SquirrelDog is a Brittany, Blue.
How could you say ‘no’ to those sad Spaniel eyes? Grin

BiteyShark · 06/05/2018 10:27

Those eyes are designed to make you feel bad about saying no to anything Grin

Shit, just seen BiteyDog has a small cut on his paw pad on one of his back legs. Not as bad as last time so tempted to just keep an eye on it until Tuesday and then decide whether it needs a vet check then. Bloody hell, why can't he just be like normal dogs Sad

OP posts:
BiteyShark · 06/05/2018 18:34

Grrrr, the cut on his paw has been bleeding on and off with him tearing around. Keeping him still is an impossible task. It's the bloody flint on the footpaths in the new forest, they just cut him as he skids about Sad

Does aloe Vera work as well on doggie cuts as humans? Hope this doesn’t mean another vet trip☹️
We have just returned from the last beer fest day at our local. Walked cocodog up, very noisy and crowded but she coped well. Made friends with a group of very merry young lads who gave her shade under their table and allowed me to perch on the end of the bench. One of the perks of having a shamelessly blonde hussy.

BiteyShark · 06/05/2018 19:08

DH keeps trying to look at it and thinks unless it gets infected or gets ripped off we should try and manage this one without the vets for now as it's too small for stitches or staples and too open now for glue. I cleaned it with hibiscrub earlier and fortunately the weather is on our side to help dry it out. I think if I end up back at the vets I might just have a small cry in the surgery as that would be taking the piss Sad.

Sounds like Cocodog can turn heads Grin That's the joy of dog ownership, most people can't resist a cuddle with a dog. Before BiteyDog came along I always used to try and sit near any dogs in a pub just so I could indulge in a stroke Grin

Oh pants. Rather a long day out today so we shall see what issues that brings tomorrow.
Tried colloidal silver or even some Manuka honey? Good for healing.

GooodMythicalMorning · 06/05/2018 19:40

Aw poor Biteydog.

Bought Indy a wading pool today but he only put his front paws in. Hoping tomorrow I'll get him in properly. Just been too hot for him today. He's taken himself off to bed already

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 06/05/2018 21:58

If it’s a small cut and dry, I would smother it in something healing over the weekend and see. I am a big aloe fan but must admit haven’t used it for a cut but to great effect on dry paws after snow.
Cocodog is tired after her exertions and rather restless so I know what you mean, Wolfie, about issues tomorrow. We are going to have a quiet day with lots of gardening and lying around. I am also rather jealous that my dog is the head turner these days😢
Goood, you have reminded me about the pool, cocodog not a swimmer but enjoys pouncing in and out after a ball so will get it out tomorrow .

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 07/05/2018 00:04

We're away this weekend. I've watched PestDog clear the fence into the neighbour's back garden no less than twice today.

I may have to rename him Thelwell Hmm

BiteyShark · 07/05/2018 05:40

PestDog must have springs in his legs. BiteyDog could scale lots of things but he seems to accept he shouldn't.

We have a paddling pool for BiteyDog but he just treats it like a big water bowl to drink from Hmm.

The wound has opened up and he's limping Sad. If we go to the vets it will just mean dressings for the next two weeks and no walks. At the moment it looks sore but not infected so will make a decision tomorrow on vets or not. This means no daycare and more grovelling at work to work at home. I never anticipated this when I got a dog Sad

BiteyShark · 07/05/2018 05:54

Sore paw pad Sad

OP posts:
thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 07/05/2018 07:16

Ouch! Will he let you smother it in something soothing and tape a sock on?

BiteyShark · 07/05/2018 07:23

Knowing him he would eat the sock Hmm

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 07/05/2018 07:29

Ouch Bitey Sad

Just a thought, but is he routinely walked on tarmac much? I wonder if it might toughen up his paw pads and make them less susceptible to this sort of thing in future. I'm pretty sure I've PestDog has walked over broken glass before now (inner London... It's the sort of thing you can just miss occasionally) with no ill effects. It certainly also keeps his nails naturally trim.

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 07/05/2018 07:31

Well you don’t want to be going back there😕 I never understand why dogs won’t leave anything alone you put on trying to help them. Very frustrating.

BiteyShark · 07/05/2018 07:40

I do think that might be the problem with his paws Avocados as he mainly runs about on grass so they probably are quite soft. We only do the occasional road walk and yesterday because DH was with us we did more of the forest paths which have the gravel and flint on them.

They don't learn do they thegirls Sad. At the moment it clearly has stopped bothering him as he's chasing pigeons in the garden. I am really sitting on the fence right now. On one hand I kind of know we should have a proper dressing on and be putting a boot on and stopping him walking on it for a few weeks. But on the other hand I am thinking lots of people don't bother with the vets and just let them hobble around until it eventually heals itself. He's just turned 19 months of age and we have a list as long as both my arms of vet visits, surely we can't be this unlucky Confused

Squirrel26 · 07/05/2018 08:41

Sad Poor BiteyDog. So difficult when they don’t understand why they need to leave it alone!

Took SquirrelDog with me to meet friend for lunch yesterday. We were sitting outside a cafe when someone dropped a glass bottle of coke on their way out. Cue a load of people (many of whom didn’t even work there!) clearing up with brushes and apologising to SquirrelDog and enquiring if his little paws were quite OK and if he’d been troubled by such a traumatic happening. Grin (He wasn’t. He was too busy eyeing up my lunch.)

bluetongue · 07/05/2018 09:15

It doesn’t look that bad Bitey. Bluepuppy has had a bigger area of grazed pad and it actually healed up really quickly. Think I’dcontinue with the watch and wait approach for now if he seems okay on it.

BiteyShark · 07/05/2018 11:00

At the moment we are discouraging any licking and just 'ignoring it' for now. Fingers crossed it just heals. It certainly isn't stopping him guarding the garden from the birds Grin

OP posts:
noitsnotteatimeyet · 07/05/2018 14:10

Poor BiteyDog... teatimetoller is a veteran of many pad injuries - our vet doesn’t put a dressing on but says to put a sock on for walks - the sock is kept on with vetwrap. If it’s very wet we use these which keep it dry as well as clean. We will be very vigilant next time it happens as it’s highly likely that the bacteria causing his spinal infection got in through a cut pad

noitsnotteatimeyet · 07/05/2018 14:13

I also wanted to introduce our new addition to the family

She’s currently 5 weeks old and will be coming home the secon weekend in June.

She’s a tricolour smooth collie - we obviously enjoy playing ‘rare breed’ Top Trumps Grin

General Dog Chat Part II
BiteyShark · 07/05/2018 14:19

I bought some of those teatime the last time he cut his pad but I couldn't get them over his paws even though we had measured them. Everyone does comment on the very large size of his paws compared to him Hmm

She looks lovely. You will soon be posting on the puppy survival thread as well Grin

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 07/05/2018 14:37

Pawz should only be used over a bandage. Not straight on a paw. We have muttluks that I had to bloody import. But they work.
Cute pupper!!

Squirrel26 · 08/05/2018 08:29

So cute, teatime. Will she be ‘teatimecollie’? Grin
