsHerculePoirot car seat...don't worry.... I've just found one that covers the whole back seat

GuyFawkesDay · 24/08/2021 08:17

I'm buying a whole back seat cover too. Frankly, the kids are as bad as the dog so it'll protect it from all of em!

10:30-6am with huge poo/wee at 5am. 5!!! Actual night's sleep in my own bed! Hope it's not a one off.

Jabs day today. Freshly washed puppy as he tried to eat then rolled on cat poo in the garden. Delightful 🤢

Spudlet · 24/08/2021 08:24

Vet check day today! Spud pup has been exactly as calm as you’d expect a 15 week old working lab puppy who’s had a very boring week to be 😬 So hoping we don’t get a lecture. He clearly isn’t feeling unwell in any way shape or form, so there’s that… just can’t wait to be able to take him out again! The vet said we could do 10 minute on lead walks but when we tried he went bonkers leaping about, and we don’t have any pavements to walk on so it’s quite dusty and mucky too. So we (I) decided it was probably doing more harm than good.

tizwozliz · 24/08/2021 08:26

We have a hammock that has a zip down the middle so can be used across the whole back seat or as half seat cover half hammock.

tizwozliz · 24/08/2021 08:29

Freshly washed puppy as he tried to eat then rolled on cat poo in the garden.

The local cats have stopped using my raised beds as a toilet since we got the puppy. An unexpected bonus!

LadyCatStark · 24/08/2021 08:35

@SweetLathyrus if I had a bloody book he’d have got it thrown at him today. I was doing the breakfast training session that apparently we now must do and I asked him to “lie down” and DH pipes up with “just say down”. FFS I tried to reach “down” when he learnt it months ago and DH told me it was “lie down” 🤬.

GuyFawkesDay · 24/08/2021 08:43

Oh my god I would lose my shizzle at DH if he did that!!!

NoCureForLove · 24/08/2021 09:14

Asa variation of something which is often ssid on mn - you don't have a puppy problem you have a dh problem...Hmm

NoCureForLove · 24/08/2021 09:14

Much sympathy.

Yes I often think this to myself…
tizwozliz · 24/08/2021 10:21

Now that the nights are getting darker, Ada has spotted her reflection in the patio doors and invites it to play complete with bows and barking. At the moment we're just distracting away from the doors. Wondering whether we should invest in some window film or whether it's likely to be a short-lived thing?

GuyFawkesDay · 24/08/2021 10:28

I think the removable film is quite cheap on eBay or Amazon? The only reflection FawkesPup has reacted to was the mirror so far.

Spudlet · 24/08/2021 10:54

@tizwozliz Lol, Spudpup was telling off his reflection in the wood burner this morning, the daft eejit Grin He then treated everyone in the vets waiting room to a barking demonstration, which I’m sure everyone enjoyed very much 🙈

The vet nurse was really happy and said he only needs to wear his special vest for another couple of days, but we should probably keep him on the lead for walks for the rest of the week. But I was a bit naughty and let him off the lead in the garden when we got home Blush He was so happy about it. He’s now fast asleep in his bed ❤️

tizwozliz · 24/08/2021 11:05

I don't blame you. Tbh I'm not convinced vet nurses have seen an overexcited lab pup on the end of the lead if they think keeping them on a lead is going to keep them less active. Ada would potter about quite nicely in the garden off lead, put her on a lead if she's had no exercise already and she turns into a kangaroo

Jloco · 24/08/2021 12:06

Locopup seems to be in a defiant phase. It’s like she woke up yesterday and decided she will not do anything we ask 🙄

Still struggling with the cat too, which is causing a lot of stress and upset. All of the advice says to give the cat space away from the puppy and he has the whole of the upstairs and numerous cat trees and other things, but he won’t leave the puppy alone. He tries to get in her crate with her and pokes her through the bars when she’s asleep, the puppy tries to play with him but he sees it as an attack and it all turns nasty. He ends up getting shut out cries outside the door 😔

We had a training session last week but it was… chaotic. Not sure if to persevere or try and find something else. Feeling very stressed and overwhelmed today!

GuyFawkesDay · 24/08/2021 13:12

Anyone know what age puppies can have the wood chews? The olive/coffee wood ones that don't splinter. FawkesPup is obsessed with the wooden puppy brush and is Mr Chompy at the moment

tizwozliz · 24/08/2021 13:24

The chewroots we got said suitable for all ages including puppies. I think olive wood chews are the same although I've seen quite a few reviews of those saying they do splinter and break.

Ada is also obsessed with her grooming brush but I think it's the bristles she likes rather than the wood.

SpreadHummusNotHate · 24/08/2021 13:25

I have an olive wood one from Dragonfly products and they say from 10 weeks on their website. It was fairly popular her but not quite as popular as the skirting board unfortunately Hmm

GuyFawkesDay · 24/08/2021 14:00

Oh dear. At the moment his toy basket is being shredded. Epic zoomies and biting today, wees all on the floor today. Yesterday is a dim and distant memory!!

Wolfcub · 24/08/2021 16:29

Today Wolfpup has chewed the electric cable for the (relatively) new sofa and chewed several holes in his indestructible bed. I thought we'd grown out of this nonsense as he hasn't chewed anything important for a few weeks

GuyFawkesDay · 24/08/2021 16:32

Oh dear @Wolfcub

I am terrified of the chewing everything phase as he's already bad at 11 weeks 😱

On the upside he charmed the vet and we are on the 1cweek countdown to pavement/park walks. Lepto jab 1 week today then another fortnight wait for canalside/farmland/pond dipping!!

MsAwesomeDragon · 24/08/2021 18:12

We've been to the vet today for a kennel cough vaccine. Apparently he should have had it at 12 weeks with his second jabs, but they forgot Hmm. The vet was very complimentary about him, and although he barked at her at first he stood calmly on the table while she looked in his mouth and dropped his vaccine in his nose.

Today's new skill is stairs. He's not allowed upstairs so there's usually a stairgate on the bottom step, but today there have been workmen up in the bathroom so they needed the gate open. Pup went upstairs 4 times!!!! The first 2 times I carried him back down, but he's nearly 18kg now so it's hard carrying him down. So I got the mega treats out and tempted him down one step at a time. He now thinks he's an expert at stairs so should be allowed to accompany me whenever I go upstairs. Gate is now firmly closed again. Upstairs is nowhere near puppy proofed.
