What do you feed your dog? Our puppy came to us on Hills and from reviews nutritional content is low. I was looking at Eden but worry the high protein content could upset his tummy. He also has nature’s diet meat one meal a day. I’d prefer not to feed raw.

We feed our yorkie girl James Wellbeloved. She came to us on Bakers 🤮 we had no idea how awful Bakers was until the vet asked us what she eats and recoiled in horror when we told her! We switched immediately when she recommend James Wellbeloved and has thrived (nearly 4 now)

We started her off on raw but she wouldn’t eat it. She now has Nature’s Menu sachets. Not ideal but we didn’t know how we could force the raw diet.

I feed Millies Wolfheart to my 4 ,there is some information on protein rates on their website.

I just mix and match depending on what I fancy buying next and tend to have 2/3 varieties in stock to choose from each meal.

1/2 raw, 1/2 Wolf of Wilderness dry food.

We've had problems with her food refusing before but she seems happy with these two.

Missbattendog - I like the idea of giving different kinds of kibble. We currently feed Orijen, but our local pet shop suggested Eden as a slightly cheaper but just as good alternative.
I always think ddog will get fed up of the same every day.
I assumed mixing food would upset their stomachs but obviously that doesn’t happen with yours.
Might look into some brands I’m happy with (I like the meat in them to be as ‘free range’ and ‘line caught’ as possible) to try and mix it up a bit.

I think the main thing dogs can take time adjusting to is a higher meat content. Once they are used to it, you should be able to swap quite easily between high quality kibble. We feed raw, but he also has kibble when we forget to get the food out of the freezer. Currently we have canagan. He also has random leftovers, a raw egg once in a while and things like kale, peppers, carrot. Also a bit of kefir goes down well. I try to give as much variety as possible.

Yep. I switched right from the off so he's always been fine and used to it. If I had fed a a single food a while I would start off slowly. Just adding one food in and seeing how the dog goes. Then another.

For me the advantages are/have been:

• I am not tied to a single food. We go away often and I am rubbish so forget to take his food sometimes. I can buy a stop gap food and know he'll eat it.
• he never gets bored of a food. I also add stuff to meals. Sardines, egg, leftover veggies. That kind of thing.
• I think it helps avoid allergies developing which can be triggered by over exposure to the same foods wall the time.

I too feed a mix of brands and flavours. In fact he has a different one every day as we feed one tray/can of wet with a sprinkling of kibble and dry biscuits. My dog didn't do well on kibble (he has a life long stomach condition and kibble is too harsh on his stomach) so he has around 90% wet versus dry. The tiny bit of dry is just for a different texture. Swopping wet food everyday does not affect his stomach at all but the brands I use are high in protein (around 70%).

At the moment wet food is typically forthglade, Millie's wolfheart and carnilove. But I usually use allaboutdogfood.co.uk to look for different brands to try.

The tiny bit of kibble is Millie's wolfheart as well.

Btw Millie's wolfheart turkey training treats are really good. Very tiny so you don't need to break them apart and my dog eats them like sweets.

Just wanted to add ,swapping high quality foods may be fine for some dogs (some won't tolerate a swap between brands)but I wouldn't recommend it for a growing puppy .
It could upset their stomach & also they need a higher amount of calcium ,fat etc than our fully grown dogs .

When we weaned the puppies the nutritionist at Millies Wolfheart recommended

we fed their Countryside Mix until they are older . I do chop & change their wet food every few months though ,as it's only a small amount & I know they are getting the right balance from their biscuits.

My youngest,my girl is 9 months & still on Countryside & thriving ,once she's older I'll add their Turkey & veg or one of Millies other varieties in .

We used to feed a mix but switched to tails.com 3 months ago. I love it as it does all of the work for me. The right amount arrives for the month and they tell me how much to feed and he loves it.

I am convinced tails.com is using mn as an advertising platform.

That wouldn't work for me at all. I adjust the food my dog gets on a daily basis depending on his exercise needs. It varies all the time. Sometimes he goes to daycare, another daycare we use he's on the go all day, other days we do agility or other training and some days we don't leave the house. I just increase or decrease the amount of food as I see fit but there is no way any company could predict how much my dog needed over a week let alone a month.

Just had a look at the ingredients in tails & see that it's mostly fillers .
Rice,Maize and 2 lots of potato .

Not sure how expensive it is but that's a whole lot of carbs !

I tried high quality dry and got upset stomachs, it was awful. Switched to raw, which they both lived and was tbh very easy. When the older one got ill and needed a special diet I started cooking and preparing it myself for her, and it was just easier to give them both the same. She sadly was pts a year and a half ago but I’ve continued giving ddog2 a hone cooked meal and tbh she thrives on it. It also fits in very well with us as she has what we meat we’re having etc so there’s no waste for us (hers is cooked separately, she doesn’t eat the same thing). She also has sardines and eggs regularly. I would t go back to bought processed food for her any more.

I've used Millies Wolfheart for about 5 years, and change between their recipes to give the dogs some variety. We mostly stick to Gundog, Agility or Peak Performance if they need a few more calories and the more bags you buy, the better value it is. There is an awful lot of crap food out there, and the vet stuff can be some of the worst offenders.

We also use Natures Menu Country Hunter sachets of meat to add some changes, and cooked chicken/veg.

They both have glossy shiny coats and the vet said they're in really good condition (2 spaniels).

Our breeder feeds raw but we didn't really want to as we are both vegetarian. We tried our puppy on James Wellbeloved but he didn't really like it. Tried a few others and he just would hardly eat. We were worried about him so tried raw and he went back to eating!

It works out a lot cheaper too

Canagen - no grain. She loves it. Grain is really hard on our dog's tummy!

I have to say I don't get the love for Tails - it's mostly fillers!

A lot of dogs can get upset stomachs when switching foods ,especially if the previous food was full of additives & fillers withlityle meat.
The body has to adjust & will expel .
A lot of people don't realise this .

My Lab came to us with explosive bowels ,it was so bad we did a straight swap rather than mixing & the difference was noticeable very quickly,we've never had a problem since .

Yup, rather than pay the local corner ship price for complete, I bought a tin, turned out to be expensive after a worrying few days of upset stomach and a visit to the Vet!
