Ok I know this probably belongs in telly addicts but...

That poor little dog who’s owner keeps taking him out in a pram and won’t let him walk and socialise!

Although we are going to a breeder of long standing and good reputation, I can’t resist looking at the puppy for sale adverts. I have noticed quite a few Pomchie puppies advertised for resale.it does make me upset.

QueenOfToast · 26/11/2020 17:02

I'm loving this show. It reminds me of watching Supernanny when the DC were little - the people who participate are often shown in such a poor light that it makes me feel eminently competent!

Shambolical1 · 26/11/2020 17:04

The Fabio woman needs to stop saying his name all the time over and over and OVER in varying tones of voice and teach him some commands instead.

Once you've trained a dog or puppy and you know each other, then yes, they might understand your tone of voice but at Fabio's age and stage of (not doing any) training, he's just going to tune her out...

"I'm glad I've trained him to come back", she says, when what she actually did was train him to run over to a strange dog and come back some time later when he felt like it. They were both lucky the other dog was friendly or at least accepting - it was so far away it was hard to tell - as she was in no way whatsoever in control. That scenario is the number one cause of issues between dogs (and dog owners).

Guaranteed the poor bugger will be back in his pram next episode.

And the puppy party! One grossly overweight and the other humping and peeing up everything.

They. Are. Not. Toys!

MLMbotsgoaway · 26/11/2020 17:07

The dressing up for that puppy party was ridiculous and I don’t jist mean the dogs. I get that you’re having your moment on tv - but rocking up in Pucci seemed so gauche.

Stellaris22 · 26/11/2020 17:21

I also found it annoying when Fabio's owner claimed Fabio had understood recall. He ran over to an on lead dog, pestered the dog and then came back when he wanted to. That's not recall. Particularly annoying as she keeps going on about other dogs being bad around hers!

Checked google maps after the London Dad said it was a 4 hour drive to look at the puppy, they are definitely going to Carmarthenshire.

MLMbotsgoaway · 26/11/2020 17:23

Is that somewhere well known for puppy farming? I wondered about that when they said there’s an area well known for it - wasn’t aware of it.

OP posts:
Stellaris22 · 26/11/2020 17:25

It is most definitely puppy farm territory and is a huge red flag.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 26/11/2020 17:37

West Wales is absolutely rife with puppy farms. The second they referred to it being in an area known for puppy farming I was going to bet it was West Wales

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 26/11/2020 17:47

I got the feeling that because of their acres of space they never bothered socialising with other dogs.
They had six acres I think. You could probably confine those two breeds to six acres if you did loads of training with them, but even then I think they'd get bored. They are big, ground-covering dogs, designed to range a hundred yards either side of you. They look stunning and I can 100% see why people fall for them, but they are not for the faint-hearted and they need lots of exercise and just as much mental stimulation.

The rescue seemed like a really sweet-natured girl. Looked to me like a GSP crossed with one of the low-slung mountain hound breeds. I love the mountain hounds but DH will not permit any more dogs.

MLMbotsgoaway · 26/11/2020 17:53

I had no idea! I know the many tears rescue is that way - is that why?

I thought they took the "To The North" turning!

Also, when lovely Fabio was bothering the distant dog on lead, I kept imagining the stream of muttered curses coming from its owner's mouth directed at Fabio's out-of-earshot owner.

The Pomski (?Lyra) is a lovely little character too but I don't think the family think enough about her needs. Thank goodness the behaviourist told them to give it a routine including rest times. When it was chewing all the little girls' toys, I wondered why they did not dog and little girls' toys apart (gate the dog off from play area?) - also, did not see any evidence of any dog toys until they went shopping for some. The obvious did not seem to have struck them.

Retrievemysanity · 26/11/2020 19:21

@QueenOfToast I loved that about supernanny too Grin

MabelMoo23 · 27/11/2020 10:17

Am so glad there is a thread!!!!

Been watching this, and so many thoughts!!!

Firstly yes, the London family, the way the behaviourist said “area known for puppy farming” so basically Wales to get around Lucy’s law. So yes a puppy farm then. And totally clueless, don’t want to wait and taking the children with them. Can’t make the children sad, so will clearly bring the puppy home. So so irresponsible.

