Anyone fancy a general dog chat thread?

BiteyDog is now almost 15 months old and it's about time we ditched the puppy survival thread for general chit chat but it's still nice to chat about our doggie dilemmas and days so if anyone wants to join me in wittering on saves BiteyDog having the listen to my incessant talking at him then welcome aboard.

How's all the dogs coping with the snow in the northern parts? I am sick of the rain and I guess fortunate enough that BiteyDog doesn't like it much either so apart from a 20 min ball run we are snuggled up in the house today.

Phew looks like pro kolin is doing the trick. Poo almost back to normal this morning but still a very pale colour Sad

Soubriquet · 31/01/2018 07:43

That's good. Hopefully he is now on the mend.

It's amazing how much you check their poo thought isn't it Grin

Hoping madams perfect fit harness comes today. It's sad that I'm so excited isn't it

BiteyShark · 31/01/2018 08:04

I guess poo is only one of a few things we have to go on to indicate whether they are feeling ok Grin

I bought a perfect fit harness a few weeks ago and one of their fleece double leads. It's taken a bit of getting used to but seems ok (quite pricey). I still use his old one for agility though as it has a handle I can use to grab him with Grin

Did you go for a particular colour?

OP posts:
Soubriquet · 31/01/2018 08:16

Why pink of course Grin

BiteyShark · 31/01/2018 08:24

Haha I picked red because I find it stands out better on a brown cocker but unfortunately everyone then thinks he's a girl (and the fact that he pees like a girl doesn't help) Grin

OP posts:
Soubriquet · 31/01/2018 10:14

Bless him

My girl looks pretty in pink Wink

She already has a pink harness and a purple coat...yet I've still had people ask me if she's a boy or a girl Confused

rightsaidfrederickII · 31/01/2018 10:21

I went for a blue equafleece, but that was only because I thought it would make him easier to spot in the woods, rather than because of a need to gender him!

Soubriquet · 31/01/2018 10:25

I just like pink tbh. I would probably have gotten pink even if she was a boy Grin

BiteyShark · 31/01/2018 10:25

The issue is that everyone at training says 'she' and then I feel awkward saying 'good boy' as it's like I am correcting them Sad

steppemum · 31/01/2018 10:44

steppedog has a red/black/white collar and lead and when his harness EVENTUALLY arrives (ordered ages ago...) it will be red.

He is black and white, and looks fab with red stuff on.

BiteyShark · 31/01/2018 10:47

I was a bit miffed that the prefect fit front section only comes in black if you want a ring on it Blush

bluetongue · 31/01/2018 10:52

So funny. People think Bluepuppy is a girl as well Grin. Thought I saw him cock his leg a few months ago but has still been squatting since then.

Bluepuppy has a matching collar and lead that is black with white spots. The collar has a mint green plastic buckle. Got to look good! I used to have horses and they all had their own colour scheme as well.

Soubriquet · 31/01/2018 11:03

Well it came! And I think it looks lovely.

I had to message for help with sizes because she is so awkward and they managed to get it spot on

BiteyShark · 31/01/2018 11:07

Soubriquet I think she needs a walk in it to show it off.

blue BiteyDog has never ever cocked his leg.

OP posts:
Soubriquet · 31/01/2018 11:16

She's had a 90 walk this morning and that was with me feeling poorly.

She's crashed out now thankfully as my Ds has just gone for a nap. I'll probably take her for a walk later to see how it goes though

snowy1982 · 31/01/2018 11:36

When snowydog1 cocked his leg for the first time I actually cheered for him (yes in public). Both snowydogs only cock if they have something to cock against, but if on grass will squat/stretch out.

Snowydog2 cocks when going for a poo, only when out walking, never at home) and then looks genuinely surprised when poo comes out

DeepfriedPizza · 31/01/2018 11:53

Everyone thinks Pizzapup is a boy. She wears a aqua blue collar and a red harness. She also has a pink harness but rarely wears that one. She also pees like a girl but everyone still assumes boy.

I don't feel bad correcting them, Bitey, I would correct people if they got my daughter's sex wrong too

bluetongue · 31/01/2018 12:34

She looks adorable in it Soubriquet.

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 31/01/2018 13:59

Cocodog has a blue perfect fit harness which she had as a pup and then a bigger girth strap to fit to it when she fully grew. She inherited my old dogs red collar and then I bought a longer lead for her from our trainer which only came in purple. She now has a matching purple collar and a ruff and tumble purple dog drying robe which she wears when wet in the car with a very resigned expression. I keep telling her how smart she looks but it isn’t true at the moment because she needs clipping and just looks like a tatty mutt.

BiteyShark · 31/01/2018 18:52

Loving all these stories of how our dogs have to look colour coordinated Grin.

Hmmm just been googling to see if there is a tick season. Haven't seen any for months and just picked a live one off BiteyDog which was crawling along his leg.

OP posts:
MaxatAgincourt · 31/01/2018 19:03

Maxatdog is also squatter when he wees!
His eye is are better, he had a seed in it but managed to flush it out.

Love the colour cordination! He still wears DT collar that he came with because I found it made people slow down when they approach him and ask if he is a rescue. Stopped people rushing him.

BiteyShark · 31/01/2018 19:10

I used to think all male dogs cocked their legs but only realised that quite a few don't when I googled about it.

Glad Maxatdog eye is better. Must be very irritating to have something in their eyes and not able to get it out.

MsHomeSlice · 31/01/2018 20:18

our first boy dog never really cocked his leg, but we thought it was because he was second dog to a girl and he'd had no manly influences to show him the proper way. He did do it once on a walk and it was so random we all gawked at one another in shock! But that was it....he wasn't a very long dog either..colliexspaniel and with the especially feathery legs. His nickname was pizzlepants!

but mostly all of our boy dogs have been squatters. My precious would lean a bit and lift one foot off the floor...like Cary Grant in a bedroom scene with Doris Day! The other one would just walk out a bit with his front feet and sort of aim down, with his back feet a bit wide...very much more a hint of lean and not a real squat!

We are also very much on the pootalk too with the pup

did he.....??
Oh yes, a nice big one
No squelches?

We are also quite amused as he seems to be a bit horrified at his own doings, he just looks at it as if it has appeared by magic but stinks nonetheless.

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 31/01/2018 21:34

We were always twisting ticks out of our old cat and last dog. Mentioned it to our vet when cocodog arrived and she has Bravecto, which I know some are not keen on BUT she has never had a tick on her.
Our last and only male dog was a Lancashire Heeler who cocked his leg higher than his head. Often marvelled at how he didnt fall over😁

steppemum · 01/02/2018 09:09

steppedog is a lean a squat, not a cocker unless there is something to cock against.
Which would be fine, except he obviously gets bored weeing, so he walks off half way through while he is still weeing and wees all over his front legs and tummy feathers Hmm

Fortunately he gets hosed down after a walk, and he has plenty of thigns to cock against in the garden.
