Do you as a dog owner ever pick up other dogs poo?

Walking madam last night and came across a big pile of poo.

It was opposite a children's nursery and behind a secondary school so a big rush area for kids.

I would be furious if my children walked through it, so I picked it up and put it in the bin.

I had a spare bag and it didn't take me 10 seconds.

I can't understand why a responsible dog owner won't pick up their own dogs poo. I refuse to let others suffer for people's own laziness

It's not the first time I've done this and I doubt it will be the last

Not only other peoples dog poo, but the bottles, cans and wrappers left behind. This morning I picked up two broken wing mirrors, one in the road, one on the pavement. I'm getting a bit bored with it all - especially by the local school where the parents fling the kids snack food wrapper down by the bins. This school has a large banner on the fence telling people to pick up after their dogs. Last week was the school fair, and there was an extra banner advertising that - when they took it down they just cut the plastic ties, and left them on the pavement. Such a fine example to all

Oh that would make me cross

I shouted at a bunch of kids the other week.

They had pulled a scooter out of a skip and were smashing it to bits on the road.

I said to my Dh "I bet the leave that on the road" so I went out and shouted across "I hope you will pick all that up before you go"

The replied that of course they would but I just know they wouldn't have done if I hadn't had said anything

They did pick it up and moved on very quickly.

My Dh said I shouldnt have said anything but it makes me so cross

I do fairly often. We live next to the village green, its used lots for dog walking and because of where we live we see dogs poo and their owners not pick it up. Ive offered poo bags and been given a mouthful a few times! I pick up what I see when I'm out with my own dog, my dd practices her gymnastics there so it really makes my blood boil- it would even if she didn't, I think its so irresponsible and disrespectful. I also pick up rubbish left lying around as does a neighbour.

FairfaxAikman · 26/06/2018 16:57

Yes.

Recently a local blind man. I know they are exempt from picking up but the arse has let the dog go on the side of the path with the football pitches on it and where children were audibly playing (it was a big organised event, the other side is a small section of grass which would have been more appropriate).

While doing that I found another three.

Makes me so mad - I have three labs, each of which is capable of producing something the size of their own heads (occasional double-baggers) so if I can pick up anyone can.

Worst offenders round our way are you-breed owners. I think they must feel it's a waste of a bag or something.

CMOTDibbler · 26/06/2018 16:57

Yes, we call them karma poos

Pippylou · 26/06/2018 16:59

I occasionally pick up bagged dog poo as tossed bags drive me potty. Particularly next to/near a bin or out in the country, where it'll never be picked up and the bag will never rot.

Also pick up rubbish a bit...

I really, really struggle to understand why people go to all the trouble of bagging it and then toss it at the first opportunity?

Saucery · 26/06/2018 17:00

No, I’m afraid I don’t. It absolutely turns my stomach, when picking my own dog’s up doesn’t (and I do that every single time).

Soubriquet · 26/06/2018 17:05

Yes why pick it up, bag it and then throw it down.

It's not ideal, but it's better to leave the poo that will biodegrade naturally instead of a plastic bag

MaMisled · 26/06/2018 17:13

Litter yes, other dogs pooh absolutely not.

TeeBee · 26/06/2018 17:26

Nope, picking up my own dog's poo is grim enough, certainly not doing it on behalf of someone else. Their dog, their mess.

Soubriquet · 26/06/2018 17:30

I used to work in a rescue kennels so that's probably why I'm not too fussed at picking up other dogs poo

I do if it is right by where my dog has been, what's the point in ignoring it if you've stopped are bending down to collect your own dog's? I don't stop our walk to pick up random poop but my dog is slightly reactive so I prefer to keep him moving, he's generally calmer when we're moving.

WeAllHaveWings · 26/06/2018 23:59

Only when checking the footie pitch before a game

TooTrueToBeGood · 27/06/2018 00:10

Yes. I often walk my dog on an area popular with kids playing football. In the summer it's not too bad but when the darker nights come in it can be dogshit city. On a bad night i can bag up 10+ shits that didn't come out my mutt.

Cath2907 · 27/06/2018 14:00

If it is on the path and I know I am likely to step in it at a later date then yes. I also pick up litter. I came home with an improvised bag made of a towel and full of litter!

IslaBoots · 27/06/2018 18:26

TalkThe doghouse

Do you as a dog owner ever pick up other dogs poo?

No! Cold dog poo is disgusting...as we all know! I ALWAYS pick up after my own dogs . I gather a lot of litter from humans tho. Esecially at the beach during the few sunny days we have.

I'm always glad to see the end of summer when dog walkers can have the beach back... And sea life won't have to suffer from human waste.

JurassicAdventure · 27/06/2018 18:33

The Parish council at my parents' house have made a bylaw that you get an on the spot fine if you walk past a dog poo with a dog (it is assumed that your dog did it).
They also provide free poo bags.

(However they have no real way of enforcing it)

PickAChew · 27/06/2018 18:36

I'm not a dog owner and will pick up dog's poo from near my house. It's easier than cleaning it off the floor when one of the boys inevitably wades through it.

dudsville · 27/06/2018 18:38

Like others, litter yes, poo no.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 27/06/2018 18:40

I do.

Most dog owners I know do, too.

Pixiegirl76 · 27/06/2018 18:41

Absolutely not, whilst im happy to pick up my 2 little muppets poos,I wouldent pick up anybody elses,I live near a park, and people use my black bin too to put poos in.!Its nasty

agedknees · 27/06/2018 18:58

Yes, all too often I’m afraid. Does my head in, lazy dog owners.

Toooldtobearsed · 27/06/2018 19:04

Ohhh, I dont. I will pick up all sorts of shit and bin it, but not other dogs crap.

Thinking about it logically, it is ridiculous. I have two of my own I pick up after, but their poo is compact and solid. Easy to pick up. Other dogs? Not so much 🤐

Having said that, i walk in woodland and through country fields in the main, so very rarely see any offensive poos. Maybe it would be different on pavements. I am sure it would 😶

OrchidInTheSun · 27/06/2018 19:05

Yes, if I think other people are going to step in it

snowy1982 · 27/06/2018 19:10

Like a pp said, if I notice another dogs poo close to where my dogs have gone I will pick it up when bagging theirs, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to lift another dogs poo
