Aw thanks Bitey - love my boy to bits

Well done to Purplecatdog Smile

Don’t worry about ruining Muppetpup. Recall with whippets can be hard but it’s great you’re working on it so early. I used lots of super high value treats to help me train recall with Bluepuppy. If I’m going to the beach with him I’ll still take some treats just to make sure he comes back.

It’s been a mixed week with the wounded Bluepuppy. Wednesday was great, I walked him before work (in my work clothes, neighbours must think I’m mad Grin ) and he went to the toilet so could leave him inside while I went to work for a short day. No accidents when I got home and he was happy (he usually has a dog door to a secure back garden).

Then Thursday morning it was raining. He went out and walked with his coat on but absolutely refused to go to the toilet. Panic set in! I realised I had three options. Take another day off work, leave him inside but probably come home to toilet messes and an unhappy dog or send him to daycare.

In the end I rang daycare and they were able to have him and keep him quiet. He wasn’t happy while I was still there though and I’m sure he could pick up on my anxiety. Apparently he was fine once I was gone.

Friday it wasn’t raining and my dad was able to come over during the day and I did a normal length day at work. Only three more work days of this to go.

I really don’t think I could have a dog in a flat with no garden. Well done to those who manage it Smile

BiteyShark · 12/05/2019 06:39

blue, so glad the end is in sight. Keeping them calm is so hard.

BiteyDog has been like a different dog since letting him sleep on the bed at night. No getting up, no ear flapping, no early morning pees. It was the one place we didn't want him to sleep on but the pros far outweigh the cons and DH and I aren't walking about like tired zombies anymore.

Bitey, have you heard the saying ‘you don’t own a spaniel, you wear one’? Grin

BiteyShark · 12/05/2019 13:55

Haha yes that's about right Grin

We're just back from a weekend away, with DH's sister & BIL dogsitting GrouchyPuppy, and apparently she was perfectly behaved! No barking at everything in the garden, she hadn't woken by 8:30am when they got up this morning, and she has been calm and sweet. I'm a bit miffed; I'd like to see some of this behaviour. Wink I guess it's like when children behave well for everyone else but horribly for their Mums.

She was delighted to see us when we got home and is now sleeping happily near me.

BiteyShark · 12/05/2019 17:44

Grouchy they are little terrors aren't they, but they make up for it with their waggy tails welcoming you home Grin

She's very cuddly right now, which means I'm covered in slobber and being reminded of how heavy 40kg really is. Grin

Squirrel26 · 13/05/2019 12:42

So. Boarding.
Usually when I go away SquirrelDog stays with one of his trainers. Which is great, but there’s only one of her and sometimes she’s booked up. I’m thinking of trying out someone else close to me as a back up. The only thing is it’s really close to me, like 5 minutes walk. I’m wondering if that would be confusing for SquirrelDog? Would he wonder why he’s near home, but not actually at home? Or would he actually not care and I’m just overthinking? (Surely not...)

drinkswineoutofamug · 13/05/2019 17:18

Mugdog went for her boosters today. Is it normal for them to be out of sorts after? Heat isn't helping her and she hardly eaten but drank lots. She got poked and prodded and nearly bit the vet when he checked her anal glands Shock
She's in fine health and a totally different dog who now weighs 14.2kgs not 12kg.

BiteyShark · 13/05/2019 18:10

Squirrel I wouldn't be put off with them being close except if they walk him offlead close by. It always helps to have a back up so maybe a 24 hours board to try it out?

drinkswine I think lots of dogs are out of sorts after any vet visit let alone one where they have had vaccinations. I don't even walk BiteyDog when he goes to the vets or even the groomers as it's stressful enough so he gets to rest.

That’s what I’m thinking, Bitey. They do walking and daycare too, so it would be good to have a back up dog walker as well (mine needs an operation on her knee at some point in the future, I know). He can’t be trusted off lead anyway, so no chance of him taking himself off home.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 14/05/2019 11:03

Good job I have nice neighbours and a fairly easy going attitude.

