After years of wanting a dog (I grew up with dogs) I am finally approaching a time when it would be suitable to get one. I'm very excited as I've waited so long and things are finally falling into place!

I'm thinking of early next year and I have my heart set on a Black and Tan smooth haired daschund.
I have had plenty of time to research the breed and feel confident this is the right breed for my family.

The only thing is I'm unsure whether to get a dog or bitch, and I'm struggling with names a little.

So, this picture of a dog I found on google, what would you name him/her? Smile

The names I have so far are:

Male:

  • Pablo
  • Darwin
  • Walter
  • Arlo

Female:

  • Wilma/Wilmer
  • Minnie (I like it but too cutsie)
  • Martha

All of the names I come up with are met with raised eyebrows Blush
Any suggestions? Do you like any of my ideas?

If this was your dog, what would you name it?

Or Prince or Chief so everyone expecting a rottie or a Doberman to come bounding over.😄

I had one like this. His name was Kevin. Grin

I absolutely love some of these name suggestions! Especially Mr Schneebly Grin

I'm still feeling like Pepper will be the one for a bitch. I just love too many of the names for a dog!

I was like this when pregnant, tonnes of names I loved for a boy but 1 for a girl

Found some great beds Gingerbread, thank you!! I really can't wait until I can officially start looking, I used the advice further up thread about looking on champ dogs and you can even set up messages so that you're emailed when litters become available! It's great that they do health tests

I messaged a couple of breeders last night to try find someone good and also to get my name on a waiting list early (as many are reserved!) and found someone great local to me.
She has 25 years experience with the breed and various health checks. She's invited me to come meet her dogs so I'm excited Grin
She's planning to have a litter next year so fingers crossed! I still have plenty of questions to ask her but so far so good
