Hi I'm collecting a dog from our neighbours on Saturday that is in terrible condition. He's 13 ish, cries constantly and bangs into shit in the garden. He lives in a kennel and the rspca is not interested so I'm going to get him on Saturday. Obviously the first thing we need to do is take him to the vet, but he stinks so maybe he'll need a wash first?

He's so passive it makes me so sad, he's never been for a walk and it's only now we're able to talk to the neighbour about maybe giving him up.

Do we keep him away from our other dog? And he's never been inside so how do we transition him? I'm not a green dog owner but I've never actually picked a dog up away from its neglectful owners before.

So sad to read this. I have been following the thread, since it started, but this is the first time I’ve posted. He is out of pain now and passed peacefully having known warmth, care, love and kindness in his final days, thanks to you OP. Flowers

Run free sweet Keith.

Here’s a photo of my old boy as requested.

Thank you for all you did for Keith OP.

I will miss this thread . In these depressing times it was so lovely to read something positive and kind everyday.

I loved thinking that Keith was experiencing comfort and warmth and could go to sleep well fed and experience affection. I wanted to cry when he played with the toy.

His is a sad story and you taking him in was such a simple but generous gesture. These are complicated times but it was so easy to relate to what you did.

Thank you again OP. Thanks

@ifonerememberstoturnonthelight We’ve had her since a puppy, a man put a deposit on her but let on to the breeder that he was going to use her as a ratter and breed from her several times to get his money back, she gave him his deposit back and she came to us, had he kept quiet she could have had a very different life.

Afternooninthepark · 25/09/2020 22:13

Oh poor Keith bless him. You did such a wonderful thing op, you must have such a good heart. I love dogs and they do not deserve to be treated like poor Keith had, those two weeks you gave him must have been like paradise. I truly hope karma comes and slaps your neighbours hard and for a long, long time. And as for the RSPCA, I’ve not yet had a positive experience with them! Luckily, my Archie won’t be spending the night outside (he sleeps on my bed!a) I hope Keith is at peace Flowers

What a lovely thing you did for Keith making his last few days comfortable and secure. Sounds like you were the first to show him love. Here's my adorable Dora in solidarity.

I'm so sorry to hear about Keith OP, safe to say he was loved by you and your family and everyone here on mumsnet, sleep tight little man.
Here are my 2, both are 12 and I know one day I will have to make that decision to let them go and Iv never been more afraid and upset at the thought, but I wouldn't regret having them both, had them since they were tiny puppies 💗💗

@ifonerememberstoturnonthelight

I'm so sorry 💔

But I'm SO pleased his last couple of weeks were so lovely for him. He was warm, happy & loved. He'd had a lovely spruce up.

He will have a lot of friends over the bridge! 🌈 🐶

Be kind to yourself this weekend, it's been a rollercoaster fortnight for you x

CiCiFreakingBabcock · 26/09/2020 00:05

@ifonerememberstoturnonthelight - I'm so sorry, Godspeed Keith, hugs to you and family. Keith knew love and comfort in those two weeks, and you did the right thing by him. x
