I seem to have fallen off the thread too. Shock I think I stopped getting new post notifications.

SquirrelDog woke me up at 4am yesterday crashing round the bedroom ‘killing’ his squeaky furry red snake. When he saw I was awake he was very pleased and brought it to me to play tug with him. Hmm He then was very tired at normal getting up time. Serves him right.

drinkswineoutofamug · 22/06/2019 09:39

Morning my fellow slave. Well mugdog is back on top form. She pinched a sausage and spectacularly vomited it back up all over my kitchen floor, got her in the garden for her to vomit again. She then starts woofing at me as if it was my fault! No incidents since.
avocados had the same issue. I have to now make out that mugdog is a demon dog ( not too much of a lie) to stop people from just walking up and attempting to stroke her. My friends daughter wants to meet her and I've had to say no as I don't want any accidents. Really hard but has to be done.

BiteyShark · 22/06/2019 12:38

Is it bad Squirrel that I am secretly pleased that I don't have the only dog that has nocturnal episodes Grin

Bloody spaniels! Grin

BiteyDog has finally gone back to sleeping through the night. When I say sleeping, he often gets up, adjusts position and slides down my back to make sure he is as close as physically possible. Ironically this is still giving me far more sleep than when he used to clip clop about the floor at night Hmm. Shame I sometimes wake up to him on his back with his legs in the air and his bottom near my face Shock

Ddog has got a bit of a limp on today - though, as before when she was limping, it's only after she's been lying down. She totally overdid it yesterday so not sure if it's that... already had one vet's trip this week for an ear infection... could really do without another!

I took her for a long walk yesterday knowing that she's not going to get a proper walk all this week (temperatures from today between 34-38 even up at this altitude Shock until next Monday). She spotted something in the forest and was making her hunting squeaking nose (we used to think this was distress yelping... have now wised up to the fact it's her chasing deer/foxes/mamottes noise). Went off for AGES, ignoring my calls completely, and was totally wiped out when she eventually came back to me - panting like a mad thing, had to lie down on the path, drank bowl after bowl of my drinking water til the whole litre bottle was empty. Managed to get her down to the nearby river so she could cool off and get her heart rate down... and then once recovered, the mad thing wanted to go again!!! Had to put her on the lead for a while to force her to slow down as she has no self-control or common sense whatsoever.

Squirrel26 · 25/06/2019 11:38

SquirrelDog did that soon after I got him - took him for a quick walk in the woods on a hot afternoon, accidentally unclipped the wrong end of the double ended lead, and he pissed off. Had no idea where he was for about half an hour, then I could hear him crashing about in the undergrowth, then he popped up but wouldn’t let me get within about 10 meters. In the end I pretended to walk away, then turned round and literally rugby tackled him to the ground. Had to take him to the emergency vet as he had a

small graze cut right under his eye and I couldn’t tell how deep it went. He was too tired to even jump onto the back seat of the car, drank several bowls of water at the vets, then threw it up all over their waiting room floor. Vet said his face was fine, but they would wash it with some water, to make sure. £280 please.

What a tit. (SquirrelDog, not the vet. Grin)

distantdog · 25/06/2019 14:18

Ddog is totally sulking today about not having a proper walk (she had a very short one first thing and will get a short one when the sun goes down) despite the self-inflicted limp + heat stroke/exhaustion. But oh blimey Squirrel - £280!!!

Ddog's visit to the vet at the weekend was thankfully only €40-odd because we were really stupid and didn't think about the fact that she throws up on the way home from the vet's (bendy mountain road) every single time - so we paid the vet to feed her pills wrapped up in dog treats that immediately ended up on her car blanket and straight into the washing machine. Hmm

Purplecatshopaholic · 25/06/2019 22:34

I wonder so much what PurplecatDog dreams. He barks (well it’s more of a yip) and growls in his sleep. He barely barks in RL and never growls. He also twitches like he is chasing squirrels. He also farts but that’s another story...

Squirrel26 · 26/06/2019 05:55

I think it was £250 just for turning up at the vet on a Saturday afternoon and the rest for the washing his cut and probably for mopping up the waiting room floor. Luckily mostly covered by insurance, as they don’t consider ‘being a tit’ a pre-existing condition!

