*catch up on some work

bluetongue · 06/01/2018 11:11

Good to hear Biteypup is on the mend Smile

With the help of treats I have recall back. I still have to really be on the ball with him though as being a whippet, unless you call him quickly enough he’s out of range Grin

BiteyShark · 06/01/2018 11:12

That's good news blue. Do you use a whistle? Always useful when they decide to leg it Wink

beanhunter · 06/01/2018 15:22

Zika beanpup has also been left alone from day 1. Can quite happily do 2.5 hrs in his crate now WiFi no distress at 11 weeks. Our last dog had really bad anxiety and we were determined that this one would (as far as was in our control) learn to be alone and so far so good.

BooToYouToo · 06/01/2018 17:13

Just catching up.

For us, with biting, standing up and turning our backs tended to work but if it carried on we did time out in the crate (and still do). It was our vets who advocated time out and up until starting puppy parties with them we avoided it and had the scars to prove it!

I work for 2.5 hrs twice a week and this started after we'd had the puppy for 2 weeks. When I come home he's always just waking up.

We finally put the puppy in a crate in our room and he's slept through the night after 4 months of waking us up when he was in the playroom, wish we'd tried it sooner.

Our main issue is still that he's so destructive and can't really be left alone with a toy. He was having great fun yesterday with an old football which had been found in a flowerbed but after 10 minutes running around with it he started biting the covering off so away it went. I bought him some root to chew on but he had very runny poo so it could have been that. Might try him on a pigs ear.

BiteyShark · 06/01/2018 17:21

Boo I found the kong traxx is super tough and mine hasn't managed to destroy it yet and he can destroy 'tough' toys in minutes.

Another one doing well is West Paw Zogoflex Air Wox Dog.

GooodMythicalMorning · 06/01/2018 19:41

I have to leave Indy for at least an hour each day as I can't bring him on school pick up. He's been fine.

He's just had a pigs ear and loves it. Yay.

We. Got ours at 11 weeks and have left her for up to 4 hours. She was crated pre us, she has a clipped in water bowl and biscuit bowl in her crate. Has a kong and puppy goo plus kog biscuits you wedge in it
She spends 9 hrs in it overnight without a whimper so ... we just have to go with it. When she’s older —and stops bullying the cat— we can leave her loose.

GooodMythicalMorning · 06/01/2018 21:15

Spoke to soon. Vommed it up straight after!

So qod you leave your pup in a cage for 13 hours? Seems such a long while, though if you have to work etc I suppose you have toSad

Sostenueto · 06/01/2018 21:19

I left my pup for the first time last week for half a hour while I nied to the local shop. I thought she would wreck everything or bark the whole time. She just sat in the hall waiting and greeted me as if I'd been gone months! Will try again this week.

BiteyShark · 06/01/2018 21:56

Goood BiteyDog used to get the runs with pigs ears. I found dried cows ears much less greasy although he doesn't have them anymore since he was ill as we cut out everything that might upset his stomach Sad

QOD · 06/01/2018 22:45

She sleeps in it overnight - more like 7/8 I guess? A couple of 9 hrs though for sure, it’s usually us that wakes her up in the morning.
She’s a chihuahua and they are notorious sleepers. Up to 18 hours a day!
She put herself to bed last night at 11:15 lol
Then she’s out and about for an hour/hour and a half then back in for 3 or 4 then someone is home again
When she stops pissing the cat off who weighs 6kg to her 1.1kg she will have the run of the downstairs for the 3 or 4 hours. But she doesn’t whine more than a min or 2 - Only when we come back in (I’ve hung round listening to thewindow )

Sostenueto · 07/01/2018 07:20

Aw bless qod well she's so small I understand Flowers

GooodMythicalMorning · 07/01/2018 10:13

Have booked Indy in for castration on thurs, didnt really want to but as he only has one testicle I dont want to leave it and for it to cause him problems in the future. Was hoping it'd turn up but as he's now 8 months the chances of that are extremely slim.

I was relieved after BiteyDog was done as it's such a worry even though it's a simple operation done frequently as you just can't explain what's happening to them. Although the worst was when he fell off the bed as he was still groggy Blush

Abhorsen · 07/01/2018 15:28

Hello to all the new puppy’s and glad bitey sounds like he’s improving even if he isn’t 100% yet.

I need to get back on top of training with dpup, it’s been on the back burner with Christmas and new year and it’s starting to show! He’s just over 6 months now and recall is getting worse and he’s also barking all the time when he’s in the garden, I’m sure my neighbours are loving me 😳
The barking I can manage if I’m outside, but I got lazy with the cold and snow so stopped going outside with him and looks like I need to start again. Roll on summer - or at least spring 😂

I love this squishy face

You and me both Abhorsen on the training. BiteyDog almost pulled my arm off on walks this weekend. A few months ago it looked like we were really making progress with walking on the lead and now we are back to square one again.

Sostenueto · 07/01/2018 21:27

Hi all. I have a long legged staffie and she's going to be huge in height and is already really powerful at 5 months. She passed her puppy level in obedience at just 4 months, failed the bronze on the sit ( because she wouldn't put her bottom on a cold floor and I wasn't allowed to use her mat!) But we are back at training classes though the sit is still a problem. She will sit for 2 minutes which is a very long time on her mat but she is stubborn! Anyway I was advised from the beginning to put a half choke quick release collar on Cleo as well as a strong harness and a short rope lead with a double connector on to give me more control of her as she really is strong! It works a treat. I am disabled and in my mid 60 s and though my walking is a bit slow for Cleo she Is learning with the double restraints. The lead is loose and she no longer pulls. My walking is improving and I am getting faster though I must take my inhaler with me at all times. You can get all equipment I mentioned on line cheap....collar £5 ....harness £15....... Double connector lead £4......rope lead £12.

I have a lead designed to stop pulling and it does that but we are trying to teach him to loose lead walk on just a slip lead for his gun dog training. Spaniels as a breed are notorious as bad walking due to their side to side nose down hunting.
