Looking for edible chew recommendations - we have some of the jr lamb braids which are a big hit but looking for something smaller that can be given more often.

She's 13 weeks and a lot of things aren't suitable under 4 months

Returnoftheowl · 13/08/2021 08:32

Puppy has his second lots of injections today... Can't wait to get him out and about in the near future... Hopefully he will burn off some energy!

He was a bit of a nightmare last night, biting, tugging on clothing, jumping, scratching, just would not settle. We took him out for a ride in the car, which settled him while he was in the car... As soon as we got home it was like he became hysterical and would not calm at all. We ended up going upstairs to bed at half 9, mainly so I could do first aid on all the cuts and bites on my husband (his hands, arms and legs were all bitten and bleeding by then). He'd been so good the night before (he's had to have an emergency vet trip as he hurt his tail and he was such a good boy that evening), but last night was a nightmare.

GuyFawkesDay · 13/08/2021 08:42

Whimzees puppy chews are 3 months

FawkesPup up at 4:30am for a poo. Which is fine but he won't go back to sleep after this time unless he's physically on me! Won't settle back in his crate. Have out in a worn t-shirt, nylabone and he's got his snuggle puppy still warm etc. Howls. I think I've created an association now that he gets to cuddle with me early morning because I've been doing it for a week or so just to get more sleep!!! If I take him downstairs in the dark and lie down on the sofa he curls up and sleeps next to me

LadyCatStark · 13/08/2021 08:45

@MsAwesomeDragon

AwesomePup slept all evening yesterday, then all night (I got up at 6:15 as normal), had breakfast this morning then went back to sleep. I think our day out yesterday broke the puppy!
@MsAwesomeDragon Billy is so much better behaved after a day out! Hence we’ve been having a lot of them 😂.
MrsHerculePoirot · 13/08/2021 09:02

@tizwozliz most of the JR pets ones are 12 weeks I think? They do all sorts on there. We like the lamb braids, ostrich braids, beef tails, goats ears.

We also have yaks mills chew, coffee wood bone, and an ostrich bone from JR too.

DS came into the kitchen to eat breakfast this morning, with Spudpup in his crate with the door open! This is the first time this has happened since we got Spudpup Shock

On the flip side, Spudpup got into the washing machine last night (I didn’t realise that DS had opened the door once the cycle finished) and ate holes in some of my running kit 😑 So I’ve started the morning with a darning session.

GuyFawkesDay · 13/08/2021 10:23

Oh dear, FawkesPup likes to "help" with the washing too. So far it's socks and teatowels he likes to steal and run off with to his bed.

Going hardcore today and removed the downstairs bed and put his crate in living room in the hope he might start to nap in there too.

GuyFawkesDay · 13/08/2021 10:30

@MrsHerculePoirot I think I need to have a closer look at JR Pets. They seem to have loads of good stuff

cheeseisthebest · 13/08/2021 10:40

Is that online JR pets?
Feel like the novelty has worn off a bit today and we are all tired and worn down with the constant supervision. It's also wet and horrible outside and the constant stream of visitors (who can help supervise!) Has stopped!
Did take him on a little walk this morning which went really well.

Hilseey · 13/08/2021 12:29

@cheeseisthebest

We had a wee and poo outside this evening hooray! His are, so far, fingers crossed, very solid. He is on Billy and margot, one tbsp wet mixed with a handful of dry 3 times a day.
It's so great when you get something to praise - makes you feel like you're making progress! For us, his wees are hit and miss, and his poos are all miss. I've even tried smearing a bit of faeces on his toilet (fake) grass (yuck!) but it hasn't made any difference.

He's been a bit less manically bitey today so far, thank goodness.

cheeseisthebest · 13/08/2021 12:35

He did a poo inside today and also one outside after me running around with him! I'm just trying to get him out of the house more so more opportunities!
Still can't tell when he's weed outside!

tizwozliz · 13/08/2021 12:44

Ada has ruined my plans for going out for tea and cake today by napping at all the wrong times!

