What do you feed your dog?

What do you feed your dog? Our puppy came to us on Hills and from reviews nutritional content is low. I was looking at Eden but worry the high protein content could upset his tummy. He also has nature’s diet meat one meal a day. I’d prefer not to feed raw.

I think as long as the food has a high enough meat/protein content most adult dogs without stomach issues will be fine switching between brands.

Mine gets bored of one brand after a meal or two so we have to switch regularly to get him to eat! My cupboard looks like Tesco pet food aisle Blush

adaline same here. In fact I recently ordered another brand which I am waiting to arrive to keep his interest Grin

PUGaLUGS · 24/02/2019 09:55

I feed mine raw.

Floralnomad · 24/02/2019 09:56

Mine has scrambled egg for breakfast with a small amount of grilled bacon ( I know it’s bad for him before anybody tells me) and then he has Millie’s kibble and forthglade wet for tea . He is only allowed turkey / duck or lamb as everything else upsets him . I may swap to forthglade kibble when my Millie’s bag runs out as I can buy it locally .

WatcherOfTheNight · 24/02/2019 10:03

Yes ,they should, 3 of mine could but one of them not a chance.
Luckily Millies has enough of a selection that they don't get bored & I swap the toppings.
They love fish ,veg ,fruit etc. and get raw bones to gnaw on.

I thought it worth mentioning as the Op has a puppy.

Our dog is almost 1 and has always been on iams he came to us on that so kept him on it and he seems to be doing great. It's a cheaper one I know but I'm wary of changing it and maybe upsetting him. Our last dog was on tails and I found the service and everything about it quite good, was no problem to cancel when he died either.

ealingwestmum · 24/02/2019 12:38

Butternut Box. Alternate each day with each of the 4 flavours. Could not be more regular and diarrhoea as she is now, but most of all the weight control has been really good over 10 months.

ealingwestmum · 24/02/2019 12:39

diarrhoea free! Blush

Alexis21 · 24/02/2019 17:59

We have a 15 year old miniature poodle who eats only fresh boiled chicken or small strips of steak. As a treat he may have some white chocolate buttons. Fit as a fiddle and bouncy as a puppy even at his advanced age. Oh and he has those teeth and gum cleaning sticks.

LunaFortuna · 24/02/2019 18:51

Mine have Barking Heads - both seem to enjoy and there poos have been much better since they have been on it. They have the wet food with a little bit of kibble for lunch. Neither like the lamb version.

cjpark · 24/02/2019 19:04

Ours have Bella and duke raw food. They love it, firm poos and good coat. Except on Sunday when they have a roast!

Fourmagpies · 24/02/2019 20:58

Mine is on Akela. We use mainly dry (the salmon one) but also a tin of wet a day. He's 6 months and a border collie so still eating a fair amount at the moment. I sometimes do scrambled eggs at lunchtime for a change which he loves.

ferretface · 24/02/2019 21:46

Half Bella and Duke raw, half Skinner's and Fish4dogs dry. Like a PP we try to mix and match the protein source to avoid allergies developing.

Treats and training treats wise he gets a real mix as part of his daily overall ration. Beef tendon chews, trachea (not too often as fatty), compressed fish skins, Kong with pumpkin puree or fish pate, chicken, and small quantities of the trashy chicken hotdog sausages :) at night he has a lily's bedtime biscuit which is a cue that it's time to sleep now.

flipflop67 · 24/02/2019 21:54

My two crossbreed rescue dogs have Langhams dry food from Aldi with a tin of mackerel mixed through once a day in the evening.

Old dog is 15 and going strong so we must be doing something right. Smile

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 24/02/2019 22:46

We are very similar to @ ferretface...natural instinct raw in the morning, Gentle cold pressed dry in the evening. Treats are plain boiled chicken or turkey, bit of tinned mackerel, dried tripe chews and kongs stuffed with raw turkey mince...but always a Lily’s bedtime biscuit or it just wouldn’t be bedtime😬🐶
My girl doesn’t do well with pigs ears or trachea though, she loves them but they do not love her!

JustBeingJobless · 28/02/2019 00:27

My 11yo used to be raw fed but she just went off it. She now has a mixture of kibble and wet food - I tend to mix it up and buy different brands every time I get a new bag else she gets bored - and she’s currently on Forthglade cold pressed dry and either Forthglade, Rocco, Collards or Naturediet wet food. She also likes AATU, Eden, Orijen, Simpsons and Akela.

MissKittyBeaudelais · 01/03/2019 20:36

We’ve tried a few things. We currently feed Trophy Pet Food. It’s the only one that’s settled her tummy and she no longer clears the room in 5 seconds, following aromatic wind letting 😁

Wishiwasrunning2 · 02/03/2019 11:36

Bella and Duke raw Smile

drinkswineoutofamug · 02/03/2019 17:00

Tried flo on all different food when we got her. Settled with tails. She licks the bowl clean. She also has home cooked. Tried her with Aldi's own and she didn't like it. She put the desired weight on, glossy coat and is healthy.

PutyourtoponTrevor · 02/03/2019 19:47

Millie's here too, either tracker or highland mix, plus Wainwright's light wet mixed in

missyB1 · 02/03/2019 19:56

Lily’s Kitchen wet and dry. Expensive but she’s a fussy little princess!

Ellsye · 03/03/2019 14:21

We feed our Lab Ellie on Burns, was recommended to me when she was a pup, she's 12 now and still loves it Smile

WiggleButt · 04/03/2019 11:51

Another on Millie's - we have a bag of countryside and a bag of obedience mix for a bit of variety. WigglePup can't get enough! He's also partial to a frozen carrot, parnsip, and broccoli, and gets salmon or mackerel mixed in to his food on a weekend.

Cath2907 · 04/03/2019 15:38

Mine eats a variety of high quality kibbles with James Wellbeloved being the staple. He doesn't like wet dog food - no matter how high quality. I've not really got into raw although do consider it occasionally. He has a variety of additional items like egg, chicken and rice, raw veggies, etc..

He also enjoys loo roll inners, plastic, shoes, poo (horse, sheep, rabbit, bird, cow), barbie appendages, dead birds, dead mice, coffee, abandoned street corner saturday night kebab, my skirting boards.... The list of "non-food" items he will eat is endless however he is proper fussy about what goes in his normal meals!

snowone · 04/03/2019 15:44

Another one for raw diet here......I can't recommend it enough!!
