Do you as a dog owner ever pick up other dogs poo?

Soubriquet · 26/06/2018 16:38

Walking madam last night and came across a big pile of poo.

It was opposite a children's nursery and behind a secondary school so a big rush area for kids.

I would be furious if my children walked through it, so I picked it up and put it in the bin.

I had a spare bag and it didn't take me 10 seconds.

I can't understand why a responsible dog owner won't pick up their own dogs poo. I refuse to let others suffer for people's own laziness

It's not the first time I've done this and I doubt it will be the last

Yes I do if I have a spare bag, we live opposite a big public green, if I see it I pick it up.

picklemepopcorn · 27/06/2018 19:32

Definitely. Mainly if it is on a pavement or path, though.

Also pick up litter, though not all litter.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 27/06/2018 19:34

Yes I do - we live next to a big open park and I pick them up. Firstly as it’s the right thing to do and secondly, maybe I have missed the odd poo in the pay if I haven’t noticed and so it makes me feel better!

I also pick up litter

I hope to go to heaven

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 27/06/2018 20:30

We are very rural, so we pick up in any field which will have livestock in it, on public footpaths around the village where we are blessed with good bins, not in the woods where I feel it will biodegrade quicker ...I haven’t picked up other dog poos. Because of the bins it is not too much of a problem but I must admit I hate seeing dog poo in fields where sheep and cows rotate around are and maybe I will pick it up to be a good citizen.

BitOfFun · 29/06/2018 06:06

God, no. Quite happy to pick my own dog's up, doesn't bother me at all, but to me it's like the difference between changing your own baby's nappy and somebody else's- just NOPE.

Candyflip · 29/06/2018 06:33

All the time. I walk him the same route very late at night so would hate to walk through it when I can’t see it. Also my arsehole of a dog sometimes runs into the undergrowth to shit, it takes me ages to find it (warm)so I pick up loads of cold shit before finding his!

InfiniteSheldon · 29/06/2018 06:39

Yes as do most dog owners I know and I pick.up litter after the school run it's shocking round here

Flippetydip · 29/06/2018 16:08

I always try and pick up three pieces of litter when I'm out but I'm afraid only once have I picked up someone else's dog's crap - when it was right outside the school, as in right in the middle of the pavement, right in front of the entrance gate. Seriously, who does that?

NotARegularPenguin · 29/06/2018 16:21

I don't think that parish council could enforce their rule about having to pick poo up rather than walk past it if you have a dog. Id insist on a dna test at their expense.

No, I don't pick up other dog's poo.

HyacinthsBucket70 · 29/06/2018 16:26

We're having real issues with our village cricket pitch/play field at the moment. The neighbouring much larger village has banned all dogs from theirs, so now they all drive to ours, let their dogs shit everywhere and drive home again Angry. I must have counted about 15 piles of poo this morning and picked up as many as my poo bags allowed. It's beyond disgusting and I can see our village doing the same.... all thanks to some people who shouldn't be allowed to own a pet. I only use it in summer to avoid long grass getting in my spaniel's ears.

Greenday49 · 29/06/2018 16:29

Yes, if I's in a path or I feel others are likely to stop in it. There have been times where I couldn't pick up my dogs poo (if she's done it in a huge puddle for example) or if I couldn't find it. I can see the karma poo theme :)

Greenday49 · 29/06/2018 16:31

And as PP said, if It's right next to where my Dog has gone I will too. Some areas have a real problem with people not doing it . I've often wondered why I bother!

Currywurstmitpommes · 29/06/2018 16:36

I’m so grateful to the lady who did this the other day outside DCs school.

Some twat had left a huge steaming dog turd outside the gates at pick up time ( yes Mrs Labrador I’m looking at you!) Something like 1000 kids walk up that road at that time. A lovely lady, who didn’t even have her dog with her, found a spare bag and did the deed.

