Ok I know this probably belongs in telly addicts but...

That poor little dog who’s owner keeps taking him out in a pram and won’t let him walk and socialise!

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 25/11/2020 21:56

I know, that owner is barking.

And poor Meg Sad

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 26/11/2020 07:50

I'm just Shock at the whole series.

I was looking forward to more Meg, though. That's so sad, and terrible for her young handler.

ivfbeenbusy · 26/11/2020 07:58

The way she treats "Fabio" really makes me think that prospective dog owners should go through a strict adoption process before being allowed to have a dog!

I'm sure she said previously she didn't want kids but she 100% treats that dog like a baby substitute?! Plus who spends £600 on a Swarovski bow tie for a dog! No wonder Colin was out of there as soon as lockdown was lifted

sprockerdiles · 26/11/2020 08:34

I feel sad for poor Fabio being treated like a toy.

Itll be interesting to see what happens with the family with the two boys. The behaviourist was right that something about their new pup seemed really dodgy and I was a bit Shock that they were going to collect without having visited before.

Gurufloof · 26/11/2020 08:37

I missed a few minutes of this, what happened to meg?
And yes poor fabio, although by the end at least she had let him run free on the beach. I thought that was progress

Mindymomo · 26/11/2020 08:48

@Gurufloof. They said at the end of last week’s episode that Meg was run over and died. So sad as we have a Border Collie.

Beebumble2 · 26/11/2020 11:27

I love the programme. We’re hoping to get a puppy in the Spring, waiting to find out from the breeder. I didn’t understand why the Pomski owners didn’t leave the puppy with the breeders till after the move.

MLMbotsgoaway · 26/11/2020 11:37

@Beebumble2 I thought that - really unsettling for a new pup - but to be fair they seem like pretty good owners other than that.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 26/11/2020 12:14

Lots of Shock moments

The sad reality is that Fabio's owner risks creating a dog that's undersocialised, possibly reactive, and more likely to get into fights because he hasn't had the opportunity to learn manners as a pup.

Also Shock at the family going to visit the "poochon" after basically being told it's a puppy farm. What's the betting we don't see any footage because the farmers don't want it filmed, and they bring the puppy home anyway?

I don't think the Pomsky family are in any way prepared for the exercise / entertainment needs of a husky cross. Sigh.

And Meg, who seemed to have such a lovely future ahead of her Sad

Allington · 26/11/2020 12:31

I wanted to throw things at Fabio's owner... still, it headed in a better direction once she had him a few weeks, and hopefully the dog trainer and her husband will keep encouraging her to let him be a dog.

But yes, very sad about Meg Sad

mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork · 26/11/2020 13:32

I'm glad you've started this thread. Yes, there was one on Telly Addicts but it seems to have died (no-one commented after last night's episode). I LOVE Fabio - he seems to have a great personality. I was rooting for him to jump out of the pram in the park and glad he did. Also glad she let him run around on the beach and realised he was really enjoying it. I just want the dog behaviourist to come and give the owner a talking to (unfortunately, she seems very determined not to let any dog bigger than Fabio come anywhere near). I was disappointed that the mention by the dogowner they met in the park of how good puppy classes were for socialising fell on deaf ears.

The couple with the two children worry me. They did not seem to realise what a lot of work a puppy is - I am hoping the behaviourist told them off screen. Certainly, the mother, who is going to be main dog carer seems to think a walk or two and doing her work in between will work out just fine - I feel sure they aren't prepared for multiple loo outings while the puppy is toilet-trained. I think they need a young adult rescue. I bet they come back with a puppy from the puppy farm.

MLMbotsgoaway · 26/11/2020 13:44

I actually think they seem like a lovely family but like you say with zero idea of what a puppy is like. However I get a feeling that there may be more support in terms of dog walkers, doggie daycare etc than the program is showing there.

Also the ridiculously laid back terrier wasn’t exactly representative of a typical puppy. I felt like they should have given them actual puppies to “practice” with rather than grown dogs,

MLMbotsgoaway · 26/11/2020 13:45

@Allington it was her boyfriend - and hebuggered off the minute lockdown ended. Feel a bit sorry for her if I’m honest - but feel more sorry for poor Fabio.

jambeforeclottedcream · 26/11/2020 14:17

Watched the 1st half of this

Who the hell gets a puppy a day before moving house. Most responsible breeders would be happy to keep the pup for a couple of days until you're settled in to your new place

Don't get me started on the lunacy of Fabio

What dog did that north west London family go for in the end

Stellaris22 · 26/11/2020 14:26

Sad about Meg, I really hope the young handler can try again as she seemed really responsible.

