Unwanted dog mating, prevent pregnancy?

My boyfriend has two dogs, a bitch rottweiler and a pedigree Belgian malinous, the bitch is two and a half and in season. He stupidly let them out together as he thought the dog was too young at 9 months to lock on to her.

As it happens he has. Obviously it is not a good idea to cross those breeds and the pregnancy won't be going ahead. Is yhe really a way to prevent a pregnancy like the morning after pill for dogs?

He is going to ring around the vets and see if there is one open today.

So he's left her intact because he didn't want her to have time off work? What? Does he work 52 weeks a year? There must be some contingency for when he's not there, should be the same for the dog.

I feel a bit bad that this is making you question the relationship but honestly, he sounds like a Delboy with his animals

I've got a working dog from amazing lines. I can go back 8 generations in her pedigree and they are all field trial champions - practically unheard of.
I work her with people who breed their dogs, and when she around 9 months, people would casually ask if I was going to breed or spay. When I said I was undecided, they said 'it will be interesting to see what she is like in a year'. Meaning despite all her amazing breeding, there is no knowing what she will like as a working dog and there is no knowing what her hips and elbows will be without an x-ray. No one said 'breed from her and we will go halfs' or similar. No half sane person would. It's insane.
Not that I couldn't get a grand a puppy if I sold them online.

I've heard of similar 'deals' to your bf where the selling breeder with broker stud deals for the pup a year or two down the line. It's always dodgy as fuck. It's a backyard breeder wanting to trade off the bloodline without the hassle of having an extra dog at home.
The pup's owner gets a bit of cash so they are happy

But you can bet your bottom dollar the only people who would use a stud dog under this arrangement are amateur breeders who are starry eyed at the lineage but know fuck all about breeding. Exactly the last people who should be breeding and probably the #2 source of dumped dogs after puppy farms.

He is a piece of shit to contribute to it, in exchange for a few hundred quid a shag for his dog, who will also be going out of his mind for being kept in the same house as an entire bitch.

You do sound the opposite to him in matters of basic humanity to animals. Noone (esp one who claims to be so close to such 'reputable' breeder) can claim any excuse for letting this happen.

I sincerely hope that he doesn't 'forget' now about this morning-after pill and work this bitch till she produces a litter! I really wouldnt be at all surprised and you'd be horrified I'm sure.

Well if he can't give her any time off to spay her he has a shock coming if he tries to whelp her!!
