Lost our beloved girl today

We had her put to sleep this evening. We think she had a brain tumour, she had two very distressing episodes today, completely out of the blue. She already had arthritis and was quite wobbly from a couple of attacks of vestibular syndrome last summer, and this felt like one thing too many for her to deal with. I hope we did the right thing. I couldn't bear to think of her being distressed or in pain again if she had another episode, especially if we were not in the house at the time.

I loved her more than anything. We couldn't have asked for a better dog to share our lives for the last thirteen and a half years. I never thought when I woke up this morning that we would be putting our darling girl to sleep today.

Thinking of you and little dog

LordRothermereBlackshirtCunt · 04/02/2017 20:27

My poor boy on his way to the hospital drugged up on methadone. He is normally the most bouncy spaniel you could meet
The specialist has ruled out pancreatitis. He has an ulcer on his small intestine and an enlarged liver, so antibiotics and more tests over the next couple of days. The house feels so empty. We've never not had a dog the whole time we've lived here (10 years). Have been holding it together all day but just had a glass of wine and am now in floods.

How's your lovely boy doing OP and you??

LordRothermereBlackshirtCunt · 06/02/2017 22:32

Thanks for asking, Hyacinth. We still don't know what's wrong with him. They have sent off for various blood tests and we should have results tomorrow. One of them is for lymphoma, which is very worrying. The liver is still not looking right, though the vet thinks the intestinal ulcer may have shrunk a little. We went to see him today and he is so unhappy. He has always hated the vets, and he won't respond to the nurses trying to reassure him, and won't eat or go for a wee. The vet is talking about putting a feeding tube in him. We are so worried about him.

Oh gosh what a bloody awful time you're having. Crossing everything that they find the cause and he picks up. Beautiful dogs. I can't imagine how you're feeling.

OVienna · 07/02/2017 22:44

OMG - Thinking of you and your DG - Lord Rothermere
What is the news on the overnight?

LordRothermereBlackshirtCunt · 08/02/2017 06:04

They think there is a serious problem with his liver. They need to do a biopsy to establish what exactly. They will try to do it today, but his platelet count is low, so it may not be until tomorrow when they are higher. They are putting a feeding tube into him today as he won't eat at all. We tried to hand feed him fresh fish yesterday but he refused it. He is normally the greediest dog in the world - he has one of those bowls at home specially designed to slow down his eating speed.

Poor dog and poor you - hope they find the problem soon and can start making him better

HyacinthsBucket · 08/02/2017 08:26

I can't even begin to imagine how you're feeling. Poor boy - sounds horrific Sad sending hugs and hoping the vet soon has the answers.

AnitaPallenbergsKnees · 08/02/2017 08:31

Sending very best wishes to you and your boy.FlowersFlowers

Tootyfilou · 08/02/2017 12:16

So very sorry for you all. Hope he gets better soon.

LordRothermereBlackshirtCunt · 08/02/2017 14:09

No biopsy today as platelet counts are too low. So, another day in the vets. We just want him to come home so that we can look after him somewhere where he won't be frightened. I had to come home from work at lunchtime today - I have a demanding job where you have to be "on" all the time, and it just all got too much today. Grieving for our girl has been kind of suspended by the subsequent events, but it's starting to hit me hard now.
