Roll up roll up... I'm a day late but here we are.

Latest update: Juiceypup is obsessed with DS's feet, who is now starting to get upset by it. He doesn't do it to anyone else, only him, and we don't know why. DS goes stock still as instructed but we have to prise his mouth open to get him off his toe. Has brought him to tears a few times.

Oh and I won't say much about the negative posts.. venting/ranting is a normal part of life and doesn't mean we don't love our pets!

So jog on, with your judgments. You're in the wrong thread.

Oh and we've got a Perfect Fit harness. It's great. Really adjustable and easy to get on and off. We went to a stockist (found on the website) and she measured him up, but there's a size chart on their website and apparently you can also just email them with your measurements and they tell you what you need.

@GingerAndTheBiscuits Muckypup managed to slip out of his harness somehow as well when I wasn't paying enough attention. I think it might have been a little too loose and he just pulled it over his head like a jumper! Wish I'd seen him do it really.

Today I am feeling very proud of myself as I clipped all of Mucky's claws all by myself. I gave him a salmon sausage (from Millie's, very hard and chewy) and held him in place somehow and just did them all. I have previously been quite squeamish about it in case I make a claw bleed but I've decided little and often. He wasn't entirely happy about it, but let me do it without any fuss really becauseof the sausage. I also cleaned one of his ears as it looked a bit manky, so need to keep my eye on that. So, what an amazing day!

Just to join the harness discussion, ours is a Ruffwear, two point harness. It's supposed to be good if they pull too much as you can attach to the front as well as the back, but so far he's not a bad walker so I haven't tried the front attach. I might eventually get him something better, as this is looking quite tatty already, but what I'd really like is for him to be such an excellent walker that we just pop the lead on his collar. Or one of those leads that is all in one that you just loop round their neck - they are so cool!

Glad we’re not the only ones with pup on our bed @Juiceey. Sounds like he is doing great!

Imadreamer44 · 26/07/2020 17:34

We've had pup in a pen next to our bed since night 2 but she keeps looking longingly at the bed and jumps on it whenever she gets the chance so we shall see how long it lasts l

Who has everyone gone with for insurance? We had some weeks free from the rescue but need to make arrangements for the long term.

We’re with petplan on a covered for life policy. We have the same policy for the cat, they’re one of the few companies to cover dental procedures (including scale and polish) and when you make a claim your premiums do not increase. The majority of vets claim direct from petplan, so each time we have made a claim for our cat we have just paid the £70 copay and the rest has been paid direct to the vet.
GingerAndTheBiscuits · 26/07/2020 17:59

Ah that’s handy to know @SimonJT as that’s who our free weeks are with so easy to keep it running. I’ve done a few price comparisons but it’s not always obvious what is in the small print from the comparisons.

BiteyShark · 26/07/2020 18:04

I recommend a life policy given we claimed a couple of thousand pounds before BiteyDogs first birthday which would have meant many exclusions if we had only had a basic (year only) policy.

Coffeewithmyoxyg3n · 26/07/2020 18:06

Anyone elses puppy bark at everything? Dpup barks everything, but the worst is his reflection in the door at night which is a pain as means every time he follows me into the kitchen once dark he is going to bark. Our neighbors must hate us!

Have had some small success today with DD and dpup, been getting her to sit and stroke him while plying him with treats and clicking the good behaviour. He seemed more keen to lick than bite her after that for a short while. Only when still though, as soon as she moves he is going for her feet. But baby steps! I can't wait to be able to just take him for a walk when he's in that bitey mood in the evenings so DD isn't just hiding upstairs or we are banished to the garden.

OwlInAnOakTree · 26/07/2020 18:06

I've got Tesco, was comparatively good value for live cover.

polkadotpjs · 26/07/2020 18:46

I went for pet plan too as the quote wasn't much off the cheapest and also should get £40 I think as cash back from Quidco if you use it?
We took polka pup out with friends today. They'd a massive walk planned so we took our Pup's newest gadget- the front facing rucksack as a carrier thing. No doubt £££ but DH paid so whatever. It was a way longer walk than I anticipated and pup was knackered from the smells/ sounds and huge boards of dogs. He's slept for 2 hours since home! He was carried mostly too so goes to show that smells/ sniffs etc are all tiring too !

We're with Bought By Many. Recommended by the vet. £37 a month for a full complete lifetime policy

They also cover dental and pay direct to vets.

Thanks @Polkadotpjs and @Juiceey - I’ve seen that one on Facebook a lot!

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 26/07/2020 19:57

We have lifetime cover with LV, i used them with my old dog and they were brilliant, if you use topcashback you can get up to £50 back too. It was £210 for the year

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 26/07/2020 20:00

took smileypup for a walk with my youngest 2 children (2yrs and 3yrs) just to the end of our road and he took great offence to someone talking to the girls and actually growled at him, must have been something about him as he was fine with a lady further down who said hello and he wagges his tail at her.

marmite51 · 26/07/2020 20:09

We have a policy with Boughtbymany. Went with quidco and got some cashback. We got so fed up looking at quotes, just gave in and picked one!

Emrysmcdogface · 26/07/2020 21:13

Glad someone asked about insurance! That's on my to do list too!

Anyone worked out how to empty the dishwasher without a puppy licking the clean plates?

marmite51 · 26/07/2020 21:46

Nope! Today we had a white nose stained orange by tomato soup...

polkadotpjs · 26/07/2020 22:27

Caught polka pup standing on the dishwasher door earlier. He loves it 🙄

AmigoDog · 27/07/2020 07:02

Insurance and harnesses are the two main things on my list so thank you for the recommendations.

How long before their bed time do you all feed your puppy at night? And do you leave water in their crate over night?
Mine is still so little and tends to fall asleep at our feet from 8 - although we’ve been transferring him to his crate at 9/9:30ish as sometimes he has been waking up after he first falls asleep and also to take him to the loo (he usually wees but doesn’t poo).
I went down to check him at 4:10 This morning. He looked up at me but fell asleep straightaway. So I lay in the camp bed in the front room and dozed for about an hour. He didn’t make any obvious noises although he is still quite quiet. Anyway when I checked again he’d both weed in and soiled his crate. I feel so bad! This is the first time it’s happened. Yesterday he’d had a very similar night but made it through to 4:45 without needing to toilet so I’m not sure if I’d just missed it this morning or if maybe it had happened earlier in the night and I hadn’t noticed.
I’ll obviously do a better job of checking him tomorrow morning when I go down at 4ish but just wondering if there’s anything else I should be doing?

Emrysmcdogface · 27/07/2020 07:21

Glad it's not just me @polkadotpjs and @marmite51 !

Our puppy is 11 weeks, and he doesn't have access to food or water from his bedtime (7pm) until breakfast (5am).

We do take him for a wee at 10:30 pm and 3:30 am.

Fortunately, we alternate, so I do 10:30 and 5 am. DD does 3:30 am, god bless her!

AmigoDog · 27/07/2020 07:24

Reading that back it seems like I’m expecting him to not toilet for a really long time over night. Maybe I need to go back a full hour and set my alarm at 3 or something? The thing is that once he wakes up to use the loo he is awake for quite some time. Shall I just take him outside at 3 and then be quite strict about putting him back in his crate after?

AmigoDog · 27/07/2020 07:30

Emrysmcdogface Thank you. Yes I need to do something more like that. I’ve been doing it all myself so need to get DH to do the evening one I think.
