Have just sent my dog breeder a snotty message on a public fb forum

Years and years ago a respected breeder (cruft winning, professional dog shower type) sold me a psychopath of a dog. I firmly believe she knew the dog had issues (was an o,der dog). As I got in the car she told me to be careful of the dog round my husband as "he'd never met any men". Which I thought was odd. He attacked my husband within five minutes of been home and attacked him every day for two years, as well as biting other people. We spent a fortune on behaviorists.

This woman ignored my emails and phone messages.

Ive just seen her post a message on the breed specific group on fb. Ive posted a very long reply to her telling her she should be ashamed of herself for what she did to us. And made it very clear to anyone else who will read the post that she ignored our emails, etc.

I'm a little bit scared of how she will react!

Was an older dog.

Well I would be interested to see if she does reply to me. An apology would be nice. We went through hell because of her and I nearly ended up divorced because of that dog. and I guess that I would like other people in the circle of this dog breed to know what she's like.....although talking to some in the past I think a lot have an inkling.

Sounds awful. Why was she selling an older dog? I agree that she must have known that there was an issue to have said that about men

Maybe in the future if people join the group to ask if anyone can recommend a good breeder people might be less likely to recommend her and recommend someone more honest instead. Although after I got my dog and googled her name a bit more indepth I found a previous buyer had taken her to court for misselling a dog and lying and got 10k compensation. In my excitement when I googled her I didn't get past the first 20 hits detailing all the Cruft wins and the stories of how she introduced the breed to the country.

I rang up and asked if she had any puppies available soon and she said yes but also that she had two six month old dogs available now who had never sold. In my total stupidness I thought this sounded fantastic as I would be able to miss out on some of the toilet accidents! And of course the dog was a bit cheaper than a puppy. Id never had a puppy before, only rescue dogs and didn't know about sociaisation.

She told me over the phone that the puppies had been brought up in the home but when I got there there were dozens of dogs in pens. And these were the ones I could see, there was a big stable block where I could hear dogs barking and there were girls with wheelbarrows cleaning the stables out. I guess it was a total puppy farm, but one with proper very good pedigrees. I should have walked away but then I went in the house and the walls were totally wallpapered in rosettes, and photos of her winning crufts (her dogs did well again this year) and trophies everywhere so I convinced myself such a good breeder must be ok.

So either the dog had been kept in a stable for six months and not socialised (she said he had just never sold) or he had been sold once and was returned for biting. Guess I will never know which.

Ive just seen another post from her about winning some best of breed thing and an American lady has posted a gushing post about how this woman is the best breeder in the world, and american breeders need to study her dogs and how it's her dream to own one of this breeder's dogs. Just makes me so cross that some people think she's so wonderful!!

Oh and she also implied my dog would be KC registered and when I got there said she wasn't going to register him as I was getting him at such a bargain price (still £hundreds) that it wasn't worth it for her. Since found out it costs something like £11 for a kc registration so I'm suspicious about why she wouldn't register him. Was she overbreeding? Inbreeding? Something wasn't right.

Also your poor dh being attacked on a regular basis. I think I would have returned the dog or considered pts. Is he is a danger to others too?

We had the dog pts after two years of trying. Didn't feel that I could responsibly rehome him.

Good for you. Was the actual thread her own? If so blocking you will mean others don't see it. I'd actually start a post of mine own. Bun fight may ensure but remain factual and dignified and others will see her for what she is.

Something wasn't right for sure - and yes you should have walked away when you saw it was a puppy farm. You were very naive and she was a ruthless exploiter of animals and naive humans.

And yes he was dangerous to others as well. Funny thing with other people he would Attack them like he would Dh. He would just silently walk up behind them and sink his teeth in their leg, for no reason and with no warning and bad enough to draw blood. For two years I backed out the room every time I left a room because If I turned my back on him there was a chance Id be bitten. But he used to chase Dh round the house snarling and growling.....he was only a small dog but he still had sharp teeth! If Dh was downstairs and sneezed and the dog was upstairs with me the dog would charge downstairs barking and snarling in a fury and run to him and bite him.

We went to one of the top behaviorists in the country (a professor of animal behaviour) and he told Dh to back away from the dog if the dog was growling. I said well what should Dh do if the dog Carries on coming after him. The professor said he wouldn't, that once he saw Dh backing away the dog would feel safer and stop attacking.....well he was totally wrong! Dh used to throw treats and cheese at the dog all the time, he'd eat them all up and then bite him!

No, it wasn't her own thread. Someone else started a thread and she commented on it. I commented underneath her comment.

I wouldn't want to question the advice of a professional expert in animal behaviour but I would have thought backing away from a dog sends it a very clear message that it is dominant?

How awful for you op - I admire your perseverance in trying to do your best for this dog. I grew up with a failed police dog who had been born and lived in quarantine for the first six months of her life. Interestingly, lack of socialisation didn't make her aggressive - it had the opposite effect and she was terrified of her own shadow.

One of our dogs now is a rescue and very unpredictable and can be very aggressive with other dogs. It makes me very anxious so I can't begin to imagine how awful your situation must have been. Anything you can do to damage this awful woman's reputation and shut down her puppy farm is to be applauded as far as I'm concerned.

I just googled podengo as I hadn't a clue what they looked like. Then, cos I'm nosy, I googled breeders - one has come up as 'world famous' breeder of the breed along with border terriers and another breed.....as well as a variety of other animals. Is this your breeder?

I can understand your anger, it must have been heartbreaking for you to make the decision to pts. And of course your poor husband being repeatedly bitten.

Maybe your post will make others more wary and that can only be a good thing - particularly for the poor dogs. I hate irresponsible breeding.

Good point. Though it sounds like the op may have emails to support her accusations plus vets who could support her claims.
