Sick dog...to take to the vets or not?

My girl woke me up at 4am, came down to 2 pools of vomit, she continued to vomit for over an hour but was outside so I could not see what she was bringing up (indoors it was mainly bile and grass), I'm not sure if she has diarha as again she was outside and there's no light, eventually she settled with me on the sofa but she is trembling and is still trembling now. She does to the trembling thing sometimes, she's a SBT and this seems to be something they do but this has continued, it's now 8.30am.

She's ten years old, occasionally vomits in the morning, I think just due to a empty stomach but otherwise seems healthy.

Do I take her into the vets? Or do I wait?

I am really worried about her Sad

Personally I would phone them. It's ongoing and not getting any better. Best to go now than in the early hours of the morning.

lougle · 16/09/2017 16:51

I'd phone too, sorry.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 16/09/2017 16:52

Call out of hours would be best.

Seeyamonday · 16/09/2017 17:09

I'd call the vet, they may just reassure you and ask you to give her some more food to see if it helps, mine vomits bile when her stomach is empty.

Lovemusic33 · 16/09/2017 17:22

Ok, I'm trying once more with the chicken. She's wondering around the garden so not too poorly in herself. She might just be sick because her tummy is empty. Will see how it goes and if no better I will call the vet back.

Is she eating grass?

Lovemusic33 · 16/09/2017 17:51

Yes See, she does this a lot anyway, I'm not sure if she's doing it any more than usual, she's mainly walking around the garden and digging around in dirt like she's looking for something. I have just given her a small amount of her normal food as she's refusing the chicken but she's turned her nose up at that too.

I'm just going to feed the kids and then phone the vet. She's acting really oddly, she usually hates being outside but she won't come in, she's just stood in the garden, I call her in and she asks to go back out.

I'm worried about taking her back to the vets as they will want to keep her in and scan her, she hates being away from home let alone in a cage/Kenal, she gets really anxious.

Just found out that I did not renew her insurance so it's also going to be very pricey, out of hours and possible stay over the weekend and emergency scan and blood tests.

Mine does this too but she refuses breakfast, then her tummy starts making really loud noises, she whines to go out, eats grass like some demented cow, comes in and after about half an hour she's sick, she then eats as if she hasn't seen food for days! I hope it's really something simple like just an off day and she feels better soon, keep us updated please.

Seeyamonday · 16/09/2017 18:00

Sorry sent that before I read your most recent post. Good luck OP X

LEMtheoriginal · 16/09/2017 18:13

I think you need to take her. The standing in the garden suggests to me she's in pain. I do understand re the finance and I was going to suggest not feeding the rest of the day. Monitor and vets Monday but the standing outside is worrying me.

pigsDOfly · 16/09/2017 18:22

All sounds very similar to when my dog had a pancreatic episode - not suggesting that is what is happening with your dog of course OP - but she had me up all night with vomiting, very restless, not eating food but desperately eating grass in an effort to make herself sick and she was clearly in pain.

Definitely sounds like you need the ooh vet.

Lovemusic33 · 16/09/2017 18:48

She's at the vets Sad, they are going to call me once they have have done a x ray but vet thinks it's probably an obstruction of some kind so may go straight in to surgery. If they can't find anything then they will put her on a drip overnight and monitor her, if she's no better tomorrow they will probably open her up anyway to see what they can find (if bloods are clear). I'm worried sick as I can't think of anything she might have eaten so that makes me think that it could be a tumour.

The vet said they will keep her sedated to keep her calm over night so she doesn't get anxious.

Her tummy was painful when the vet poked her around Sad

BiteyShark · 16/09/2017 18:52

Oh OP I know it's horrible but she's in the best place to get her better Flowers

If it is an obstruction it may still be something she has eaten as they are sneaky things and may have got something when your back was turned. Hope they find what's wrong quickly.

RockinSushi · 16/09/2017 18:55

Hope she's ok op.

Fairybella · 16/09/2017 19:05

Op
I hope your dog is ok. Poor thing and you too x

pigsDOfly · 16/09/2017 19:07

It's good that she's getting help.

As BiteyShark says it could be anything causing an obstruction; she could have eaten something around the house like a sock; they're such stupid creatures sometimes.

It's so frightening when they're ill like that. Hopefully the x-ray will show it's something easily dealt with.

Lovemusic33 · 16/09/2017 19:10

No obvious obstruction but her stomach is twice as big as it should be which vet is worried about as she hasn't really eaten for 24 hours.

She's going into surgery now to see what's in her stomach and why it's not emptying, if it's fluid they will drain it and try and find the cause. She will be on a lot of medication for the next 24 hours. Vet will call me when she's out of surgery.

I'm trying not to worry about how much this is going to cost me, I just want her back home and healthy.

Hope you get good news OP. Flowers

TopBitchoftheWitches · 16/09/2017 19:15

You are doing the best thing for your dog.
The vet will be aware that this will be costly. They may allow you to pay in instalments hopefully.

I hope your dog is ok soon Flowers

BiteyShark · 16/09/2017 19:18

Often vets allow payment in instalments. It's awful waiting so hope you get some good news soon.

Lovemusic33 · 16/09/2017 19:21

My vets are pretty strict on payments before pet leaves. I have some money out back for my divorce, divorce will just have to wait as this is more important.

OP posts:
LEMtheoriginal · 16/09/2017 19:25

Flowers ask for a payment plan. Many vets will accept 4x payments over 4 months.

Hope she pulls through
