Roll up roll up... I'm a day late but here we are.

Latest update: Juiceypup is obsessed with DS's feet, who is now starting to get upset by it. He doesn't do it to anyone else, only him, and we don't know why. DS goes stock still as instructed but we have to prise his mouth open to get him off his toe. Has brought him to tears a few times.

He is 18.5 weeks now and mostly a delight!
Really please to read this juiceey

Emrysmcdogface · 27/07/2020 08:05

I hope you are taking about DH doing the 3:30 one @AmigoDog !

I broke after 1 week of doing 3:30 and then up for the day at 5!

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 27/07/2020 08:19

We managed 30 minutes on the floor before taking up residence on the bed last night. “Progress” Grin

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 27/07/2020 08:25

Smileypup has dinner at 5pm and some kind of chew at 7ish to occupy him over bedtime. He has a bowl attached to his crate at night so he can access water all the time. Hes rough routine is

6.45am - up put for a wee
7am - breakfast
7.30am - out for a poo/wee
8.30am - out for a walk
9am - nap
9.45am - wakes and out for a wee
10am - manic playing in the garden/running around after children/playing with toys
11.30am - nap
12.30pm - wakes, out for a wee
12.45pm - lunch
1.15pm - walk/poo
2.30pm - nap
3pm - playtime
5pm - dinner
5.30pm - out for wee/poo
6.30pm - walk
7pm - in crate with a chew
8pmish (depends when bedtime ends) - out for wee
9.30pm - out for wee
9.45pm - bedtime, even if im not going to bed he gets put up into his bedtime crate.

Hes 13 weeks but weve done this routine since 8wks, for the first week we had to get up at 3.30am for a wee then he got put back in his crate but he stopped waking for that at 9.5wks

My kids dont even have such a strict routine Confused

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 27/07/2020 08:27

@GingerAndTheBiscuits thats great

BiteyShark · 27/07/2020 08:38

Good news Ginger. I bet you feel a million times better just for more sleep. I know we did and it makes such a difference in the ability to function normally.

marmite51 · 27/07/2020 08:47

Our pup gets dinner at seven. Out for last pee at ten, then comes up to bed with me. When DH is working at six he lets him out for a pee at 5 and then he comes back to bed till 8. Today DH is off and puppy slept till 8.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 27/07/2020 08:59

@BiteyShark so much better. I don’t ache like an old woman every morning from sleeping upright on the sofa! Had a brief moment last night when youngest came in about half 2 and pup started getting excited but squirreled child back to her own bed and managed to get back into my own with everyone going back to sleep. She woke up when my alarm went off at half 7.

She’s been in a mad barky mood this morning because she saw a cat and it took a looooong time for her to settle back down.

AmigoDog · 27/07/2020 09:17

Emrysmcdogface I’ll be able to get him to do the occasional one but no more unfortunately. Have just told him 10pm is his job though so at least I can get an early night and relax reading or something.

marmite51 · 27/07/2020 09:17

Our puppy is in a mad bitey mood today too, running round the house like a whirling dervish. Going to be a long day, its pouring with rain and he HATES going outside in the rain.

Emrysmcdogface · 27/07/2020 09:21

Must be the weather @marmite51. Puppy is now in his night time playpen, having bitten my foot really hard several times. (Obviously he has bitten my hand, arm, and cardigan too, but that's pretty normal for him)

He's now conked out. He just thinks he should receive 3x his daily allowance of food, and gets grumpy when breakfast is over...,

AmigoDog · 27/07/2020 09:21

smilingthroughgrittedteeth
Thanks for sharing that schedule. Wow! I’m not sure we will be able to every be that organised, but will use it to work out some schedule-lite for us Grin

Well done ginger! It’s all steps in the right direction!

polkadotpjs · 27/07/2020 09:32

Well done ginger indeed ! Progress and sleep helps so much. I'm starting to try to notice patterns now and notice that he's SO excited to see us in the morning that he rapidly gets bitey and needs a nap after about an hour. It feels too soon but he's currently conked out. He's sleeping 10-6.30/7 and so is frenzied with excitement when we all get up. I'm so happy he sleeps and loves the crate. Just need to realise it's ok to nap. A lot.

