Hmm I was going to say humbug until I read others posts. Scooter or Oreo. Love both of those names!!

KirstenBlest · 24/01/2021 18:24

Digby

Wolfiefan · 24/01/2021 18:29

Why aren’t they registered?
Are parents eye healthy and breathing well? This is an issue with this breed.
Frankly I would contact the breed club and wait for a decent chance of a healthy pup. You may have to travel. And wait.
Don’t fuel BYB or puppy farmers.

frankie246 · 24/01/2021 18:34

I wish people would stop being so stupid and paying the ridiculous prices on pets4homes! All these buyers are doing are increasing dodgy breeders and dogs being stolen. I have recently purchased a registered puppy at pre COVID prices by a genuine breeder who knows her stuff. Patience and research your breeders help.

Lockdownisshit · 24/01/2021 18:37

Where do u find breederd @frankie246

YouHadMeAtWoof · 24/01/2021 19:15

It’s unlikely to be healthy unfortunately. You have no way of knowing if it’s inbred. I wonder if it’s parents have had any health tests done even if puppy hasn’t? You could be in for an awful lot of money being spent by yourself.

I was reading today about the lady who spent 7k on vets bills for her poorly bred puppy.

Wolfiefan · 24/01/2021 19:16

You contact the breed club OP and they can help guide you.

YouHadMeAtWoof · 24/01/2021 19:17

A good quality puppy has to be planned in advance. It’s likely that you will find a breeder and register for the next litter, or even the one after that, probably a good few months to a year in advance. Good breeders have waiting lists.

igglepigglegingin · 24/01/2021 19:24

I feel sorry for the OP as she was full of excitement for her new puppy and wanted ideas for names BUT I have to agree. I have one KC approved dog and another puppy which, I'm still waiting for - it'll be 12 months in planning (finding a KC breeder, meeting her, showing photos of our back garden, our dog, meeting her bitch face to face, seeing contracts, contacting previous owners) - by the time this next puppy arrives.
The most important part of all of this was, that the breeder vetted us.

It will be far worse if she gets the puppy home and it either dies or racks up £££££ in vets bills.

O/p if you do get it, make sure you get breeders insurance. It should be standard, but I suspect it won’t be. It will cover you for the first 4 weeks until you can get a proper policy in place.

If the puppies don’t come with that 4 weeks cover, take it as a warning.

frankie246 · 24/01/2021 20:36

@Lockdownisshit I contacted different breeders through the kennel club. I was then passed onto a waiting list before we even knew there was puppies going to be born. The breeder never advertised them and all had homes before they were even born. My puppy is registered, £2000 less than the price for the same breed on pets 4homes, comes with 5 weeks insurance, a puppy pack with food, is microchipped, wormed regularly. Please do you research first as you don't want to be left with a puppy with a lot of health issues caused by poor care or poor breeding.x

Lockdownisshit · 24/01/2021 20:48

Thanks @frankie246 i did just look on kennel club but I can’t find any shih tzu breeders :(

OP posts:
frankie246 · 24/01/2021 20:54

There's usually a club online for the breed that has breeders on.

bluebluezoo · 24/01/2021 20:57

Try champdogs. They list breeders, pedigrees, and any upcoming litters.

As a rule look for a breeder that only has one breed. Any crosses, or multiple different breeds is a warning sign.

Tavannach · 24/01/2021 21:07

Bertie.
I hope he's okay.

Wolfiefan · 24/01/2021 21:08

Don’t bother with KC. They are only really interested in if a dog is pedigree. Contact the breed club or society.

somethinginthewater · 24/01/2021 21:25

If he's not KC registered you'll never know if he is actually the breed they say, or whether his parents are brother and sister for example.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 25/01/2021 09:26

Pets4Homes do have a deposit scheme now where they hold the deposit and only release it to the breeder when the puppy has been delivered. I think it’s not compulsory though but might be a big red flag if the option was available and they hadn’t chosen to use it.

XiCi · 25/01/2021 12:07

I hope he's ok OP. as per MrsMiaWallace above just because he's sold on Pets4Homes doesn't mean that he wont be healthy. I know its very much frowned upon on MN to buy pets this way but thousands do. I know of a good few people that found their dogs this way and have had no problems with them. Maybe go back to the breeder with a list of questions esp re the inbreeding issue and any health checks on mum and dad

Boltonb · 25/01/2021 12:34

@Wolfiefan

Walk away. Unregistered. No way to check for inbreeding No health test or pedigree. There is no good reason not to register with KC. Only bad ones. Related parents? Bitch bred too often. This is a breed that has some health issues. Choose carefully.
Yes. You have most likely bought a puppy from a puppy farm. I suspect you know this though. A lot of the things you are saying seem deliberately trying to get a reaction.

And it’s impossible to tell from a photo whether a puppy has a heart murmur, genetic problems it. His eyes don’t look very bright though, which would concern me.

I’d never buy a puppy from pets4homes or a puppy farm though

CoffeeBeansGalore · 25/01/2021 12:46

Hi Op

Have just checked champdogs.co.uk.

There are 2 Shih Tzu litters posted.

Only KC reg breeders can use Champdogs to advertise.

I wondered that. This is the third thread about puppies in as many days- the last two were deleted as they didn't go the way the o/p wanted...
