Rescuing dog on Saturday please help

Hi I'm collecting a dog from our neighbours on Saturday that is in terrible condition. He's 13 ish, cries constantly and bangs into shit in the garden. He lives in a kennel and the rspca is not interested so I'm going to get him on Saturday. Obviously the first thing we need to do is take him to the vet, but he stinks so maybe he'll need a wash first?

He's so passive it makes me so sad, he's never been for a walk and it's only now we're able to talk to the neighbour about maybe giving him up.

Do we keep him away from our other dog? And he's never been inside so how do we transition him? I'm not a green dog owner but I've never actually picked a dog up away from its neglectful owners before.

@Veterinari yes I'm leaving it to BTW to deal with them. They have access to his vet records and I was tempted
To call them but really I need to focus on getting this little munchkin as well as he can be. He on an anti sickness now for 2 days and hopefully that will allow his tummy to settle on the chappie so we can add the loxicom back in as his back legs are so stiff in the morning he really needs it but obviously he can't have it if he's being sick.

Fingers crossed being wormed for the first time in his life will help.. I hid the wormer in his tea and he spat it out so I was horrible mum and put it in the back of his throat and held him til he swallowed, then he got a sausage, I know it's harsh but he needs the medication and hopefully he won't remember.

I think we need another picture of Keith OP Grin this is the best thread ever

userxx · 24/09/2020 08:59

Thanks for the update. Is there a way to find the link for the go fund me?

spiderlight · 24/09/2020 10:08

He's definitely more of a Keith. Spike could be his middle name though. Glad he's enjoying the Chappie!

JustGetThroughTheDay · 24/09/2020 20:39

Chappie really settled our pooches tummy with the most basic mixer you can get.
Glad he's getting to stay with you. If the Border Terrier clan are anywhere near as loopy as the breed groups that I'm on you'll be well looked after!

I'm so sad tonight, he had some sort of fit after 11 , he's now crying a lot I'm a nurse and I know a fit when I see one it lasted a fair bit, I managed to film a bit of it . I'm tempted to get him out of his crate take him to the basement where I have a heated recliner and sit with him on there tonight.

He's just shaking his head constantly and crying and when he walks he now veers off to the left and then walks in cirles to wear he wants to get to. I put him in his crate afterwards and he's just whimpering and not very happy at all. :(

ifonerememberstoturnonthelight · 24/09/2020 23:38

The fit started with some sort of violent head twist to the left and back to centre twice and then he had a big seizure involved all 4 paws and he was doubly incontinent. I rang my vet and theyre seeing him tomorrow morning to discuss options.

If they recommend me to put him to sleep then I will, I will be heartbroken as he's so sweet and cute but it needs to be what is in KEITH's best interest and not mine.

Out of interest can I request
To come back on Monday or later that day so I can take him to Starbucks for a puppicino

Oh no ifone do you think there is possiblity of other electrolyte deficiency that could have caused this?

TitianaTitsling · 24/09/2020 23:43

If it is pts, will be with you hand holding- unmumnetty hug and x.

ifonerememberstoturnonthelight · 24/09/2020 23:49

I'm going to ask them to do more detailed bloods on him I wish we could get a more detailed neurological exam. He has so many odd behaviours that I'm sure are all linked. I'll try and add the video of his pawing and crying.

In fact here we are

He does this to all his bed, the hearth, the pile of fire food , he does it when he sit on the one piece of carpet. He does it when he comes across something he doesn't understand or like. When he's finished his pawing and crying he usually falls over and walks away to do it some where else

I'm so sorry, poor lovely Keith. I hope its good news at the vets, but, whatever they say, me and everyone else on this thread is with you both. I'm also pretty sure they would let you take him for a puppicino yes, what a sweet idea.

Flibbertyjibbit · 25/09/2020 00:04

Oh Keith, I'm so sorry to see the latest update. Sending an un-mumsnet hug your way Flowers

WingingItSince1973 · 25/09/2020 00:59

Oh was about to comment that this is one of the most heart warming posts I have ever read until I saw your latest update. Whatever the outcome for this gorgeous man you have given him dignity and love and shown him a real safe home. Well done. I hope your neighbours get banned from keeping animals. I have 2 dogs and 6 cats. I hate to think of any animals suffering like this. Gentle hugs to Keith and love to you and your family xxx

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/09/2020 01:08

I'm just heartbroken for poor old Keith. Thank goodness that he found you even for such a short time.

I'd rather give a thousand pounds to Border Terrier Rescue than a penny to the RSPCA. Didn't want to help the actual dog when he needed it, now they want to prosecute! Don't worry about the GoFundMe, Keith's just a spokesmodel for that.

ifonerememberstoturnonthelight · 25/09/2020 01:52

Just been to check on him, he's asleep looking fairly relaxed. My DH gave him a well loved dog toy to snuggle up to and Keith appears to have taken him at his word

Please ignore the shockingly messy house you can see I've been focusing on this little belter of a dog.

I left his tea down in case he felt like eating it over night.

Also he's in a crate because he's fine during the day but as it gets later on in the evening the crying gets worse and he won't stop pacing until he's out in his crate when we go to bed where the camera footage we have shows he immediately goes to sleep

OP posts:
MrsTerryPratchett · 25/09/2020 01:55

He's warm. he has food and water. People check on him. That's it for dogs.

My dog is confused as to why he is receiving the extra petting. Keith is the reason.

mogloveseggs · 25/09/2020 05:27

Oh poor Keith I'm really sorry to hear the latest Flowers

MJMG2015 · 25/09/2020 05:27

Some dogs ask to go to bed quite early, it's fine x

Poor Keith, I hope they can do some tests & give him some meds for his fits

He deserves some time with you, if at all possible, but if the vets says 'no it's kinder to PTS' then at least he's had a few days of warmth & love (and a teddy bear). Don't forget, it's you that'll suffer if he's PTS, not Keith. X

I love the way your other dog just snores throughout Keith trying to get comfy in the bed!!

Best wishes for this morning. 🐶

sunglassesonthetable · 25/09/2020 06:57

I've become so attached to Keith so I can't think how you must feel. I love hearing his updates.

Im so sorry to find out that he's had this knock back.

I know you will do the best for him OP.
