Roll up roll up... I'm a day late but here we are.

Latest update: Juiceypup is obsessed with DS's feet, who is now starting to get upset by it. He doesn't do it to anyone else, only him, and we don't know why. DS goes stock still as instructed but we have to prise his mouth open to get him off his toe. Has brought him to tears a few times.

Just booked Pup in to be spayed in a few weeks (condition of adoption). Poor sausage.

OwlInAnOakTree · 27/07/2020 12:22

Chews - pizzles still his favourite. They don't last long at all now, get eaten in about 15 minutes. Yak chew broke, he loved it at first but got bored of it, not sure whether to replace. Pigs ears he likes but they only last about five minutes. Cows ears last him a couple of days as they're chewier than pigs ears and he's not as obsessive about them as pizzles, so they don't get demolished in one go. Split antler is getting more interest now than it used to. I store it in the same box as the pizzles and wonder if that makes it more appealing. Coffee wood gets about three minutes of chewing a day and benebones get about one minute of chewing a day. Nylabone no interest whatsoever.

Teeth cleaning - I've got brush, finger brush and toothpaste. Every so often I say 'let's brush your teeth!' and then give up after about 30 seconds because he just thinks it's an invitation to nibble on my fingers.

Imadreamer44 · 27/07/2020 12:32

Whimzees are a big hit here, we generally give them as a distraction during our dinnertime.
Forgot to post here that we've stopped giving pizzles, she was downing gallons of water after chewing them which then made her sick. A shame because she bloody loved them!

OwlInAnOakTree · 27/07/2020 12:38

Think I'll give whimzees a try.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 27/07/2020 13:05

Whimzees are the shaped treats i meant he particularly likes the turtle shaped ones.

I havent tried pigs ears yet

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 27/07/2020 13:07

A carrot is always a hit with smileypup or cucumber frozen or not

OwlInAnOakTree · 27/07/2020 13:18

I'm overwhelmed by whimzee choice....

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 27/07/2020 13:27

@OwlInAnOakTree amazon do a selection box for £15.99

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 27/07/2020 13:29

Wilkinsons sell various shaped ones for £1 each

OwlInAnOakTree · 27/07/2020 13:35

Thanks @smilingthroughgrittedteeth.

DoorbellsSleighbellsSchnitzel · 27/07/2020 13:52

DoorbsPup loves a carrot too, and his most favourite thing in the world ever (at the moment...) is a fish jerky tiddler from Fish4Dogs. It doesn't last long (5-10m) but he is thrilled when he gets one! Also have Yak Chew & split antlers which get varying amounts of interest. Obviously my arm is still his most favourite chew...

Harnesses: we have a Woofles soft mesh harness which goes on really easily, and seems comfy and secure. Will probably invest in a ruffwear once he's bigger. He's a long haired breed though, and I'd prefer to keep him that way so harness will hopefully just be for the car and he'll learn to walk beautifully with a collar/lead instead, to avoid too much matting.

Had our most successful bath and blow dry this morning and he's looking all fluffy and delightful...shame it's pouring with rain here so it won't last! The amount of treats he needs to keep still(ish) for the whole things means that he finishes his bath smelling of a combo of puppy shampoo, peanut butter and fish paste 😂.

Aww. Hope it goes ok. Juiceypup is getting the snip on his 6 month birthday too (6 weeks to go) on advice of the vet. I reallllly hope it reduces the humping!

Oh gosh I'd not thought about snip yet!! Need to do flea and work stuf this week too

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 27/07/2020 14:54

We have offered carrots, cucumber, peppers, tomatoes, apples, pears, strawberries and blueberries. Nothing. She licks them and then moves them around and then ignores them! The irony of a totally carnivorous dog taking up residence in a veggie household!

SimonJT · 27/07/2020 14:58

Carrot, cucumber, melon etc are well liked here, the only thing he has turned down is lettuce.

I’m not sure if we’ll neuter Link or not, if we do it will be when he is fully grown so plenty time to think about it. If he was female we would due to the risk of uterus infection.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 27/07/2020 16:04

Smileypup is getting the snip we dont plan on breeding from him so might as well get him done to avoid any unwanted pregnancies with random bitches in the park

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 27/07/2020 16:06

Just had a chat with his breeder as i sent her some update pictures and she told me one of his brothers is called Roger, what an awesome name Grin

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 27/07/2020 16:09

just ordered some dried venison treats, im praying they dont smell too bad.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 27/07/2020 17:36

GingerPup goes nuts for this stuff, it’s her number one treat for training. A little toooo nuts, so we have to dig out some of the lesser value treats on occasion. It doesn’t smell though does leave a beefy residue on your hands! You can use the powdery bits at the bottom on a lucky mat.

Thanks for the mention of the relaxation protocol up thread. We tried day one today. Didn’t make it all the way through but will try again tomorrow!

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 27/07/2020 17:36

Lickimat*

OwlInAnOakTree · 27/07/2020 17:59

I started Day 1 today too @GingerAndTheBiscuits. Also came a cropper about 2/3s of the way through, when counting to 20 out loud he just jumped up at my face every time I tried it! Other than that bit, it was a good start. Yes, @muckandnettles, we've been doing mat training too but I like the protocol for telling me exactly what I need to do to progress!

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 27/07/2020 19:09

I like the structure of it @OwlInAnOakTree. Even if we never make it through it gives us something to work on each day! We got to counting to 10 out loud!

We did manage to go outside the living room door and leave pup sitting on her bed for a whopping 7 seconds today before she was up looking for us 😆 by 2025 we might be able to leave the house

muckandnettles · 27/07/2020 20:07

@SimonJT I'm also intending to leave pup 'in tact' at least until he is full grown and I'm hoping by then he will be so well behaved I will feel I can leave him like that. Both his same breed friends are fully in tact males as well (full grown) and their owners say they aren't going to have them done as there doesn't seem to be a need. I guess different breeds might be different. It's a controversial topic I know, but I can't see many benefits. I had my last dog 'done' quite young and he was a humper till the day he died, bless him, so I don't think it always has that consequence. He didn't show any interest in females though. I'd have a female spayed as I wouldn't want an accidental pregnancy, but I think males are a different matter.

muckandnettles · 27/07/2020 20:16

@smilingthroughgrittedteeth Roger is a great name!
