I’m without Bluepuppy at home for the first time in months. Don’t worry, he’s fine Grin He’s gone for a few days with the woman who will be boarding him when I go away next month. Apparently he has had a fabulous time playing with another dog staying there and also went for a walk down to the beach Smile I think he will be much happier in a home situation than kennels.

The only thing that did make me feel a bit sad is that he did look pretty skinny next to her whippets. He just seems to burn off everything I feed him. Wish I had the same problem ....

BiteyShark · 10/01/2018 11:09

Awww blue I bet the house feels very empty without him. I just keep taking comfort in my vets saying that it is so better to be on the lean side for health.

KinkyDoritowithsparkleson · 10/01/2018 15:14

Hi all, fun and games here! I have a poo making puddles of poo everywhere. He was at the vet yesterday and is now on a cooked chicken only diet, with a bit of scrambled egg chucked in for good measure. Still has the runs today - it did form then back to puddles (TMI!) so it’s looking like back to the vets tomorrow.

I’m a bit suspicious of his food - he’s on nutriment puppy which is a raw complete. I defrost it and store it in the fridge. It does about 2 days. It looks really oozy, although it doesn’t smell. I’m not sure if I should switch him and was wondering what others feed? I’m not rushing to do anything yet until he’s well.

BiteyShark · 10/01/2018 15:25

I think most of us have had the puppy runs at one time or the other. In fact we ended up at the emergency vets over a bank holiday Angry. Does your pup have a temperature at all or did the vet think it was just something he had eaten rather than a bug?

I now feed (as it took a very long time to get food that suited BiteyDogs stomach as he does seem very sensitive) millieswolfheart wet food with a few nuggets of kibble for crunch. I used to feed kibble only but it's just too hard on his stomach.

I also found he didn't tolerate chicken and rice very well which is often recommended for sensitive stomach.

KinkyDoritowithsparkleson · 10/01/2018 15:28

He had a slight temperature. She said if it doesn’t shift by Thursday, it could well be a bug from his food given it’s mainly raw chicken. He’s fine in himself.

KinkyDoritowithsparkleson · 10/01/2018 15:33

I really like the look of Millies.

BiteyShark · 10/01/2018 15:38

Mine gets a bad stomach very easily and I celebrate secretly inside am relieved when he has solid poo.

I have no experience with raw as it isn't suitable for us to feed him that. I will say though it has taken months to work out that it was the type of food he couldn't handle as the wet is the same ingredients from the same manufacturer as the kibble but he is so much better on it and I can tell the difference in health just by looking at him.

Elphame · 10/01/2018 16:45

Mine is on Butternut Box - not the cheapest but we get perfect poo (unless he's scoffed something he shouldn't!)

PerfectlyChaotic · 10/01/2018 17:24

Checking in again! kinkydortio we feed PefectPup nutriment and it's the only thing that we've had proper solid poos with! I do think it's a bit of trial and error though as they're all so different aren't they?!

Fannyfanakerpants · 10/01/2018 23:02

Please reassure me that they do get toilet training??? I know I'm expecting a lot, puppy is only 9 1/2 weeks but it feels like we're going backwards. Every time we take her out (About 45 -60 mins) she goes for a wee or poo and if we're in the kitchen, she will ask to go out but will still then come inside and do another at times. Especially poos . She seems to hare going outside when it's wet. We are cleaning them with proper cleaner so they're not in the same place each time. They are ignored and she is praised quickly for going outside. Does it just click one day?

stillnotjustamummy · 10/01/2018 23:59

My bedtimes are getting worse not better. I'm now having to sit downstairs until he falls asleep, then come back about 4am for a wee, then he goes back in his area and I tell him to settle down for two hours while remaining on the sofa. Upstairs is not an option- that's the cats domains d the DH will not consider it.
He is also refusing to follow me when walking on the lead. This morning I had to yank him to make him finish crossing the road with us on the school run. I'm sure there must be a better way, but he is even getting fussy about what I can lure him with... what can I try?