Spudlet · 13/08/2021 13:17

Spudpup was a little star at puppy class again today - we did a recall at the end and he came flying over to me and snuggled right in for cuddles. I believe my heart has grown three sizes. I have almost forgiven him for eating my best running pants… almost Grin

GuyFawkesDay · 13/08/2021 13:26

@cheeseisthebest I hear you, it feels a bit relentless doesn't it? If H realises I'm not there he pines for me, so I've got 3 weeks to wean him onto DH and DS more before term starts.

TerrierOrTerror · 13/08/2021 13:38

For chews look at Dragonfly Products, they are really clear about what is good from what age. They have puppy friendly variety packs too, and we find the site really good value.

LadyCatStark · 13/08/2021 13:43

@GuyFawkesDay it all feels relentless, then one day… it just doesn’t!

Last Saturday I was in tears when walking Billy as he was pulling so hard, I was scared we’d never get him to walk nicely and he’d get too strong for me, today we’ve just come back from a walk where he did loose lead walking about 90% of the time! Last week I dispared that I’d never be able to clean my house, he’s currently lying in the middle of the kitchen floor while I clean around him (not to self, get of MN then and get cleaning!)

cheeseisthebest · 13/08/2021 13:45

Thank you will have a look.
Am so tired today and the kids really aren't into puppy sitting today either!

GuyFawkesDay · 13/08/2021 15:00

Thanks for the tip for dragonfly too. Hamish is a typical cockerdile and LOVES to chew. He's having much fun shredding cardboard, chasing empty plastic bottles and trying to eat my garden 🙄. Bought 20m of chicken wire yesterday and solid stakes and huge U pins to stop him having an accident in the garden. That foiled his fun. Bless him, he's a really sweet natured little dog, everyone yesterday commented on him and my headteacher who has dogs was surprised how calm and sweet he is. I just want to get things right for him so he's happy.

11 days to Jab 2!!!

MsAwesomeDragon · 13/08/2021 15:03

We went to the beach this morning and it was cold, wet and windy. Poor DD was crying she was so cold (we were wearing leggings and jumpers but obviously needed proper coats as well). Pup loved it!! He was chasing bits of seaweed and feathers across the sand, but recalled brilliantly even when there were interesting things going on. Then we went to a friend's house to warm up and he settled well in her living room with an ostrich braid. He's now trying to sleep but the bathroom fitters are here so he's getting disturbed a lot. He got scared when I/he went upstairs to look at something in the new bathroom, and he couldn't come down the stairs. I had to calm him down in my bedroom enough for him to let me pick him up and carry him down. He's huge!!! And heavy!! No way is he going to be allowed upstairs again any time soon.

MrsHerculePoirot · 13/08/2021 15:04

@GuyFawkesDay I’ve seen various JR products all over at pets as home and other pet shops. Their online shop thought has the most choice.

Had a nightmare with H this morning (he's nearly 18 months). I was getting B in the car and he took the opportunity to bolt out of the car and ran like the wind. His recall is usually pretty good but he just ran straight across the road, he's so fast it took me about 5 minutes to finally catch him and only cos he stopped for a wee. I promptly burst into tears. I can't believe he didn't get into/cause an accident.

Elphame · 13/08/2021 15:39

She slept in to 7.30 this morning yay!!

Interdog relations is still fraught though. Pup is desperate to play with Elfdog who really has no experience of pups and has growled at her several times so far when she bounces all over him so we've been keeping them apart.

Both are giving play bows though through the sides of the puppy pen so I'm really not sure whether to let her out. He could really hurt her though if it goes wrong.

tizwozliz · 13/08/2021 16:28

After sleeping most of the day, Ada won't stay out the wildlife pond this afternoon the little devil. She's normally pretty good at recall when she's in the flowerbeds, down the end of the garden etc. but it seems the lure of the pond is too great. She can be tempted away with a sprat but she's straight back there. I'm not looking forward to puppy class this evening

MrsHerculePoirot · 13/08/2021 16:32

@MeredithMae that sounds like a shock - I’d definitely have cried too. Hope you’re ok now x

Terrier funnily enough I've just ordered from dragonfly on recommendation from our puppy trainer. I also thought the value was excellent. Another I'd recommend is wildthought.co.uk
