We recently got a dachshund (31st Jan) she's 5 months old. Since having her my DS whose 4 has been so nasty towards her to the point she is constantly locked in the kitchein for her and DS safety. DS use to be so loving and caring and since getting dpup he has changed. I've tried disaplining DS but nothing seems to be working. Most of the time he's just playing with Dpup but he always goes overboard and ends up hurting her. It's getting so bad Dpup has started jumping up at people's faces and going to bite them and has even bit DS a couple of times. I'm worried as I have a 2 week old DD and concerned that dpup will hurt DD. I don't want to have to rehome dpup and we live my mil who has really bonded with her and gets upset everytime I mention it might be a possibility, but I have tried everything I can think if and nothing is changing. Not sure what i want from posting this really.

I agree with PP's. No reputable breeder would sell a puppy to a person who is due to give birth and also has a toddler.

Be kind to the puppy and rehome OP. You already have your hands full with your children. Puppies need a lot of time, training, boundaries and love which you obviously have no time for

HuskyMcClusky · 21/02/2018 00:56

This sounds a lot like another recent thread which was banned because the OP was a PBP...

True.

GinIsIn · 21/02/2018 04:01

This all sounds very familiar..... Hmm

BiteyShark · 21/02/2018 07:21

This all sounds very familiar..

We do get a lot of these threads on here for obvious reasons to get us all frothing at the mouth but I think I actually recognise OP from other threads though.

Unfortunately it does also seem common that people get puppies with very small children then find they completely underestimated the work involved and the puppy suffers and gets rehomed.

bluebells1 · 21/02/2018 07:48

What's there to discuss? What do you want to hear? Your son is being mean to the poor dog and the dog deserves better. Rehome ASAP. Oh and never get pets until your son leaves home.

SaintKiller · 21/02/2018 08:05

OP I would ask for this post to be deleted. This section of mumsnet can be a vile place.
With people looking to judge you from your choice of breeder to your parenting skills.

Look at Facebook. Find a specialist Dashhound group and ask for advice there. You are likely to get less judgmental posts and more helpful posts on how to deal with your current situation.

Good luck!

CapnHaddock · 21/02/2018 08:17

Saint - the OP has been given the contact details for the Breed rescue twice now. She doesn't need to start a new thread elsewhere to get exactly the same information.

Having a puppy and a new baby when you have a 4 year old at the same time isn't fair on anyone. No breed group will tell her any different.

TeddyIsaHe · 21/02/2018 08:18

Saint no one is being ole, they are (rightly) annoyed with the op for making a spectacularly poor descison that has made the first few weeks of this pup’s life horrid and dangerous, and now has the upheaval of being rehomed. Get off your high horse.

TeddyIsaHe · 21/02/2018 08:19

*VILE

Wtf autocorrect

GinIsIn · 21/02/2018 09:10

Jesus wept, it looks like you are actually for real. Poor, poor dog.

Firstly, be honest with yourself. You really can’t have done that much research as you can’t even spell the breed. And no reputable breeder would ever refuse to take a puppy back. Also, they are a breed famously not suited to a family with young children.

You mentioned you are in Berkshire. Please take the puppy to Battersea Dogs Home’s Old Windsor site, so it can be rehomed to a suitable family before it gets hurt.

And don’t ever get another dog.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 21/02/2018 09:18

Saint nobody has been vile. This situation could have been avoided if the OP hadn't bought a puppy on a whim so close to giving birth. In all honesty I think it's more likely that the cute new puppy stage has worn off and the reality of owning a dog has hit hard now especially because there's a newborn baby in the mix and the OP wants rid.

The messages that follow my first posts have unfortunately proved my point. The level of hatred and vitriol is quite frankly shameful and disgusting. No doubt that will continue.

If you are still reading this post OP and god alone knows why you would given the nastiness by some - my advice is delete/hide and go to an open forum like Facebook where in my experience people are less likely to be judgmental and less likely to make assumptions.

PhelanThePain · 21/02/2018 09:44

I was actually wondering if this was a xmas puppy.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 21/02/2018 09:47

Phelan I think so. On another thread dated 6/1 the OP says she had had her puppy one week.

mustbemad17 · 21/02/2018 09:55

OP please get in touch with the dachshund rescue asap. If you get stuck feel free to PM, I work with a couple of general breed rescues & I'm sure one would be able to help out. No judgement here, you've taken a bashing already - the important thing here is to get your pup safe

EveryoneTalkAboutPopMusic · 21/02/2018 09:55

I think that the safety of the pup and your children must come before your DMILs feelings. It’s going to be hard, especially as you are living with her but it sounds like the only option.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 21/02/2018 09:56

Saint you're wrong. The OP would be torn to shreds on FB by dog lovers. At least here there's some level of restraint to what posters can say.

Your attitude is depressing too.

PhelanThePain · 21/02/2018 09:59

Yes that makes better sense with the dates/age of puppy. OP said she got her pup 5 weeks before her baby was due. Her baby is two weeks old. 7 weeks ago yesterday (when OP posted) was 2/1 and 8 weeks was 26/12. Allowing for baby to be a week overdue that would have been a xmas puppy. If he is 5 months now he was 3 months then which is a far more likely age for a breeder to sell a puppy.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 21/02/2018 10:06

The OP says on the 4/1 that she was already struggling with the puppy after only 4 days and that her DS didn't like it and wanted to send it back to the pet shop. I'm now wondering where the puppy was bought from.

HarrietKettle · 21/02/2018 10:28

This has not sounded like a dog sourced from a reputable breeder all along, but posters know if they say that they will get quite rightly torn to shreds, so I think that information has been less than transparent from the OP. Any breeder worth a dime would not a ship off a puppy to household with a very small child and a baby imminent at Christmas FFS.

TeddyIsaHe · 21/02/2018 10:42

Ignore Saint. They obviously have no clue/compassion for animals. Rather protect the poor op’s feelings than see what a huge mistake op has made.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 21/02/2018 11:14

Sometimes it's best to protect the OP's feelings until they've been persuaded to do the right thing and have rehomed the dog in a responsible fashion. A barrage of abuse would make most people leave the thread.

A probably puppy farmed dog, bought for Christmas from a pet shop by someone heavily pregnant is no one's idea of ideal. However, my first concern is for the unfortunate pup; if biting my tongue means it's sent to a breed rescue and not Gumtree, I will.

cista · 21/02/2018 11:15

I can't believe people are showing more concern for the op than the dog! The dog is the victim here, not the op. The op deserves every nasty comment she gets.

TeddyIsaHe · 21/02/2018 11:16

To be honest if the op is irresponsible enough to get the puppy in those circumstances I doubt she’s going to do the right thing in rehoming. She said she doesn’t have enough money for training so I can easily see this poor pup being sold onto recoup her money.

Awful thread and situation.