Sofabitch · 11/01/2018 01:20

We are 6 days into a stomach bug here. Its cost me a fortune. The vet hasn't really done anything. An anti sickenss injection (£290 due to out of hours) and some paste that is supoosed to firm his poo up. Anyway..hes gone from going through the night to me waking to piles of shit on my bedroom floor the past 2 nights. I've had to crate him tonight in an attempt to contain it. Anyway he just woke me by scratching an whining...so i wemt to take him out but he ran to the bathroom and shat on the floor (minor blessing as at least uts not carpet).

But seems absolutely fine in himself otherwise.

We started with raw feeding but it was bloody hard work remembering to defrost the food before feeding him..esspecially wjen he was on 4 meals a day. So we weaned him over to lilys kitchen which he loves and i dont mind as it smells good.

I wish I'd realised dogs could keep you awake at night !

BiteyShark · 11/01/2018 04:57

Fannyfanakerpants it can take weeks and often to be reliably toilet trained and asking to go out every single time (rather than people taking them out) months. I had to force the issue which meant staying outside for a very long time with my pup until he eventually went. 9.5 weeks is still very very young. It will happen and you will get many set backs but keep at it.

BiteyShark · 11/01/2018 05:10

stillnotjustamummy mine refused to walk on the lead when very young. I stopped dragging him out and started taking him to secure spots and we would then do short lead then off lead and then back on short lead to the car. This was great because then he stopped associating the lead with being dragged round the scary (lots of cars and dark mornings) streets and after a few months we started the walks again and he was fine. As for night time I never stayed with mine. I just plonked down and left, if he cried I would wait a couple of mins then back outside (even if had just been) then back in without saying a word. This was repeated and repeated until he got that is was sleep or pee.

BiteyShark · 11/01/2018 05:44

Sofabitch don't be afraid to go back to the vets and say it isn't getting any better. I had to do that with one bad bout and he then had tablets and another injection which cleared it up. Do you have insurance?

KinkyDoritowithsparkleson · 11/01/2018 06:52

Sofa. Sounds similar to here. I'm going to go back to the vet today. Puddles of poo everywhere! The paste hasn't firmed anything although I did manage to squirt some on his back and now he looks gelled - trying to wet wipe an excitable puppy was beyond me last night.

BiteyShark · 11/01/2018 07:10

I queried whether giving pro kolin was still worth it if it didn't firm up the poos but the vet said it was still worth giving it as it helps the stomachs bacteria. They always squirt it in his mouth but he hated that so I put it between two bits of food which was so much easier.

KinkyDoritowithsparkleson · 11/01/2018 10:40

Prescription food and fecal tests sent off. Up to £200 now. Lord.

BiteyShark · 11/01/2018 10:43

Yes it's amazing how quickly the costs can amount. I am just waiting for my last claim to be processed [sigh].

Is it the royal canin gastro friendly food?

KinkyDoritowithsparkleson · 11/01/2018 11:01

It’s Hills I think, sensitive stomach.

KinkyDoritowithsparkleson · 11/01/2018 11:03

Should I be trying to claim back costs? I didn’t know if it would be worth it for premiums?

BiteyShark · 11/01/2018 11:11

Who is your insurer? Mine is with pet plan and last year I made several small claims of a few hundred and one big one. Totalling around £2.5k for the year. My premium only went up a small amount. Even without the large claim I still claimed for the small ones which would had covered my premium on their own for the year.

Normally for house, travel insurance etc I would never think to claim for small amounts but for vets stuff I do.

BiteyShark · 11/01/2018 11:13

In fact petplan actually say in their website that the premiums go up based on age, breed and address and is not connected to a claim.

KinkyDoritowithsparkleson · 11/01/2018 11:38

Pet plan, though not sure he will be covered. My main plan won’t yet and not sure about the free 4 week policy from the breeder.

KinkyDoritowithsparkleson · 11/01/2018 11:39

Nope - within the 14 days for illness. Sigh.
