Sick dog...to take to the vets or not?

My girl woke me up at 4am, came down to 2 pools of vomit, she continued to vomit for over an hour but was outside so I could not see what she was bringing up (indoors it was mainly bile and grass), I'm not sure if she has diarha as again she was outside and there's no light, eventually she settled with me on the sofa but she is trembling and is still trembling now. She does to the trembling thing sometimes, she's a SBT and this seems to be something they do but this has continued, it's now 8.30am.

She's ten years old, occasionally vomits in the morning, I think just due to a empty stomach but otherwise seems healthy.

Do I take her into the vets? Or do I wait?

I am really worried about her Sad

Thank you, I think she got more sleep than I did, she decided she wanted to sleep on the sofa with me not leaving me much space and then the cat thought he would join us too. She woke a couple times in the night, she was a little dehydrated and I was struggling to get water into her so I added a small amount of milk to her water which made it more interesting, she's still not drinking much but has eaten a bit of breakfast with her antibiotics hidden in, I still have 3 lots of mess to get into her. Back to the vets this morning to check her over.

Hope she feels better soon, poor little mite

Lovemusic33 · 18/09/2017 12:08

Vet is pleased with her progress, no sign of infection and she's more alert.

I'm not feeling as healthy after receiving the bill.

Awe just read this thread, bless her and glad she's doing better! I am also the owner of an emergency vet loving SBT, I sympathise with you and the vet bill!

It was a very expensive corn on the cob. I don't think I will be buying corn in any shape or form ever again Grin.

OP - would it be worth getting a credit card to pay the bill and then moving the balance around to capitalise on interest free terms? Might save you having to cancel your divorce and Xmas? I have a friend with loads of animals which she doesn't insure, but keeps an 'empty' credit card for emergencies such as yours.

Pet insurance is such a tricky one. We have 2 cats and 3 dogs and when our monthly premiums reached £250 I cancelled 3 policies. Kept the one for our old dog - fortunately as we'd have had to find over £3k this year. But middle dog, who is now uninsured, may need some expensive medical intervention. Such a gamble.

Lovemusic33 · 18/09/2017 15:06

I have payed it now but if I have too I can pay for Christmas on card, luckily the dd's are old enough to understand that there won't be masses of presents and there's nothing they really need this year so I can keep it at a low cost. I have just payed off all my debts so could easily get a credit card in needed.

I'm not too bothered about the divorce, it's not like I'm in a hurry (I'm not with anyone) so it can wait or maybe if I leave it long enough he will pay for it.

It's so good to hear she's making good progress.

Don't understand why dogs will eat so many things that are so bad for them, you'd think nature would have given them a bit more sense.

Hope she appreciates how much you value and love her and how much her bad eating habits have cost you.

OrlandaFuriosa · 19/09/2017 01:48

Delighted she's making progress, she'll love the comfort and attention.

Make this Christmas the one where you all make things for each other, you play board games, go Carol singing, etc, and have a 1950s time... bet they look back and say the best Christmas ever..

Hugs and pats

Aw I just read the updates, thank goodness you took her in and how wonderful it is that she's recuperating, poor thing. Hope you can have a lower key day yourself to get a little rest? I didn't say earlier as I didn't want to be mispresented but fwiw we keep a fund for dogs and boiler (boiler is 17 years old so we want to know we have the funds to replace it when it goes!). We've never taken out insurance as ours are always mature rescues that come with pre existing complaints and I find that what insurance companies will cover isn't worth it.

Lovemusic33 · 19/09/2017 15:01

Update; she's doing much better today, she's been outside led in the sun and has finally done a poo so all is working as it should be.

Glad she's on the mend.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 19/09/2017 15:21

I'd rather have my happy and healthy dog that any Christmas present.
You did the right thing.

Lovemusic33 · 19/09/2017 15:48

Chard your right, and my dd's are old enough to understand that too (luckily), dd1 said 'don't worry, I don't need anything for Christmas as I already have lots of nice things', she said as long as there's some nice food she will be happy. I'm sure I can make Christmas fun without spending too much. We are so pleased to have the dog home and on the mend, she's getting better each day.
