Oh poor Spudpup - SP has a bit of a thing for stones too - fortunately, so far they have been the size of his head, but I do worry about it.

@Aria20 this was about five years ago, the woman clearly had no conception that a dog might do anything other than follow to heel - her dogs were older, she might just have forgotten - and thought the idea of a lead long enough to allow freedom, but also for control was some kind of moral failing on my part (shrug).

@Spudlet Poor spudpup I hope he's okay xx

opalescent · 16/08/2021 16:04

How do you all keep your puppies entertained during the day?
We are still in the home phase, as my puppy won't be fully vaccinated until the end of next week. We have a variety of toys which she likes. When she is ready to play we do the usual tug of war games etc.
We take her out in the garden for a run around. We have also started to go for little walks, carrying her for the most part.

Anything else you guys do to pass the time?

tizwozliz · 16/08/2021 16:14

We play a lot of find it games, so I hide treats in the garden/kitchen and get her to find them. I've also taught her the names of one of her toys so we sometimes play find it with that. Have to start off super easy but she soon got the hang of it. We've now progressed to her finding a tin with a specific scent in it. Next step is working on her marking the location rather than grabbing the tin and running off with it!

GuyFawkesDay · 16/08/2021 17:10

We practice some skills like sit/come/watchme and today some walking on the lead. Some "which hand" treat games
Some brain games involving egg boxes and treats, empty cardboard boxes and tubes.
Other than that it's pee/poo/eat/sleep/repeat.

Can't wait to get out with him!

calmplease · 16/08/2021 17:15

@GuyFawkesDay

Saw these calming beds on someone's PP and ordered one. It just arrived and fair to say, it's a hit
Can you send me a link to these beds please? Thank you
tizwozliz · 16/08/2021 17:19

Can't wait to get out with him!

It definitely makes a huge difference when you can get out and about. Of course, they still can't walk far so I combine at least half our adventures with tea and cake and people watching to make trips out and about worthwhile Grin

Drove to a country park and met up with my parents today, some nice off lead wandering. We miscalculated the distance round the lake so I had a 14 week old lab in my arms for most of the second half! Then to a pub for lunch, Ada's first indoor dining experience and she was well behaved for the most part. I'm sure she hasn't slept nearly enough today, so I'm expecting overtired shenanigans later.

SweetLathyrus · 16/08/2021 17:34

@MightyMeerkat - gourgeous - wcs?

We do eat, garden, sleep, poop, little bits of training (today has been 'leave it', and 'on your bed'), we visited a neighbour - Sweet Pup was unreasonably well behaved Wink, played tug, chase, and when all else fails, we let Sweet Dog take over! Saturday he met our postie, Sunday went for a drive, and have done other walks to just see the sights ( @tizwozliz, I find it hard enough with a small, but wiggly spaniel!).

I seem to remember that I had to work much harder at this age to occupy Sweet Dog.

MightyMeerkat · 16/08/2021 17:46

@SweetLathyrus She's a sprocker from working dogs so a bit of a live wire for all she looks very calm and sweet in the photo!

@opalescent I'm glad you asked that question. I'm exhausted and not getting anything done because I'm trying to entertain pup all day. She doesn't sleep much and likes to play with me rather than on her own. I've probably given her too many treats today to try and distract her from chewing my furniture, cables etc etc

Wolfcub · 16/08/2021 18:22

Oh no poor Spudpup

GuyFawkesDay · 16/08/2021 18:29

FawkesPup has had much fun with Amazon boxes today 🤣

He gets loads of hiccups, bless him. Mad dog.

Got him a new collar and he looks very handsome in it.

Oh poor spudpup.

Hope it all goes well

opalescent · 16/08/2021 18:34

@MightyMeerkat yes, same! It's all about trying to distract puppy from doing things that she shouldn't be!! Like chewing my rug and going at the underside of the dining chairs 😖

Spudlet · 16/08/2021 18:36

I love that new collar @GuyFawkesDay!

Thank you everyone that posted - I have heard from the vets and Spudpup is awake 🥳 They have saved the stone, I think we may mount it on a plinth in the living room. He hasn’t eaten yet as they’re waiting for him to come around a little more, but his gut apparently only looked very slightly inflamed so they didn’t need to remove any. So all being well he should be home tomorrow and I very much hope he’ll have an uneventful recovery. Poor puppy! It’s very strange without him.

GuyFawkesDay · 16/08/2021 18:51

Oh I'm glad he's ok! What a relief. Poor lad (and you!!)

What is it with the underneath of dining chairs??!!

cheeseisthebest · 16/08/2021 19:01

Oh glad he's ok!
My pup hasn't got a collar on, he has a harness when we go out with ID tag on. If yours has a collar on do they were it all the time?

cheeseisthebest · 16/08/2021 19:01

Wear

Wolfcub · 16/08/2021 19:03

Glad spudpup is ok.
Cheese yes all the time, taking it in and off was just an excuse to be bitey
Wolfpup has been a bit hard work today. Hoping he chills out again soon. On the plus side he knows what drop it means now. On the not so plus side he deliberately picks stuff up and then looks for a command and a treat

Spudlet · 16/08/2021 19:05

Spudpup wears his all the time now, initially we took it off at night but he’s used to it now. I do need to get him a bigger one soon though - I’m thinking a nice smart green one, like FawkesPup. We gingers suit green (remembering that only a ginger can call another ginger ginger Grin).

God, I can’t tell you how relieved I feel. It’s been a long afternoon. I’ll be glad when he’s home now!

Wolfcub · 16/08/2021 19:17

We gingers do suit green.

cheeseisthebest · 16/08/2021 19:23

Maybe I should put his on then.

cheeseisthebest · 16/08/2021 19:26

I did only buy it yesterday!

GuyFawkesDay · 16/08/2021 19:29

I wanted him to get used to it before he goes out in a couple of weeks too. It's quite big but I'm hoping it'll last a while and then be replaced with something more expensive when he's older. That one was £3 on eBay (it's leather too. Apparently seconds but I can't see how/where