GrinThank god for that otherwise we would be penniless Grin

Grin Tbf though I unclipped the wrong bit of lead so it’s lucky they don’t also exclude ‘owner being a tit.’

BiteyShark · 28/06/2019 16:41

How's everyone coping with the weather if you are in a hot area?

BiteyDog is clearly glad of the air con unit we purchased a few months ago but it's so noisy we have to turn it off just before we go to sleep.

OP posts:
distantdog · 29/06/2019 05:41

Well it's 6.30 am here and I'm knackered as coudn't fall asleep until 2 am (non-heat related - had a minor op and the general anesthetic always messes up my sleep patterns for a few days) but I'm up, can't sleep, and it's a beautiful 18 degrees outside so Ddog is going to get a walk shortly before the 30+ degrees hits in! Yesterday she only got 2 x 25 minutes strolls to the dip in the stream as it was just too hot for everyone - so pleased the weather is going back to the 20s from Monday onwards!

That's good that you've got aircon Bitey.

BiteyShark · 29/06/2019 06:13

Hope you feel better soon distant. Lack of sleep is rubbish Sad. Enjoy your walk.

After last years heatwave where we all suffered we decided to get a portable air con unit. I think we might upgrade to a permanent one next year as it definitely makes it bearable.

No walks for us today as BiteyDog has the groomers and it will be too warm afterwards. However, he won't be bothered because DH plans to cook him chicken on the BBQ later Grin

OP posts:
BiteyShark · 29/06/2019 06:36

BiteyDog has an anal gland problem again as he has just been biting his arse and now he stinks Sad.

OP posts:
distantdog · 29/06/2019 07:55

ah poor Bitey (and poor you for the stink!) - is there no permanent solution to his bum problem?

Well that was actually a really bloody lovely walk. I am most definitely NOT a morning person but got to the top of the hill just as the sun was coming up over Mont Blanc and thought "gosh, I really should do this more often"! It's the first time in a week Ddog has had the chance to properly run as well, and she needed it (not least as my sister has been here dogsitting whilst DH and I have done our hospital trips and she has fed her an enormous amount of treats)! It's worked though, and it is so lovely to see Ddog allowing someone else to properly stroke and cuddle her - she has never let anyone else get so close.

It's coming up to 9am and it's mid-20s already so was definitely the right decision to get Ddog up and out so early.

BiteyShark · 29/06/2019 08:22

I love walks like that when it just makes you feel happy with nature all around you watching a happy dog.

BiteyDogs glands issue is unfortunately just another thing we will have to manage probably for his whole life Sad

OP posts:
Squirrel26 · 29/06/2019 09:37

I intended to get SquirrelDog out and walked early but, um, it didn’t quite happen. (I really love walking very early in the morning, but unfortunately I am not a morning person. It’s tough to be me. Grin )

Luckily my house is an old cottage and the kitchen floor is tiled, so it stays pretty cool even when it’s hot outside, plus the garden is in shade quite a bit of the day. Think I’m going to take him for a walk by the stream though, so he can get in and out.

Squirrel26 · 29/06/2019 11:44

Just dragged the fan (which is massive and awkward) out of the conservatory and put it on in the living room for SquirrelDog. He’s chosen to be in a different room. There’s gratitude for you. Hmm

BiteyShark · 29/06/2019 12:09

Grin at SquirrelDog.

I find BiteyDog generally ungrateful for anything I do Angry. Currently he is sulking because not only has he had most of his fur cut off but I won't throw the ball for him as it's too hot and he's too stupid to keep cool.

Squirrel26 · 29/06/2019 12:27

Just been ‘helped’ to change the bedsheets by a dog lying down in the middle of the mattress and refusing to move. So I got the nail grinder thing out. That shifted him pretty quickly. Grin

distantdog · 29/06/2019 13:50

I so want to meet SquirrelDog - such a character Grin

Squirrel26 · 29/06/2019 14:06

No one could accuse him of lacking character! It makes up for some of his other...quirks. Grin

BiteyShark · 29/06/2019 14:22

I find the Hoover has the same effect as the nail grinder Grin

Can you imagine the carnage if we got all the MN dogs in one place given all their 'quirks' HmmGrinShock