As for Lyra the Pomski, actually I thought they weren’t great owners. Firstly, why get a new puppy the day before you move house??? Just leave with the breeder for a couple of days. Leaving her locked in the crate all night and complaining she’s done a poo.
Did you stay downstairs with her and take her out overnight for toileting? Maybe they did, but it sounded like they didn’t.
That said, seeing Lyra interact with their little girl who was 2 reassured me that I’m right waiting for a bit to get one, we have a 4 and a 3 yr old and my feeling is my children are just too young at the moment so we need to wait. My little ones won’t understand if a puppy chews their toys so we need to wait until probably my youngest is at school

As for Fabio... and the puppy party.... his owner clearly has issues

I’m loving the programme though and so glad there is a thread on it

MabelMoo23 · 27/11/2020 10:24

And the Great Dane Shelbee from last week!!! Fell in love with him (and made me want a Great Dane!) but I assume they were in a flat otherwise while the hell would you train a Great Dane to use a puppy pad?? You could argue why would you have a Great Dane in a flat, but hey ho. But the amount of pee on the pad, literally a lake.

And when we started peeing whilst running away, it was like someone hosing the lounge down he was so big. I admit I did laugh but totally impractical (in my opinion) to try and train a Great Dane in a flat!!!!

Stellaris22 · 27/11/2020 14:20

From the video it looked like the London family were going to see/buy a cockapoo. Which makes no sense when they clearly favoured a low energy dog, I guess they just thought small=low energy.

Not against cockapoos, but they have a lot of energy.

mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork · 27/11/2020 15:52

Yes, I thought that too, Stellaris.

sprockerdiles · 27/11/2020 19:57

It was also seemed a bit concerning that the London family thought they could get a puppy who would play when they wanted to play and just sit calmly when they didnt.

I have a sprocker so I know that certainly isn't the case for us, but is that true of ANY puppies? I thought it was common knowledge that puppies are full on.

Literallynoidea · 27/11/2020 22:51

Loved this thread and loving the programme.

cheesecrack · 28/11/2020 13:00

We watched this and are up to date now. I said I think the London family will come back without the puppy otherwise why would they allow it all to be aired? I dunno. I hope I'm right.

The fact that they asked the behaviourist, 'tried' the 2 types of breed then decided they had run out of patience was so surprising. Sort of like a slow moving car crash.

I hope the husky was the mum of the pomski. I remember a few threads on here of people seeking them out and being advised not to consider that kind of cross.

I thought the rescue dog was lovely and a good set up with decent training and input.

Sage's owners were daft. Like children - whoever doesn't want one wins.

MLMbotsgoaway · 28/11/2020 13:02

@Stellaris22 I think they said a poodle/bichon cross - which, to be fair would probably suit them but no of course from a puppy farm!

MrsZlatan · 28/11/2020 19:22

I’m sure in the trailer/opening credits it shows the N London family in what looks like the middle of the night with a fluffy looking pup.

Helenluvsrob · 29/11/2020 20:08

Enjoying this series. Poor Fabio is doomed to be a “ toy “ sadly. Not at all surprised that the older chap has left , I assume he was funding her spending addiction and got fed up with it 😕.

Meg. The only dog who seemed the perfect fit 😫

vanillandhoney · 29/11/2020 20:22

They do get a puppy. There's a clip of the dad in the trailer with one.

RedRiverHog · 29/11/2020 20:42

Did I hear right that the London family could be on a waiting list for a norfolk terrier for five months? A potential five months wait for the birth of a fairly rare breed litter. I would have jumped at that chance!

Bananaman123 · 29/11/2020 21:02

Bbc news have done some reporting on those puppy farms so they could have shown them footage of what happens in a puppy farm. They cpuld have been encouraged to look for a rescue pup instead.

My girl was rescued by sspca from a puppy farm and she was so deprived of water she was drinking her own urine, still eats grass out of habit i think (no tummy issues). I hate the idea of and puppy farms a d wish the demand wasnt there. Lots of dogs being stolen around here too by gangs.

Fabio, god i feel bad for him, she needs to get a grip. If i was the woma with the dog on the lead id be shouting over to get her to come for her dog!
