Sick dog...to take to the vets or not?

Lovemusic33 · 16/09/2017 08:05

My girl woke me up at 4am, came down to 2 pools of vomit, she continued to vomit for over an hour but was outside so I could not see what she was bringing up (indoors it was mainly bile and grass), I'm not sure if she has diarha as again she was outside and there's no light, eventually she settled with me on the sofa but she is trembling and is still trembling now. She does to the trembling thing sometimes, she's a SBT and this seems to be something they do but this has continued, it's now 8.30am.

She's ten years old, occasionally vomits in the morning, I think just due to a empty stomach but otherwise seems healthy.

Do I take her into the vets? Or do I wait?

I am really worried about her Sad

Pleased to read your update. I have seen a fair few corns on the cobs removed from about a dog's person. I don't think they digest very well.

Lovemusic33 · 17/09/2017 10:02

We do have a crate but she hates going in it. She loves to sleep on the sofa but she won't be able to jump up there for a few days so I have put a duvet on the floor for her. Luckily I'm not working for 2 days so I can stay with her.

"She loves to sleep on the sofa but she won't be able to jump up there for a few days"

Watch out, because she won't be convinced of that...

My dog came home from having half his stomach and intestines out and about a week of being touch and go afterwards and tried to do everything he normally did, a bit slowly and pathetically, but he still tried.

pigsDOfly · 17/09/2017 12:02

So pleased to hear she's coming home OP.

Wish you all well and hope for a good recovery.

Patchouli666 · 17/09/2017 12:15

Well an obstruction is better than a tumour. You'll be supposed how quickly she recovers once she is home. If she likes sleeping on the sofa, put the cushions on the floor from it so she can still lie on them.
I'm a vet nurse and our old Labrador had a full size sweet corn blockage in his intestine. Silly thing had gulped it down to stop our other dog getting it! He lived for four years after that, despite having a quarter of his large intestine removed due to necrosis.
He got bitten by an adder two months after the corn incident. Was ok after that too. The two things both happened on weekends though and left us with a bill of £1200 combined. Bloody dogs!
Hope she has a good night to Ishtar. Also, you can give her dioralyte or other rehydration sachets, if you have neither or can't get any, pinch of salt and a teaspoon of sugar in a litre bowl of warm water, let cool before giving it to e vet might give you rehydration sachets tho.

tabu she came straight in and climbed up on the sofa Hmm looked at me in descrase when she saw the duvet on the floor.

She is very sad, I have only just settled her down, just keeps crying and struggling to get comfortable. I need to try and get food into her but I don't want to wake her now she's asleep. If she hasn't eaten by 5pm I have to take her in to have her painkillers by injection, I really don't want to as this will stress her even more. So I need positive vibes sent my way to get food into her and ends into her.

She has over thirty staples in her tummy. I was shown what was removed, it was half a baby sweet corn and a mass of grass.

Patch I have £1000 put back (for my divorce and to pay for Christmas) so I'm hoping it won't be much more than that. Divorce and Christmas is cancelled Sad.

When ddog had major surgery on his stomach when i stayed in my flat i moved my mattress into the living room so he could still sleep beside me. Now i stay in my current house and he has had 4 ear surgeries i just moved the mattress onto the floor for a few days as he struggled to jump with his lampshade on. Sending lots of hugs to your ddog i hope she is better soon

tabulahrasa · 17/09/2017 14:12

"she came straight in and climbed up on the sofa"

Yep, sounds about right, lol

Oh in case it's handy, I used an inflatable collar instead of a cone and it worked fine for where the incision covered and didn't get him stuck anywhere... he used it as a wee pillow in fact.

user1497997754 · 17/09/2017 19:30

When both our dogs were spayed we got 2 all in one kind of babygrows from the vets really easy to put on and they were better than the cones x

Lovemusic33 · 17/09/2017 19:39

user vet mentioned that they sell special t shirts if she starts licking at the stitches, so far she hasn't touched them but then she's probably feeling to groggy at the moment.

She's being very vocal, whining a lot, I don't think she's in pain, just feeling sorry for herself and wanting constant cuddles and fuss. I have got pain killers into her and her tummy pill but struggling with the antibiotics.

Medical pet vests are great. And yes to the blow up collars.

Hope she is feeling better. What sort of corn on the cob?

Lovemusic33 · 17/09/2017 19:52

It was a mini corn in the cob (half of one/fat end), I'm guessing one of the kids probably dropped it off their plate or I could have dropped it whilst putting veg in the compost bin. I won't be buying them again, never realised how dangerous they can be for dogs.

BiteyShark · 17/09/2017 19:53

OP we had a medical shirt after neutering which is like a body vest that you just unbutton when they need the toilet. When she's feeling better might be worth getting one for the times you aren't watching her.

I think they tend to whine when groggy as they are confused but I found lots of cuddles helped. Really hope she starts to feel better soon.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 17/09/2017 20:42

I've spent many a night on sofas and chairs keeping poorly dogs company.

Lots of cuddles for them, tea for me, because I always worry I about drinking, in case I need to drive them to the emergency vet.

Good luck.

Lovemusic33 · 17/09/2017 21:18

I will be sleeping downstairs with her tonight, hopefully tomorrow she will be a bit brighter.

My dog had surgery in her nasal passage which was obviously very painful and she whined a lot. It's a reaction to the anaesthetic I was told x x

StuffYouAllInTheCrust · 17/09/2017 22:00

Aww hope your girl is feeling better soon. Awful to see our pets in pain Flowers

AliCat36 · 18/09/2017 06:02

Hoping you both had a good night & she's feeling a bit better today

Seeyamonday · 18/09/2017 07:20

Hope you all had a reasonable night sleep and that you're all feeling a bit better today X