It’s a pity that their are dog owners who can’t do this basic thing. But much good karma to the spare bag lady!

sweetboykit · 29/06/2018 16:43

I have. But I did exclaim to dh that another person walking his dog had watched the dog doing a poo and was walking away from it. It must have been louder than I expected as he came over and asked us for a poo bag!
I feel bad as my dog gets 'joggers trots' so at the end of the walk it's just mush. So it's really difficult to scrape it off the grass. I've split bags trying to get it all and then it goes up my finger nails.🤢

Greenday49 · 29/06/2018 16:43

It isnt the most pleasant task but it's not that bad and it's over in seconds. I don't understand some folk. It affects everyone, people who may stand in it, people who have to see it and other dog owners who are then given a bad name and graduallly may have fewer places where we can walk our dogs because we're all tarred with the same brush and not trusted to clean up.

QueenCity · 29/06/2018 16:59

@CMOTDibbler We call them karma poos too! Grin

lottsagain · 02/07/2018 09:48

No, but that's because he mostly gets walked in woods/fields and our neighbourhood is pretty immaculate in regards to poos.

Also, I'm only able to deal with my boy's poos because I love him, not sure I could extend that to other dogs.

BlueKarou · 02/07/2018 10:37

It depends where we are... In the woods - nope. In the dog walking field at work - yes. I know we have some assistance dogs on site, so not all the owners can pick it up (and yes, most of the time it's lazy dog owners, but I do it anyway.) In the dog walking field near the village park - sometimes. It depends how many bags I have, and whether I'm chasing a toddler around the field. I'm not squeamish about picking up other dogs' poo. I have two dogs of my own, plus most of my family have dogs, and then there's the toddler, so I'm fairly hardened to the whole poo thing - just grab it in the bag and tie it off - no fuss.

There's a communal grassy area where I live which is always covered in poo as at least one of the locals just lets his dogs out to poo and calls them back in without doing any tidy up. It would be an endless and thankless job to pick up after them, so I don't. I'm not brave/stupid enough to confront him about it, so I just don't plan on letting the kid/dogs out on that bit of grass. It's rarely mown by the council, so is probably filled with ticks half the time as well as all the poo.

knockknockknock · 02/07/2018 11:41

No. My dog is raw fed so does lovely small non stinky poos. The thought of having to pick up a kibble pile of shit makes me heave 🤢🤢

crazycatgal · 02/07/2018 23:43

No, I'm happy to pick up my own dogs poo but I don't like the idea of picking up mess from other dogs.

ADishBestEatenCold · 03/07/2018 00:19

"Recently a local blind man. I know they are exempt from picking up but the arse has let the dog go on the side of the path"

Not sure I understand what I'm reading here.

Are you actually calling a blind man an "arse", @FairfaxAikman, because his guide dog had a poo and the blind man left it there?

How did you expect this blind man to find the poo? On hands and knees, feeling about with his fingers? Or perhaps he should have sniffed it out?

echt · 03/07/2018 00:52

Always pick up all dog poos.

kelper · 04/07/2018 12:36

I had to the other week at a show because it looked like my dog had done it when she hadn't!! It was huge, and my dog is a whippet so quite small.
Also yesterday morning on my bloody driveway, some arsehole down the road has a dog and obviously walks it very early up the road off lead, its not the first time I've found dog poo on my drive, but I've no idea whose dog it is 😡

steppemum · 04/07/2018 12:47

not really.
Did it once the other day, as it was huge pile near the path where kids play.
Somehow though other dogs poo is more revolting than your own dog's poo!

I walk in a nature reserve, rough fields and woods. Then briefly across a large football pitch, properly mown and used many times per week.
I just cannot understand the dog poo on the football pitch. Why would you leave it where kids are about to play football? If you aren't going to pick up, walk them in the nature reserve at least then it is in the woods. Infuriating.

steppemum · 04/07/2018 12:53

@sweetboykit Can you explain what joggers trots are?

We haven't had our rescue long and he does proper poos at the beginning of his walk, and they get runnier as he goes along. I hadn't realise that him running around might affect his poo!
