What, you let your dog sleep on your bed, how unhygienic Shock Just kidding, I have a whippet so I’m well versed in sacrificing my comfort for the dog.

Bluepuppy went for his annual jabs, checkup and to get the staples removed from his side today. Here in Australia we have to do heartworm protection and it’s either a case of giving it every month without fail or a once yearly injection which is expensive. I go for the injection so it doesn’t rely on me remembering.

I pointed out Bluepuppy’s recent stinky breath to the vet and she showed me the plaque buildup on his teeth so will need to start brushing them. Apart from that he got a clean bill of health Smile

Does anyone else’s dog shake when up on the examining table at the vet? It makes poor Bluepuppy look like a timid little thing when mostly he’s super confident with new people and situations.

BiteyShark · 09/06/2018 14:54

With all BiteyDogs vet issues he hates every minute on the examining table and positively tries to jump in my arms when they put their gloves on Sad

Glad to hear bluepuppy got a good bill of health.

Madam sleeps in bed with me too. If I don't close the stair gate she goes up there like a rocket as soon as it looks like I might be getting ready for bed. She will not stay downstairs.

Saying that she's very good. She gets herself comfortable and pretty much stays there all night. She's season at the moment so it's a little grim..

I've got to kick her out of bed in the morning. Honestly she could be bursting for a wee and she will still refuse to get out of bed.

bluetongue · 09/06/2018 22:23

Bluepuppy is actually fine with everything else about the vet. I wonder if he doesn’t like the cold, metal table. Will maybe ask if they can put something on the table net time to make it more comfortable.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 10/06/2018 01:59

I met someone in the park earlier with their 10 week old puppy running around (off lead!)

I've not had a puppy of my own, so I'm not entirely au fait with puppy vaccinations. Am I right in thinking that there's no way that puppy has completed its vaccinations and therefore it shouldn't be out?

BiteyShark · 10/06/2018 05:42

Mine was 11 weeks when he could go out because I asked the vet to split the vaccinations. Therefore he had his second at 10 weeks and I had to wait another week before he could walk on roads and non boggy or farm/wood land. At 12 weeks he had the L4 and it was a further 2 weeks before he could go in woods/farmland.

There are different types with different rules but I haven't heard earlier than what I did. However, I guess they may just be anti vaccination as I have seen a couple of people posting in the doghouse that puppies don't need vaccinations due to mothers antibiotics Shock

Squirrel I'm surprised you get any sleep. When I have slept with BiteyDog during his illnesses he is a right wriggle bottom but then sighs loudly if I move and wake him Grin.

I am quite hard to wake up once I’m asleep - I didn’t notice him shifting me round the other night!

Hi all
We have a five and a half month old golden retriever and the last few days she is teething massively. Does anyone have any tips for helping us through this phase?
Thank you!

Eeeeek it’s Puppy Day minus one .... I’m planning to give teatimetoller a really lovely day as it’s his last day as an Only Dog. He’s looking gorgeous as dd gave him a good groom yesterday and he had a fabulous time charging around after rabbit trails this morning. We’re going to Pets At Home later to get a last couple of puppy bits and I’ll let him choose a new toy and a chew. I’m feeling a bit guilty that I’m about to turn his world upside down (I felt this way about ds1 just before we had ds2). The cats can’t be much more disdainful than they already are with teatimetoller so I can’t see much changing for them - they tolerate him and occasionally unbend enough to let him sniff and gently lick them but every now and then they aim a paw swipe at him for no reason just to let him know they’re really in charge ...

BiteyShark · 10/06/2018 10:21

Hjb2410 I used to just let mine chew hard rope type toys and gave him ice cubes to chomp. I have seen other people give frozen carrots and stuff like that to help soothe the gums and teeth.

Oooh teatime the fun begins again then tomorrow Grin

Bloody hell I am unfit. Just made a small agility circuit in the garden of three jumps, a tunnel and a weave and I am shattered just guiding BiteyDog around it a few times.

Good luck teatime with new pup. Only time I ever had a pup with an older dog, the older...a black lab was brilliant at night soothing the pup to sleep. She would tell pup off when he was bothering her to play too much, came outside at first for every wee trip and did a pretend one to show him how and when it came to training pup she used to be at the top of the garden doing all the moves in the background. It was so funny. The only time she really hated him was in the car cos he was terribly carsick and she wanted to be as far away from him as possible. She was quite mischievous though and when pup grew up he was a solemn dignified little beast and then there was a role reversal. I really miss her still.😢

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 10/06/2018 16:01

I still haven’t got around to getting some agility jumps, Bitey. More for me to practice than cocodog though!

BiteyShark · 10/06/2018 16:08

thegirl I tend to only do it on sundays as it's something different to do other than throwing a ball Grin. Just done another small course and a couple of circuits and we are both knackered. It's a pain though having to clear it all away. I really wish I knew a farmer to rent a bit of unused land so it could be up all the time.

One of our trainers told us about 'doggie Parkour' where you just use whatever is around for your dog to climb on or jump over. Apparently you can train your dog to play 'the floor is lava', and there are videos of dogs leaping up onto fire hydrants etc to get off the ground when they here the trigger word.

In other news, SquirrelDog has So Many Toys. Why does he just want to chew on a coaster?? Aargh!

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 10/06/2018 19:51

@Squirrel we do that in the woods with fallen trees etc, though I didn't know anyone calls it doggy parkour!

Wolfiefan · 10/06/2018 20:15

Bitey my DH plays the lottery every week. He calls it the field lottery. If he wins he's buying us one! Grin

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 10/06/2018 20:16

Ooh, doggie parkour! Does sizing up brambles across the path and leaping over them count?
It is hotting up again and cocodog has laid out on the patio whilst we were cooking and eating supper. Now on sofa looking forward to new Poldark series although she really seems to prefer Radio/ CDs to TV.

BiteyShark · 10/06/2018 20:18

Oh god yes I would love to buy an actual field close by Grin

DH asked me a few months back what I would do first if I won the lottery in one of those 'what if' conversations. I said a big field for BiteyDog Grin

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 10/06/2018 20:23

Field.
Dog room.
Big van.
Another dog!
Blush

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 10/06/2018 20:23

Bitey, we have plenty of land for an agility course but DH is a ride on lawn mower fiend and anything I concoct for her has to be dismantled so that the garden doesn’t get away!!

BiteyShark · 10/06/2018 20:28

thegirl I am very jealous that you have the space for an agility course. I would love some more land but that involves moving which isn't going to happen unless I win big Grin.

Wolfie lottery list:-
Field
New house with acres of land so I don't need the field
Dog nanny so when I am tired or need to go out I can summon them to play with him Grin

DHs list would have a boat at the top with dog life jacket so he could come with us on holiday abroad Grin

noitsnotteatimeyet · 10/06/2018 20:52

There’s something not quite right with teatimetoller Confused - dh has been away for work for three weeks and normally when he comes home, teatimetoller is beside himself with giddy happiness, wiggling and bringing dh toys to play with. But tonight he looked a bit pleased and then went straight back to bed and seems unusually tired and lethargic. The only thing that’s been slightly different today is he had his nexgard and milbemax tablets but he’s had those loads of times before with no reaction so I’d be surprised if that’s the cause. I’m feeling a bit anxious about leaving him tomorrow if he’s still like this

BiteyShark · 10/06/2018 20:58

Maybe it's a combination of treatments and heat? Hoping it's just an 'off' day but I know what you mean about them not doing their usual over the top greeting.
