Do you let your dogs on the sofa?

I used to but I'm getting fed up of hoovering off the hair everyday.

My parents have greyhounds, stretched out they take up an entire 3 seater sofa.

exLtEveDallas · 06/02/2020 17:10

My dog has his own sofa Blush it does have a throw so I can kick him off and take that off if we have guests that might like to use if

BiteyShark · 06/02/2020 17:47

Our sofas are leather and bought with having dogs in mind.

One sofa is a bit 'hard' and 'slippy' for the dog so he has a duvet on it to make it more comfy Blush

LaurieFairyCake · 06/02/2020 17:52

My dog has her own corner of the sofa with her own tartan blanket and cushion

She's so smart she will not go on to any other bit of the sofa - even if you pick her up to sit on YOU she gives you a hard stare and goes back to her bit of the sofa

EnidPrunehat · 06/02/2020 17:54

Hell, yes. It's his home too.I've got a faux leather sofa which just wipes down but at sitting down time it is covered with a throw that's much comfier for us all to sit on. I genuinely think you need to make compromises when you have dogs. If you want a truly immaculate home you are probably best living without pets of the furry kind.

No. She has a comfy bed with warm fleecy blankets, a beanbag in the living-room also with a fleecy cover on it and a chair by the window.
So no, she doesn't go on the sofa.

Gogolego · 06/02/2020 19:58

Yup lasted about a week

Blankets are your friends

Fatarseflanagan09 · 06/02/2020 20:01

I tried the no sofa rule, failed to be consistent as my huge labradoodle is so warm and cuddles up to me (she's here now). My dogs are only allowed on the sofa if they ask nicely and I agree. they stand and stare at me, they're either told OK or- in your beds. They're Very Good Dogs - one is on the sofa with me, the young one spark out in her bed.
I do understand the no sofa, no upstairs rule. I seem to lack the wherewithal to impose it

whiteroseredrose · 06/02/2020 20:13

Yup. Dog on sofa and in bed!

DuchessAnnogovia · 06/02/2020 20:19

We intended to have a no dog on sofa rule. It lasted about an hour! Taliesin loves cuddling up with everyone. Throws are a must though.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 06/02/2020 20:20

Only allowed on if the manky old throw is ready.

I get stared at meaningfully until I sort it out...

moochew · 06/02/2020 20:23

We had a no dog on the sofa rule - mostly because he was resource guarding me on the sofa and then we noticed we were all sitting on the floor to be with the dog - so we decided the dog should be on the sofa - he just had to sit before he was allowed up - he doesn't shed much so as long as his paws are cleaned there's no problem!

HarrietBasset · 06/02/2020 20:30

Mine even has a sofa ramp Smile

Love all the photos! I find people who allow dogs on sofas much more grounded and chilled out 😀

Yes, my dod sleeps on our sofa and our beds

bilbodog · 06/02/2020 20:53

Yes - both sofas and both armchairs! Not upstairs yet as she still likes to chew things...

steppemum · 06/02/2020 21:01

we've had our dog for 3 years and it has always been a strict no sofa rule.
He has one chair he has a cushion on, and he is allowed up when the cushion is on and not otherwise.
He has a bed in every room.

he isn't allowed on our bed either, but he does sleep on ds bed.

But in the last coupel of months we have relaxed a bit. Now we have a blanket. When we are sittgin on the sofa and get the blanket out, he is allwed up.
Never otherwise. Havign not been allowed for so long, he really knows, and sometimes sits and gives me 'the look' until I get the blanket. He always cuddles right up to me on the blanket, and then, when he has had enough he gets off the sofa and goes to his bed.

So, best of both worlds.

LochJessMonster · 06/02/2020 21:05

@HarrietBasset That ramp is a whole other level! Impressed.

HarrietBasset · 06/02/2020 21:10

@lochjessmonster she is spoilt...also as her breed is prone to back problems its actually safer for her than flinging herself off!