AmigoDog · 27/07/2020 09:33

Oh dear... I hope all the grumpy rain hating dogs cheer up soon!

Final question from me for now. How keen are your pups with training. Mine is 9.5 and has zero interest. He’ll sniff around trying to get the treat for a while then will either become snappy or more often just give up and sit on my knee. He’s a toy poodle and I thought they were supposed to be at least one of the more interested breeds. I’m only trying to teach his name, sit and a distraction word.

SimonJT · 27/07/2020 10:27

@AmigoDog Not too bad, but he is a Shiba so we know he generally won’t be interested in pleasing us. We are however hand feeding him which supposedly helps. He can fairly reliably sit, come here and paw.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 27/07/2020 10:28

We have a fairly reliable Sit and Down. Not much else 😆 we have been trying to train “in your bed” for weeks and she still just looks at us as if to say “make me”!

Juiceey · 27/07/2020 10:53

We can't master paw. I've watched the YouTube videos, he just simply doesn't move his paws even a fraction!

OP posts:
smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 27/07/2020 11:11

Smileypup has a pretty reliable recall, sits, leaves (95% of the time), walks mostly to heel and gives a paw. He can sort of do down if hes in the mood but its more luck than skill and he is utterly hopeless at stay and off, he does enjoy training though and is a typical cocker who wants to please so he tries really hard.

@AmigoDog its the routine he put himself in and its not followed to the exact times apart from bedtime is always 9.45pm and meals are always at the same times, he needs a poo 30mins after eating so the rest of it just kind of fell into place

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 27/07/2020 11:16

does anyone have any ideas for chews? He has a yakk chew which he loves, an antler which he mostly just likes the sound it makes when dropped from the bottom step but that game keeps him amused for at least 20mins everyday Grin, those veggie chews that are shaped like starfish/turtles/crocodiles are a big hit and he has a tubo in his crate everynight before bed. I cant bring myself to buy the pizzle sticks Envy. He also has a toybox full of different textured toys to chew.

muckandnettles · 27/07/2020 11:26

Muckypup generally goes to bed around 9.30pm now and with a last wee outside after that if I'm up much later, though last night he went outside dutifully and just waited until I let him back in, no wee at all. This meant he went from about 8pm to 8am with no wee. I wish my bladder was as good! We put water away from 9pm.

The relaxation protocol is interesting and it's similar to what I'm already doing but with the settle mat rather than the bed, so we are part way there. It's useful to see it all set out like that to see the system to it. Just need to do it a lot!

polkadotpjs · 27/07/2020 11:31

I'm interested knchew ideas too. He loved a pig ear but not interested now in new ones typically. We've had all poo inside so far today. Sigh. DH taken kids out so I'm WFH and dog minding. He went crazy biting again after 30 minutes mad play so back sleep now with home spa music by Alexa on!! Grin

muckandnettles · 27/07/2020 11:32

@smilingthroughgrittedteeth Whimzees are quite good and innocuous ingredients I think - my pup is kept quite happy with one of those for 10 minutes or so, but he's a big chewer so it might last longer. He has also taken to cow's ears and the ones we got from Millie's don't stink at all. I've ordered some Moo Chews from Millie's today (can't bring myself to tell you what they actually are.) I bought him a leather chew which he ignores and a nylabone, likewise.

SimonJT · 27/07/2020 11:33

Anyone else started brushing their pups teeth yet?

Ken1976 · 27/07/2020 11:41

Our pup is 11 weeks old now. Still waking once at night but we have a baby monitor so we can take her out for a wee. We take it in turns to have the monitor in our rooms .
She is quite good at taking orders and we use the ow method for stopping her biting , I think though having a 2 year old dog who plays with her a lot also helps with the biting . She is having her injections this week so will be able to take her out soon .
Meanwhile we have set up a mini assault course in the garden and puppy is is already quite good at following it , though is getting through a lot of treatsSmile

Emrysmcdogface · 27/07/2020 11:54

Oooh, we are having second injections this week too @Ken1976

Can't wait to be able to take him for a walk!

Yesterday he learnt lie down. Today he has completely forgotten it and is doing his 'you alright dear?' Look whenever I ask him to do it. Gah