Neighbours in same building know that PestDog likes their dog if they meet in the park, but is a bit territorial about my home and the shared hallway.

It probably wasn't wise to let their dog bound across the hallway just as I was trying to take PestDog inside. I should probably have managed to shut the front door faster than I did. Next thing I know, there's a case of handbags at dawn and my leg gets bitten in the melee - caught in the crossfire rather than intentional. Just a couple of puncture marks and a bruise, nothing serious. No idea who did it (and tbh I'm not sure it matters too much) but I'm hoping they'll check first in future before letting their dog run around the hallway Hmm

BiteyShark · 14/05/2019 11:33

Oh no Avocados hope your legs aren't too bruised and battered Sad.

Bloody dog. Up at 4am this morning. Let him out, let him back in. Went back to bed (because 4am). Woken just before 7 by him running round the bedroom joyfully chewing on the pump for my exercise ball. Discover that he’s also overturned the washing basket, pulled all the books off the bookshelf and had a good chew on ‘The Murder Room’ by PD James (which I think actually belongs to one of my parents...let’s hope they’ve forgotten about that) and retrieved the kitchen scissors from the dining room table and chewed off the plastic handles. Shock

I wouldn’t mind, but my house is literally strewn with dog-appropriate items for chewing on. Angry

Oooo SquirrelDog has outdone himself today Grin. Sending WineBrew and Cake to you Squirrel.

Bloody hell, BiteyDog decided 3am was a good time for a pee last night. We had let him on the bed to stop the early morning waking. I will be having stern words with him tonight Angry

BiteyDog is off to the groomers today so he won't be pleased as he will smell nice Grin

PurplecatDog has been having a ball in the nice weather. Moulting like crazy though! Currently snoozing at my feet, bless him

BiteyShark · 18/05/2019 09:55

BiteyDog is moulting a bit as well.

I have been enjoying the better weather but today is very grey Sad

Bluepuppy went to the beach today for a run as it’s meant to be raining tomorrow. Then I spent more on dog food for the week than I did on human food Shock

He’s all healed up now and no more cone of shame. Fingers crossed he manages to keep himself out of trouble for a while.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 18/05/2019 11:15

I unwisely left the back door open at DF's house, as somehow the bodge job on the inadequate fencing hadn't been breached for weeks (this normally just results in him getting into the remarkably tolerant NDNs garden). Realised I hadn't seen him for a few minutes, called him and he turned up wagging his tail on the driveway Angry

After putting him back in the garden and watching him like a hawk to find the new security breach, it turns out he's been climbing tree branches and getting out that way Shock I knew I shouldn't have taught him doggy parkour as an enrichment activity Confused

BiteyShark · 18/05/2019 12:42

blue glad bluepuppy is all healed Smile.

Omg Avocados, what an escape artist Shock

Climbing tree branches!

It's raining here so GrouchyPuppy is very happily tromping around outside and leaving big muddy footprints all over the house. I was going to mop today but will leave it till it's dry again.

QueenOfDarts · 18/05/2019 15:51

Hello! I was looking for a puppy support thread but couldn't find an ongoing one; do you mind if I join in here?

So, have had DPup for 6 days. She is very sweet. Toilet training feels a bit random - I put her out in the back garden a lot so mostly she goes out there, but never in the same spot. I'd like her to wee or poo on the patio part rather than the grass, but having no luck with that.

She's a bit jumpy and nippy with the children but otherwise lovely and sleeps a lot. It really is like having a newborn - lots of feeding, cuddling and cleaning. However even though she loves running round the garden and is always so pleased to see me first thing in the morning or if I've gone out and she's been with DH & DC, I'm slightly guiltily wishing that she could do more at the moment and was a bit more interactive Blush I'm trying to teach her sit and fetch and paw but she's not that interested.
