What does your dog do all day?

My dog sleeps.
Occasionally gets up to be let out for a wee, or to eat and drink.
Then back to sleep.and to dream, judging by the sleep woofs.
She’s almost 11.

Lounges about being fussed and pampered. Not eating at the moment and driving us mad. Not even holding out for people good. Just so damn picky! She did have a piece of pasty the other day but only after it was soaked in vinegar.

Food*

Eats, chews stuff, sleeps, chews stuff, plays with toys, chews stuff, goes for walks, chews stuff...

...oh and did I mention he chews stuff??

my 18 month old schnauzer insists on an hours walk at about 10am, then plays in the garden for half an hour. After that its snooze time till about 4 pm then needs to be played with or go out for another walk. In the evenings she has an annoying habit of suddenly perking up at 9pm and wanting us to play! Im in my PJs then (and half asleep) or I would take her out for a quick stroll.

Up, walk, breakfast, sleep, play, chew, lunch, scrounge, training or walk, sleep, play, play, fuss, dinner, play, snooze, bedtime...

repeat it all again the next day!

Plays, chews, barks...play, chews, barks...rinse and repeat all fucking day.

Her favourite thing to do is is sit in the window like that ^ and bark at everything that passes. I try and get her down every time but sometimes I begin to feel like a yo yo

Currently having the evening 'ball' session, which involves throwing length of sitting room/hiding ball behind cushions. This will go on for an hour or so until she flops on the sofa for the rest of the evening. Other than that, up around 6.30. Poo, pee in garden, breakfast then sleep in my study while I do paperwork. Long walk in the morning. Maybe gardening pm or some housework, all of which she finds fascinating. Various training and play sessions at odd moments. We both fall into bed exhausted. I would love a lie in but she is up and ready to go so bloody early every morning - it's nice in the summer, not so much in this awful gloom.

12 month old.... dash around the garden barking madly at birds and policing the squirrels, walk (and police more squirrels), eat, play, chew stuff up, cuddle, nap, garden dash and bird/squirrel supervision, play, chew stuff up, cuddle, walk, play, 3000 ball retrieves, nap, this continues until about 8.30-9pm at which time he tries to shred the carpet while looking me right in the eyes hypnotising me with 'Its Time To Go To Bed'.

Does anyone think we train our dogs to expect stimulation?
I grew up with dogs, ( farm) and honestly never, ever walked a dog or threw a ball. They just ate, slept and worked perhaps once or twice a month.
My first dog ( urban) trained me to walk her at exactly the same time every day, and followed me everywhere, pining if I closed the door to use the loo, you get the picture.
With my now little hound, she’s much less stressed as I didn’t pander to her. She gets walked when I feel like walking her, time to suit me.
She is just a dog, not a child or baby that needs constant attention.
I know many of you here will be appalled at this sentiment.

I agree, our ddogs live by our schedule not the other way round.

Our ddogs are spoilt at my discretion - not pandered to regardless. For example - this is how I watch TV.
BTW dh is on another couch!!

Patrols the garden protecting us from cats / aliens / who knows, sits in the window watching the world go by and barking at anyone he disapproves of, hoovers up food the toddler drops, goes for walks, does his stretch, roll, yawn routine several times a day. He's very busy. He's currently allowing me to scratch his ears even though I wouldn't let go into the garden - he's already been out twice since he got back from his walk an hour ago (obviously there's something very exciting in the garden tonight).

Oh glittery I don’t mean to be a GF , and my dog is now elderly, but I do think there is a trend to make dog owners respond to their pets as if they are human babies, and need to be constantly stimulated.

If you grew up on a farm though your dogs would have had land to run around on and wouldn’t necessarily have needed walks. My DH grew up in South Africa and dogs live outside there, he had German Shepherds and they only had a walk once a week.

Sleeps mainly (he's an old fella now) but gets excited the moment there's any food about (whether for him or not) and prances round like a puppy.

I have a three year old border collie (reject sheep dog). He definitely needs at least two proper walks a day where he can have a really good run around and get rid of some energy, otherwise he drives me mental running in circles in the house. We have never had a set routine with him though, so he doesn't wake up early in the morning (in fact he definitely prefers a lie in) and if the weather is horrible or we are feeling lazy he'll happily play with his toys until we take him for a walk.

To me the main thing is to stop him being bored - I would hate to be trapped inside all day with nothing new to ever see or do! That's why I think nice walks in different places with lots of new smells for him to sniff keep him happy.

Mine is a lurcher, so it is 90% snoozing in varying positions

So true MissyB1 but hand on heart I have never, ever seen a dog take itself for a walk. Now I have seen dogs ( un neutered) run for miles in search, of shall we say, ‘ a party’ but my truthful view is we have decided dogs are fur babies and done them a dis-service by training them to much. Perhaps they get stressed and feel under pressure to perform ?

My little dog spends his day chasing seagulls, barking at the cat next door, a huge Persian tom cat who is bigger than him, sleeping on the sofa, and eating. It's a dog's life.

My view, unscientific, is that dogs just like sniffs and not lots of walks, unless they need to work like collies. But even then collies only like the work not the walk

Dog 1 - sits in window and conducts surveillance on the street.
Dog 2 - barks, chews mats, snores.
