He's cheap for a shih tzu, given the current trend for non-shedding puppies.

It's unusual because people don't normally have dogs of the opposite sex without them being neutered.

MabelMoo23 · 24/01/2021 16:41

So you’ve been in the house and physically seen both the Mum and Dad and where the puppies are being kept and socialised?

Or you’ve just seen a photo of the Mum and Dad?

There’s a big difference

Lockdownisshit · 24/01/2021 16:43

I went in before the new lockdown restrictions when they were first born seen mum dad & pups

It's very unusual for breeders to own both mum and dad. They're intact for a start! £1000 for this puppy is also very cheap in line with the inflated prices right now but I suppose that's dependent on where you live

I'm actually not one of those who think you should never buy an animal from Pets4Homes - I got my cat there for a tenner 7 years ago! However I'd definitely give this purchase more consideration because you really do need to see health checks etc for a puppy - and if you're asking if he looks healthy, it would seem you have some reservations

YoniAndGuy · 24/01/2021 17:03

No way do they own both, sorry.

I wouldn't buy it.

Lockdownisshit · 24/01/2021 17:12

Ive already paid deposit £200

With a breed that has been bred for certain characteristics, there are often health problems. A shih tzu has the shortened nose so may have breathing problems and eye issues.

The dog you saw might not be the father. The price being about half that of the others listed on P4H is a red flag.

MaelyssQ · 24/01/2021 17:15

He looks adorable and I would call him Steve.

A grand is cheap for shi tzu. I hope you haven't been scammed.

Lockdownisshit · 24/01/2021 17:25

@MaelyssQ i hope so too
They do look like the mum and dad and they showed me their last littler
But since payin ive had to message them once a week for updates myself as they have not been in touch

You seem concerned about money OP. Dogs can be expensive - have you budgeted for insurance/vet care etc?

dublingirl66 · 24/01/2021 17:30

Sweeeeeeeeet angel 😍😍😍😍

trevthecat · 24/01/2021 17:32

How did you pay deposit?

zenasfuck · 24/01/2021 17:36

So you bought a puppy from puppy farm/ backyard breeders with no health testing or paperwork and paid way under the going rate
And you would like us to tel you whether it looks healthy or not ?

Op, unless you are extremely lucky indeed, you are in for a lot of heartache and expense

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 24/01/2021 17:36

Boomer or Boots

Wolfiefan · 24/01/2021 17:39

Walk away.
Unregistered.
No way to check for inbreeding
No health test or pedigree.
There is no good reason not to register with KC. Only bad ones. Related parents? Bitch bred too often.
This is a breed that has some health issues. Choose carefully.

Whitney168 · 24/01/2021 17:41

Add to Wolfiefan’s list the increasing trade in stolen dogs that is supported by people happy to buy unregistered pups with no evidence of health testing.

Wolfiefan · 24/01/2021 17:42

Oh Whitney excellent point. Sad

This. You also seem very concerned about the money - you need to prepare yourself for the cost of a dog in real life. Your vet bills may shock you.

Have you owned a dog before in your adult life?

How old will he be when he comes to live with you?

XiCi · 24/01/2021 17:43

Steve is a great name Smile

Prices are so dependent on UK region though. Where i am (NW) a shih zhu puppy would be upwards of 2k but outside of major cities and in Wales/NI prices are half that

XiCi · 24/01/2021 17:49

Didn't see the above posts from Lynn and Wolfie.
Maybe you need to look into this a bit more OP

bluebluezoo · 24/01/2021 17:49

Have you physically seen the pup? Did you check the address out?

There are a lot of scams around atm where the breeder and puppy disappear once the deposit is paid...

cameocat · 24/01/2021 17:54

It is strange to have owners own both parents unless they own them for breeding OP. Owning them for breeding means a puppy farm. Especially if they've shown you pictures from the last litter.

We got our dog without papers, she was a mongrel/cross breed so wasn't registered. But she had official health checks, chipped and vaccinations. If you're buying a certain breed you should be looking for registration.

Having to chase updates also problematic, to me it shows they don't really care.

Good luck OP, I hope this is all legitimate.

MyView2 · 24/01/2021 17:54

He looks like a Buster to me, he’s very cute!

Flippy87 · 24/01/2021 17:56

Yeah I wouldn’t be buying that dog...I’d want kennel club registered and if you cared about animal welfare you’d be waiting for one or using a shelter.

MsMiaWallace · 24/01/2021 17:58

When we had pups we owned both Mum & Dad. Oh & we sold them on pets4homes Shock....!!!!
Mum & Dad & Pups where KC registered, healthy, vet checked, vaccinated, paperwork included etc etc
So shock OP you might be ok!

Anyways he looks lovely!
What about Mojo?