Fabio's owner infuriated me. I get if she is protective, but that dog is going to end up being very reactive and having a lonely life. I absolutely despise anyone who dresses up a dog though, just get a doll not a living animal.

mrsrobin · 26/11/2020 14:49

Fabio in a pram - I don't know what to say. Fair enough if a dog can't walk, but, oh, it is disgusting. No wonder Colin was out like a shot! He did try to say she shouldn't be dressing the dog up etc.....
I hope the London family take heed of what the dog trainer said. She did her best. We will see.
The Pomeranian X Husky - how did that cross happen? The farmers must have got the Pom on a chair or something. I just hope the family can cope with a Husky X for their first dog. And I agree, why wouldn't you wait 2 days and then get the pup?
I wish the narrator would explain when things shown are not necessarily the best way to go about things.....I suppose at least the dog trainer is there!

JoeCalFuckingZaghe · 26/11/2020 14:58

I’m sad to read about Meg I missed the end of last weeks but the entire show infuriated me. Meg and her human were the only decent ones.

The family with Sage were completely irresponsible getting a dog when the dad was so very clearly against it, and then forcing him to walk / take care of the dog. Awful behaviour. I think they bugged me the most. Oh and The family getting a rescue dog from abroad when their current dog resource guards, absolute recipe for disaster. Not to mention the puppy farm, they obviously were going to get the dog regardless. Got torn to shreds on Twitter for daring to suggest they were irresponsible though.

I think it’s quite irresponsible of the bbc to put this shite on tv tbh.

Stellaris22 · 26/11/2020 15:02

Forgot about the rescue dog people, she seemed like such a lovely dog.

But when they admitted one of their dogs had socialisation issues and resource guards I thought it was silly getting another.

I got the feeling that because of their acres of space they never bothered socialising with other dogs.

Recruit2020 · 26/11/2020 15:12

The family off to the puppy farm at the start said we like the 'look' of XYZ. Seriously do people choose a dog purely on appearance? Recipe for disaster. Several of my colleagues have recently got 'lockdown' dogs and all are having a nightmare.

MLMbotsgoaway · 26/11/2020 15:18

Is Sage the one who where the dad went out and forgot the poo bags? He so obviously isn’t keen on dogs that it seems quite cruel to have one,

OP posts:
MLMbotsgoaway · 26/11/2020 15:22

I think loads of people choose a dog based on look. If they didn’t there wouldn’t be so many french bulldogs around.

OP posts:
Stellaris22 · 26/11/2020 15:33

Came across someone today who was running with their French Bulldog that did not sound physically capable of breathing whilst running.

So yes, people do buy purely based on appearance.

Obviously you want to like the look of your dog, but it's silly getting a dog that is then completely wrong for you.

MLMbotsgoaway · 26/11/2020 15:39

Also I’d never seen or heard of a pomski until last night! Very sweet looking but gosh I wonder about the energy levels - two very different breeds in a mix.

OP posts:
stroopwafelgirl · 26/11/2020 16:16

I turned over when waiting for masterchef. The family who did absolutely no research into the puppy farm breeder after deciding they weren’t willing to go onto a waiting list made me feel sick with frustration and anger and pity for those poor dogs. Absolutely irresponsible. Their whole handling of the situation - including getting the kids involved and bringing them to see the puppy - was just absurd and really shouldn’t be shown on TV. It’s basically giving the go-ahead for more irresponsible people to do the same. I was surprised at how gentle the dog behaviourist was with them over the video call. I would’ve given them a right bollocking. The show is basically a how-not-to-do it guide to dog ownership.

Stellaris22 · 26/11/2020 16:23

The London family really worried me. The attitude throughout was wrong. They both work full time (not an issue if you plan time off and find doggy daycare), but none of this seemed to have been considered. Then the Dad wanting a high energy dog but admitting he'd only walk it 'when he had time'. They were absolutely clueless and the behaviourist should have told them not to get a dog.

The refusal to wait was difficult to watch.
