The doghouse

I fucked up, I feel horrendous

Took my dog to the vet this afternoon, left little dog with DH, he was working from home.
Got home and she's found a bottle of metacam and chewed through it, no idea how much she managed to eat but it was full and it's now empty. About 60 seconds after I got home I was out the door with the other dog and she's had an injection to make her sick and now she's on a drip. She'll be at the vet for 48 hours minimum. I'm so worried about her.

She only weighs 4kg. I know the risk is to her kidneys and I'm so thankful that she had no symptoms at all by the time she got to the vet.

I feel like the worst person in the world.

So glad your pup is on the mend. Our border loves chewing his way through plastic bottles, much more Interesting than his toys. 🙈

Really good news, glad she is well.

I took my GSD to the vets for lameness, came back with anti-inflammatories, popped them on the kitchen counter, turned my back, he ate them, we had to go straight back to the vet to make him vomit. Might as well live at the vets!

These things happen. Some of the dog medications taste very nice to make it easier for the dogs to accept but can be lethal in large doses. I have yummy tasting steroids for one of my dogs and have to be very careful to lock them away.

Phew 😅 our dpup is only 11 weeks and I've taken out a comprehensive policy as I've heard countless stories like yours. You're definitely not alone.

@midnightstar66 we do have insurance, our excess is 100 but we felt it was easier to pay the bill and then claim it back from pet plan :) I

Sounds like you could benefit from insurance OP 😆. My friends whippet has eaten anything and everything she can get on surfaces like a cat can so nothing is safe and if she can't get the wrappers off she'll eat them as well. She's 18 now so kind of a medical marvel with all she's consumed - raisins, whole bags of chocolate, blocks of Stilton including the wrapping, all kinds of medicines and never actually attended a vet.

@WhySeaEmm the vet we use are very cheap! We paid £1800
For similar treatment (drunken dog) at a different vet. Thank god they're so good! Ha he's a menace!

And yes puppy proof everything!

I can't stop laughing at your dog being drunk sorry OP! Glad all is ok now and not too expensive either really, I thought it would be a lot more.

This thread has made me really realise how much I need to puppy proof before ours comes home in 2 weeks.

Our dpuppy destroyed the second TV remote since yesterday.
She can sniff out plastic it seems.
Ds's army figures have an array of disfigurements...
When does a dpuppy stop chewing?
Sad
Doesn't help when her nose is already table top level.
Maybe I need shorter ddogs...

ITV wtf!
It was all....

Our two lurches ate the entire Christmas dinner. ITV was all laid out ready to serve, big turkey, all the trimmings when we had a phone call to say our cows were out. Everyone rushed out and someone left the dining room door open. Returned 15 minutes later and there was literally nothing left, they’d scoffed everything including cranberry sauce, bread sauce, the whole works.
We ended up having cheese on toast.

3 weeks into lockdown, my ddog managed to open a packet of 10 chocolate mini rolls and eat the lot, including rather a lot of plastic packaging!

One trip to the vet.
Medicine to make her vomit.
Medicine to stop her vomiting!
Charcoal mixture fit 24 hours.
And a bill for £160!

Grrrrrrrr.
