I've booked BiteyDog into the groomers next week when hopefully he can be washed. His stomach looks awful being shaved obviously I don't really care how it looks as it saved his life and you can see it when he stands so she is going to have a job trying to feather that in so it's not as noticeable when it grows back.

I really need his paws trimming as they are too fluffy and trap the dirt. No way would I do it myself as he hates me handling his paws and is the biggest wriggler ever Grin

Having cocodog is a bit like having two dogs. Can see the poodle brain restraining the worst excesses of the spaniel hunting instinct out on a walk and can see the spaniel poking the naughty poodle into having a rest indoors before the next outing. We all know what the Labrador bit is contributing🌭🍕🍟🍴😁

noitsnotteatimeyet · 02/04/2018 14:09

Well he loved going swimming again - he was throwing himself into the river with such an expression of pure joy on his face that another dog walker going past said “how lovely to see a dog get so much enjoyment out of life!” Grin

Unfortunately all the excitement has fried his little brain - he normally curls up for a long sleep after his morning walk but today he’s been wandering around the house like a little lost soul with his favourite cuddly toy in his mouth Hmm.

Teatimetoller is well overdue at the groomers - his feet are so hairy now he looks like a Wookiee. He was supposed to go a while ago but then he got sick and wouldn’t have been able to get on the table. He’s now started blowing his coat so is looking particularly scruffy. He’s booked in for Thursday so we’ll have a few hours of him looking clean and tidy before normal service is resumed...

We are actually getting another puppy soonish (gulp) - dh always wanted a smooth collie but I got my way last time .... we’re just waiting for the litter we’re on the waiting list for to be born - the puppies are due this week - 😬

BiteyShark · 02/04/2018 18:24

notteatime so you will be flirting to the puppy survival thread soon Grin

girlsallgrowedup love your multiple personality Cocodog Grin. I think BiteyDog has found an unknown lab gene as he is eating like he's been starved for months Hmm

Flirting? I mean flitting Grin

Flirting, flitting whatever, you are very brave notteatime.
Love that furry coat pradaqueen, I love it when cocodog comes back from the groomers, every eight weeks...silky soft fur and a slinky outline. Soon ruined with mud and twigs. I do groom her every night but there is nothing like a professional groom. Should take that on board for myself😬
How is biteydog getting on?

BiteyShark · 02/04/2018 20:07

BiteyDog has his hair cut more than I do Grin.

He's actually seems fine now girlsallgrowedup. His scar looks good from what I can see and most of swelling and bruising has gone and he's eating lots and pooing ok. We have a vets appointment tomorrow so will be interesting to see if they agree. Really hoping that will be our final check up and we don't have to go back and we can start letting him run about more.

Fingers crossed, Bitey, but it sounds like he's doing really well!

SquirrelDog has never been to the groomer Blush I feel like a very neglectful mother!

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 02/04/2018 20:20

Bitey, sounds good, fingers crossed for vets appt tomorrow.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 02/04/2018 23:38

PestDog may have spent at least 2.5 hours this afternoon chasing the unusually abundant squirrels, magpies and crows in the local woods at about 100mph this afternoon. But apparently the fact that we didn't see many dogs means that it's completely sensible for him to be up and about at almost midnight Hmm

BiteyShark · 03/04/2018 07:25

That sounds tiring Avocados Grin

I'm sick of 'sleeping' all day and night. Can't wait to get back to a normal routine especially as I am comfort eating through boredom

Squirrel26 · 03/04/2018 07:53

That’s so annoying, isn’t it Avocados. SquirrelDog did that when we were away the other day, then got up at 6. Grrr.

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 03/04/2018 08:51

Avocados, perhaps you should get Pestdog a tv and then he can watch a dog channel while you sleep😃

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 03/04/2018 08:56

Am rather hoping we meet up with a doggy pal this morning, with this awful weather she isn’t spending as much time out in the garden as usual although we are doing longer walks to compensate.

punter · 03/04/2018 09:20

Hi haven't posted for a while. I now have 2 yellow labs, one is 5.5 and the other just a year. They are now best friends after a rocky start - usual puppy over playfulness - but at the moment we cannot invite people to sit down in our house! If I put the dogs in another room we get the plaintive barking and whining and then visiting family or friends say oh don't worry let them come and say hello! Then they jump on the couch and cover them with kisses etc etc. I am then a nervous wreck and DH just shouts at the dogs to get down. Not helpful. My grown up daughter did the right thing yesterday and insisted they got off before she would give any attention but they seem to forget and jump back up after a few minutes to go through the whole thing again. I have to admit they are allowed on the couches but they usually curl up next to me and settle well. I am obviously not very exciting. Anyone got any tips for their experiences?

BiteyShark · 03/04/2018 10:42

punter any chance visitors could greet the dogs calmly in another room so they aren't running in with excitement. Also could you reward them for staying off the couch and on the floor with treats?

Hopefully someone else will come along that has solved this.

thegirlsallgrowedupnow hope Cocodog has a good run around with her friends. I am officially sick of the rain now.

It sounds like a mass groom taking place on this thread this week. Eric is off to see "the ladies" too on Thursday. He is never impressed and sulks the minute he realises where he's going which makes me laugh. He goes to the groomers who groom aggressive dogs Shock because he wouldn't let the last one near him. These groomers laugh at that because he behaves impeccably and has always for them and so suspect the last one was rough with him Sad
He has become a bit of a favourite with them because he talks to them all the time he is there and he lets them know that we have got to the lane to pick him up by shrieking with joy long before the car is in sight. He then helps himself to a toy out of the shop that we end up having to buy and goes bonkers that we are picking him up.

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 03/04/2018 15:54

Punter, I think you need a couple of training strategies here. My elderly parents can’t be jumped all over so from an early age cocodog was taught to stay happily in the kitchen behind a stair gate with a Kong to keep her occupied. If I know friends are coming over then I walk her first so she is tired and then she comes into the living room from kitchen when guests are settled on lead to greet them and then I settle her in her basket. If she messes around I calmly pick the lead back up and walk her back out to the kitchen behind stair gate where she stays for 5 minutes and then we try again. First few occasions it took two or three goes but now often only one and she gets it. It also helps if you ask guests to ignore the dog unless it is calm. This is easier said than done! Cocodog is not yet two and still excitable around people but improving all the time. You have two dogs to train who presumably wind each other up. I would be tempted to leave one dog in another room with something tasty whilst training the other to be calm around guests and then swap over. The other thing that might be helpful is to teach both dogs to get on the sofa by invitation and off the sofa on command, you could practice this regularly and the staying quietly in another room with plenty of rewards for good behaviour.

Sorry pressed too early. Hope this helps, sometimes I wish my dog was more aloof😬

Hello all, been off line for a few days, so just catching up.

So pleased Bitey dog is on the mend.

I saw a great program about jumpy dogs the other day, it was one of the Me or the Dog series and there were 2 huge Old Enlgish Sheepdogs, ad they jumped all over visitors and also up on the people sitting on the couch. Cannot remember what she did, but it worked!

BiteyShark · 03/04/2018 18:52

Wooo hooo back from the vets. Don't need to go back again and the scar looks good.

He has been rubbing his backside on the rugs for the past week so he did need his anal glands emptying [boak] so he has just been bathed as he stunk in the car coming home Grin
