I fucked up, I feel horrendous

Took my dog to the vet this afternoon, left little dog with DH, he was working from home.
Got home and she's found a bottle of metacam and chewed through it, no idea how much she managed to eat but it was full and it's now empty. About 60 seconds after I got home I was out the door with the other dog and she's had an injection to make her sick and now she's on a drip. She'll be at the vet for 48 hours minimum. I'm so worried about her.

She only weighs 4kg. I know the risk is to her kidneys and I'm so thankful that she had no symptoms at all by the time she got to the vet.

I feel like the worst person in the world.

It happens. My dog ate a full pack of ibuprofen in the few minutes it took me to bring the last bag of shopping in from the car.

You've done nothing wrong, please please don't feel bad about it, the get into anything they can. My dog is about the same size and he had half a dairy milk bar in the time it took me to change ds nappy last year.

Yeah, thank god. He puked most of the pills up on the way to the vet then had an overnight stay just to be sure.

These things happen. I had to rush my dog to the vet recently as I left a carrot cake on the side and she devoured the whole thing, which was filled with raisins. Thankfully I realised quickly and just phoned them and said I was coming in and they made her puke it all up, but these things are pretty common so don't blame yourself. It sounds like you got her there quickly and she's in the right place. Hopefully it'll just be an expensive story to tell once she's back home

My BIL had a dog that would eat his girlfriend's panties. Find them in the hamper, hunt them down in her chest of drawers, pull them out of the laundry basket minutes before washing. Worn were preferred, but freshly laundered would do in a pinch.

GF wasn't super neat. After the first hundred(s) of dollars, you'd think she'd have invested in a safe. AmIright?

Ours ate every scrap of Christmas chocolate on NYE after breaking a lock, luckily he's a big chap so not quite as risky but the feeling is awful

You didn't overreact, quick response was totally appropriate. But don't beat yourself up either, these things happen. Our dog had an overnight stay at the vets after eating a pack of blood-pressure tablets.

Tell him to stop it if he tries to find fault with anything you did or said. You can add that you're just glad the dog is ok.

It became a standing joke that he felt unwell and sought his own help. He was fine.

@Tikiboob Awww she's lovely. They're buggers aren't they! Yep I have a million stories about my little sod. He opened a kitchen cupboard and ate a sample of everything inside, including chocolate and christmas pudding and a bunch of stuff. Flooded the house. Forced me to break into a neighbours garden when he escaped through the hedge into there and they were out. I swear he's put me off having kids. The stress is too much!

Accidental metacam over disease is really very common - the most common version is vet carefully explains use to one adult who goes how and tosses it other adult saying give dog this with no explainition. Other adult squirts massive dollop on food dog stuffs down then adult reads instructions and realises over dose.
Please don't worry the fluids given so soon after ingestion are highly likely to protect the kidneys and your pup will almost certainly be fine.

Mine did it, except it was Propalin, and 5 minutes before I was meant to load her in the camper to go on holiday.

We left 12 hours later, after I thought the vomiting injection had had time to settle. It hadn't, and she pretty much threw up the whole way. So we arrived at the campsite in the wee small hours, in the pitch black, van covered in beagle vomit, only to find it flooded.

The holiday got better from there.
