Bonnie got stung by a bee today, for the second time. She screamed and cried for ages. She can't resist playing with them, hopefully she's learnt her lesson now.

lifelongfrugaleer · 12/07/2021 21:15

Ah cute octopus on crack though wolf
Ddog loves the rain this time but Hated it first time.
No teeth out yet
Lifepup decided to lick slugs tonight. Filthy mutt. Hi did the funny long toungue lick

LadyCatStark · 12/07/2021 22:32

Hope Bonnie is OK, Billy also tried to go after bees 🙈. It must be a buggy kind of day fro our pups as Billy caught a fly this morning and balled it up and ate it, or so I thought until at least 10 mins later when he came and sat on my knee (and no he doesn’t fit 😂) and spat it right in my lap 🤢.

LadyCatStark · 12/07/2021 22:32

Sorry for all the typos!

Jloco · 12/07/2021 23:45

Had a really nice day with her today but the bedtime zoomies were intense! She ended up biting me quite badly and drawing blood (she was trying to play and I’m sure it’s down to my inexperience). The poor cat gets the brunt of it but equally eggs her on as just as she walks away from him, he goes back after her! I hope that means he doesn’t mind being chased too much…

Our puppy pen should finally be arriving tomorrow; rookie mistake not making sure we had one before she came!

(Disclaimer that the cat has the whole of the upstairs, free access to outside and plenty of cat trees and windowsills that the puppy can’t get to but still chooses to be next to her if he can).

I’m now wondering if I need a tetanus shot ConfusedGrin

Aww, poor Bonnie! I hope she’s okay.

Can I join the thread? I'm picking my pup up in two weeks. She is a Parson Russell. Our dear old dog died a few months ago, and he was a Parson too, so I'm feeling fairly confident that we know what we are letting ourselves in for.
I know there will be a massive shock of transition, going from a nearly 16-year-old whose hellraising days were (mostly) behind him to a tiny new dog full of mischief . I know that I will be wringing my hands in a month or so, in the face of some puppy problem or other. But overwhelmingly I feel just blithe and ecstatic and sick with hunger for the coming whirlwind -- despite having consumed dozens of genuinely desperate why-the-hell-did-I-get-a-puppy threads on Mumsnet over the last 14yrs or so that I've been using this forum.

Aria20 · 13/07/2021 09:48

Yuk slugs and bugs lol. Pup also chases bees but she's partial to digging out ants nests and trying to lick ants! Confused

Turquoisesol · 13/07/2021 12:16

What do most people do for showers/baths? We have tried warm water hose in garde. But she hates it. Wondering if a warm bath would be easier just get it over with in and out quickly. Hosing doesn’t seem to get her very clean

ashmts · 13/07/2021 12:32

@Turquoisesol We do warm bath and rinse with the shower. She hates it. Cold muddy stinking puddle? Best thing ever, she's straight in Hmm We don't bathe her very often but at least it's effective, I can't imagine the hose would clean her too well if you're not using shampoo etc.

Hello to all the new pups Smile

Turquoisesol · 13/07/2021 12:39

Ok. I am just wondering if I messed up not getting her used to it when she was young! Wondering if I can forever just throw a stick in to the sea to get her clean !

ashmts · 13/07/2021 12:43

@Turquoisesol We tried when she was young, but you can't bathe them too soon and don't want to bathe them too much as it messes up their skin, so I don't really see how we could have done any more. We've tried the lickimat with peanut butter stuck to the side of the bath etc too. She still just wants out so we just do it as quickly as possible now. I'd persevere with trying to get her used to a bath though, Ashpup had a rash and we had to use special shampoo twice a week for a while so sometimes they might need to cope with the bath.

Turquoisesol · 13/07/2021 12:56

Thanks it’s helpful to know what other do

MiniChocs · 13/07/2021 13:33

@Random789 sounds like you're in for a busy ride after all these years! Good luck! Sorry to hear about your old dog.

We bath Hamish once a week because he goes on the muddiest walks ever at the weekends. He hated them at first but now he's chilled about it. Won't let us blow dry him though so we have a soaking wet pup launching about everywhere afterwards.

lifelongfrugaleer · 13/07/2021 13:35

Rarely bathed life dog unless he rolled in something odeous. Don’t intend to bath lifepup either

MeredithMae · 13/07/2021 13:45

MaePup has sloppy poos (my poor carpet). Since yesterday morning. Do I need to call the vet? She's absolutely fine in all ways, eating playing etc. Just the poos.

Turquoisesol · 13/07/2021 14:00

What kind of dogs do you have lifelongfrugaleer? I do. Wonder if I could just ignore the need for baths altogether, but wonder if she will start to smell bad. She looks surprisingly clean so far

LadyCatStark · 13/07/2021 14:30

Billy has had 2 baths which he hated, the second time he managed to jump right out and he was only 10 weeks old! He went for his first swim in the sea at the weekend and DH hosed him off after and he was furious! Now he won’t go anywhere near the hose (not a bad thing as he tried to chew it!).

@MeredithMae I don’t have any advice as Billy hasn’t had runny pops yet but does your insurance have an option to ring up and speak to a nurse?

Turquoisesol · 13/07/2021 14:39

Sounds like the bathtimes are a bit of a pickle !

MeredithMae · 13/07/2021 14:40

@LadyCatStark yes! Online vets are included. Good thinking. I'll book a session. Thanks

lifelongfrugaleer · 13/07/2021 14:48

Life dog was a collie x spaniel Life pup is a black lab who has just vommed on my sofa fgs

Aria20 · 13/07/2021 15:10

Our pup is chilled in bath. I literally put a puddle deep amount of warm water with puppy shampoo in it and then warm shower over her to get her fully wet. Use a shower puff ball thing to lather her up and then shower off to rinse. It's drying that's hard work... she gets the mental zoomies when wet and runs around crashing into things and takes so long to dry her with the hair dryer. The dressing gown was so good at saving me that hassle even though she growled and sulked over it!

We bathed her for the first time when she'd been here about 10 days, waited for her to settle in as didn't want to scare her or wash her mum/siblings scent off her but she did smell a bit so needed one! Then she's been washed about once every 3/4 weeks since as that's when she starts to smell and doggy perfume doesn't cut it! We've also had the groomer here once for a full trim and she'll get that done every few months inbetween our baths. We tried hosing her paws and underbelly off after muddy walk and she didn't like that so figured prob easier to save really muddy walks for when she's due a bath anyway lol.

MrsHerculePoirot · 13/07/2021 15:40

We’ve got a lab so doesn’t really need baths luckily! So far avoided him rolling in stinky stuff - although I’m sure that day will come 🤣

@MrsHerculePoirot my friends lab loves to roll in Fox poo at least once a week!!

Turquoisesol · 13/07/2021 16:35

Still waiting for our first fox poo incident here. She likes to roll in half chewed snails which is lovely !
