Hi I'm collecting a dog from our neighbours on Saturday that is in terrible condition. He's 13 ish, cries constantly and bangs into shit in the garden. He lives in a kennel and the rspca is not interested so I'm going to get him on Saturday. Obviously the first thing we need to do is take him to the vet, but he stinks so maybe he'll need a wash first?

He's so passive it makes me so sad, he's never been for a walk and it's only now we're able to talk to the neighbour about maybe giving him up.

Do we keep him away from our other dog? And he's never been inside so how do we transition him? I'm not a green dog owner but I've never actually picked a dog up away from its neglectful owners before.

I haven’t got a dog so can’t share a pic!

Just wanted to say that you couldn’t have done anymore and thank goodness Keith has a comfortable last couple of weeks.

What a heartbreaking tale. He was the most cute looking thing Flowers

Our rescue pup Willow is sure Keith is skipping about on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge, happy that his last memories were of love, care and warmth. You did a very special thing OP x

So sad. But you have dear little Keith happiness and love in his last few weeks, OP.

EvilPea · 26/09/2020 09:04

You did your best for Keith. And you can be safe in the knowledge you did the kind thing his previous owners would never have done. Flowers

I'm so sad to read this. I was truly hoping he'd get good news at the vet, stupidly optimistic of me. I'm so sad for you but at least he new kindness and comfort in his last few days, wee pet ☹️

ifonerememberstoturnonthelight · 26/09/2020 11:27

Oh no - so, so sorry. You gave that sweet boy more love in two weeks than he's had in many, many years though - thank you for trying so hard for him.

Here's Archie, who went over the Bridge last year, and Eddie, who's sending you cocker cuddles Flowers

RIP Keith. You gave that poor boy more love in 2 weeks then in the previous 13 years. Bless you for that. Here’s my boy Milo, also a rescued dog.

I’ve just found this thread😔 Sam and Ella say thank you for looking after Keith❤️

ifonerememberstoturnonthelight · 26/09/2020 17:51

I keep thinking maybe we did the wrong thing but he was in pain, and I think of all the things he had wrong and it wasn't right to keep him here in pain. It's not me who should feel guilty but our neighbours.

Mrsjayy · 26/09/2020 17:56

You did everything right.Flowers. We had our dog PTS last month and it is the hardest decision to make

Sforsh49 · 26/09/2020 18:15

OP @ifonerememberstoturnonthelight you did everything right. Keith knew it was time to go, because he felt safe, relaxed and loved, he was able to finally let his guard down knowing it was the right time for him, knowing that you would do the right thing for him, and he knew that he had finally found love. BTs don't show love with cuddles, they show it through their actions, just as you did for him xx
