Lost our beloved girl today

We had her put to sleep this evening. We think she had a brain tumour, she had two very distressing episodes today, completely out of the blue. She already had arthritis and was quite wobbly from a couple of attacks of vestibular syndrome last summer, and this felt like one thing too many for her to deal with. I hope we did the right thing. I couldn't bear to think of her being distressed or in pain again if she had another episode, especially if we were not in the house at the time.

I loved her more than anything. We couldn't have asked for a better dog to share our lives for the last thirteen and a half years. I never thought when I woke up this morning that we would be putting our darling girl to sleep today.

sorry to hear that - hope work are ok as you don't need any hassle at this time x

Poppypooch · 08/02/2017 18:44

Still thinking of you and lorddog It's the waiting, not knowing and feeling utterly helpless that is hard to deal with. Could you ask for some time off work as that will be one less pressure to deal with Flowers

LordRothermereBlackshirtCunt · 08/02/2017 19:46

Thanks for your kind messages. DDog has started eating today, so no need for the feeding tube. He has also started being friendly to the nurses, having previously ignored them. We went to see him earlier (and brought him some chicken, which he devoured) and he was quite waggy. It's a shame he'll have to be knocked out for the biopsy (probably tomorrow) just as he's happier, but there's clearly something wrong with the liver and we need to know what. Hes still pumped full of painkillers. Yes, the waiting and not knowing is torture. Thankfully I'm working from home for the next couple of days, so don't have to worry about putting on a brave face.

Well that's something positive to give a bit of hope. We've got all our fingers and paws crossed for him here.x

Poppypooch · 08/02/2017 20:05

Phew that is better news, keeping everything crossed here too

Noitsnotteatimeyet · 08/02/2017 20:08

You must be relieved he's eating and a bit perkier - fingers and paws crossed the biopsy gives you some helpful answers tomorrow

dietcokewithlemon · 08/02/2017 20:17

Oh my goodness just reading this has me choked up. We lost our 7 year old cocker last year in a similar very quick decline way. Langlands hospital looked after him for the last few days while they ran tests. But it was cancer and we brought him home to say goodbye. I'm so so sorry you are going through this. It is horrendous this waiting and not being able to care for them. Really wishing you strength and I hope he is better soon xx

LordRothermereBlackshirtCunt · 08/02/2017 20:33

Oh dietcoke, that's just heartbreaking. I'm so sorry.

No biopsy today as platelets still too low. If they can't do it tomorrow they plan to send him home with painkillers etc and aim to do it next week. Going to visit him later. Working from home today in a sad, empty house. A week ago today I was getting annoyed with them both for barking so much at the postman. I'd give anything to have them back right now.

Flowers lorddog may well pick up a bit quicker if they let him home with his own surroundings and you to cuddle him.

Poppypooch · 10/02/2017 18:47

Any news today on lorddog

LordRothermereBlackshirtCunt · 10/02/2017 19:15

He's home for the weekend! They couldn't do the biopsy again because of the platelets issue. So home until Tuesday when we'll take him in for more tests and, if possible, the biopsy. It is so lovely to have him back. His appetite has come back with a vengeance, and he is having lots of sofa cuddles. He's still not quite himself, but so much better than a few days ago. He is going to be the most spoilt doggie the the world! Unfortunately, though, until we have the biopsy, we don't know if this has been an acute bacterial infection or a long term chronic condition.

honeyroar · 14/02/2017 21:34

Just wondering how he's doing? I hope all is going well.

LordRothermereBlackshirtCunt · 15/02/2017 09:13

Thanks for asking, Honeyroar. We took him back to the vet yesterday but they still can't do the biopsy due to the platelets count. It's possible that he has a genetic condition that cockers occasionally have which affects the platelets - if he has that, it means that the blood will still clot, so it's safe to do the biopsy. But if not, it would be too risky. So they've set off bloods to be tested for that condition, which will take a couple of weeks. In the meant, we still don't know what's caused the liver problem - he had an ultrasound today and the liver is less enlarged, so they've sent him home with a couple more weeks of antibiotics. The ulcers seem to have gone. He is quite perky, though, and is very much enjoying our attempts to feed him up! He is being spoilt rotten, including sleeping on our bed.

We're going to collect our girl's ashes from the vet today - feeling v upset at the thought of seeing that box.

Aw, glad he's doing well, even if you don't know what it is yet. Good luck with the trip to collect the ashes.x
