Well Ddog and I only managed 4 km today as the weather is horrible. After a sunny morning it started raining within minutes of us setting off, getting heavier as we went along, so much so that when we emerged from the shelter of the forest it was in fact Ddog who wanted to run back down the hill to home rather than me, and she usually likes the wet! She made the right call, though, as a few minutes later there was a big rumble of thunder and I do not fancy being up the mountain in a lightning storm.

It's only a 15:45 here in June and I've just had to switch the lamps on inside as it's so gloomy! Got another day of this then it's back to sunshine thankfully.

BiteyShark · 11/06/2019 18:57

BiteyDog hates the rain as well. I am hoping summer kicks in again soon here.

The neighbourhood cat has been tormenting him tonight. He almost tore the window blinds off the wall trying to get at it Shock

Had to drag mugdog for a walk today. If looks could kill 😒 she kept shooting me sideways glances.
Vets tomorrow for her rabies jab. Starting the ball rolling. Last conversation with the vet regarding passport and brexit was clear as mud. They ( the vets) keep being advised differently, so they said if I at least get her rabies and blood test done then she can either a) have a passport but it won't be much use after September (?) or she will be issued with a travel health certificate. Does that make sense to anyone else?

distantdog · 11/06/2019 21:16

She will have to be chipped too (if she hasn't been already). Ddog came to us with a passport already, but we are in the EU27 and were thinking in February that we might want to travel to the UK in May (after the envisaged March 31st exit). The vet here, as in the UK, kept being given different advice but said that to be sure to be able to travel it was best to treat DDog as you would a pet from "a third country" (i.e. a country outside of the EU). This meant we had to get her a blood test to prove she was clear of rabies (despite the fact she'd already been vaccinated before she travelled to us from a different EU27 country) 3 months in advance of travel date.

I guess if you want to travel with mugdog before October 31st, it's still worth getting everything done and getting the pasport (which I think is £60 on top of the jabs etc. she'd have to get done anyway) and then - if the UK does leave on hallowe'en (though is looking unlikely) hope they come to some sort of agreement... though given the fact they've not sorted this out for EU national humans in the UK and vice versa, who knows?!

Squirrel26 · 11/06/2019 21:29

SquirrelDog has a Spanish passport. I hope he isn't going to be deported if when we leave the EU. I do make quite significant contributions to various small and large businesses on his behalf though, so maybe he'll be allowed to stay. Grin

drinkswineoutofamug · 11/06/2019 21:38

I was getting confused with the blood test bit. The gov.uk site i read , if correctly, that she only needs a blood test if coming from a unlisted country , but yes my vet is saying for her to have one done as well. Does that slow the process down? We are looking at going to France maybe end of July

drinkswineoutofamug · 11/06/2019 21:39

And yes she is chipped, jabs up to date so is worming etc

distantdog · 11/06/2019 22:02

We were told "unlisted" (i.e. third country) needs the blood test 3 months in advance, but you won't need that if travelling late July because the UK won't have a PM much before then, let alone a plan.

drinkswineoutofamug · 12/06/2019 09:03

Phones vets to make appointment, they will phone me back to see if the time line is feasible as yes, she may need a blood test.

distantdog · 12/06/2019 10:11

Interested to hear what you find out - I find it a bit weird to say that she might need a blood test as UK is still in the EU and will still be in the EU in July and August no matter what. Won't get a new PM until July and then parliament goes on holiday until September - no one's going to get a deal through before the summer holidays are over.

I double checked and it is definitely 3 months wait after the blood test for non EU countries.

drinkswineoutofamug · 12/06/2019 11:08

Vet phoned, they advised to speak to defra. So called them who said atm dogs can travel within eu without the blood test . But if we are away and Britain leaves the eu before October with no deal , dog would be stuck in quarantine and not allowed back in the country.
Their take on it is the new prime minister can take us out of the eu with out a deal before October. Do they know something we don't 😂
So if dog has jab , we will possibly need the blood test then can't travel for 4 months after blood test. Or risk it .

drinkswineoutofamug · 12/06/2019 11:10

Sorry distant didn't read all of your post. Yes good for thought regarding the parliamentary summer break. They won't give that up would they .

drinkswineoutofamug · 12/06/2019 11:33

We go vets at 3:30

distantdog · 12/06/2019 12:05

I would "risk" it (I really don't think it's a risk, though can see why defra feel obliged to say that). The only way we're leaving without a deal is if no deal is sorted by 31st of October AND the EU decide they've had enough of us and don't give a further extension. Not even Dominic Raabies is going to be able to see mugdog left in quarantine! You would not get less than 48 hours notice of a change in UK status, so if the really bloody unlikely actually happened, you'd just have to cut the holiday short and come home.

OR - mugdog can come and live with us for a while! Grin

drinkswineoutofamug · 12/06/2019 12:38

Where about in France are you? It's our 2nd choice for buying a property, but all the houses we have seen are in boarded up villages

distantdog · 12/06/2019 13:04

Ah, well we are in the Alps, and DH is a certified and bilingual agent so if you are interested in buying in the Alps let me know!

distantdog · 12/06/2019 13:07

We also have numerous dog-friendly apartments to hire out and I'm now loving the idea of providing a pet hotel for 3 months for Brexit-stranded dogs Grin

drinkswineoutofamug · 12/06/2019 13:13

Our canine guests are always less hassle than human ones... I'm going to suggest this to DH Wink

drinkswineoutofamug · 12/06/2019 17:10

Jab done. It was a locum vet who was lovely. She called herself a fluffy vet as she got on the floor to play with dog first, few treats etc. Dog didn't even know she had the jab as she was being played with at the same time! Passport to be collected in 3 weeks as normal vet is on his jollies.
Vet thought dog was beautiful but easily startled so recommend a muzzle, and that we may need one in France on the camp site (?) gave me tips on putting meat paste in it and train her to wear one. Dog then pissed off that she had been tricked with treats and belly rubs 😂

bluetongue · 13/06/2019 09:39

Fluffy vet sounds lovely Smile

Bluepuppy is stressing me out at the moment Sad He’s a lovely dog but if I’m being completely honest probably not entirely compatible with my lifestyle.

I’ve upped his walks and off lead time in the last week but if anything his energy levels seem to have gone up Shock Think I need to start taking him to daycare more regularly to take the edge off his craziness.

He’s not going anywhere but days like today I do think maybe I should have just got another cat instead.

BiteyShark · 13/06/2019 11:40

blue I find the more I do with BiteyDog in terms of walking the more he needs. A trainer did warn me once that it's very easy to over walk so the dog gets fitter and fitter and you need to walk more and more to supposedly tire them.

Maybe try one good off lead walk for an hour a day then do mental stimulation later instead.

Totally relate to this. BiteyDog is one spoilt dog but I honestly don't think I could do it again so he may be our only ever dog.

I know what you mean about the fitness thing Bitey. He seems to build up fitness very quickly and has an insane metabolism.

Some of my issues are also because I live by myself so it’s not like I have anyone to share dog duties with. My dad does walk him once every week or so but everything day to day is all up to me.
