Please can I have all of your pull through vibes please. I took on a 13year old staffy 2 days ago. She is the sweetest dog I have ever met but came down quickly with vomiting and diarrhea, this morning the discharge started heavily and she was rushed to emergency Vets. She has been stabilised with fluids, antibiotics and painkillers and is now heading to theatre for pyometra. I feel hopeless

Thankyou all, will try and get all this out in a way that makes sense, sorry I'm so tiered.
Arrived at Vets at 6.30 to collect Molly, I would quoted 200 for this op and that info I relayed to rescue, I was handed a breakdown of a £500 bill.
Got called in to consult room with young vet nurse, who clearly new nothing about Molly and was reading standard care letter to me, she also gave me Molly's meds in a bag that only had eye drops in, I had to point out the breakdown also included metacam-antibiotics and a recovery diet, and she giggled and went to get missing meds.
On her return I asked how a quoted Bill of £200 could get to £500, she actually read breakdown and said 'hehehe the vets can just make figures up', I shit you not, I said I wanted to talk to Vet and she scuttled off for someone else thats had no involvement with Molly, this vet said quote on screen was £200 I had that morning and tried to blame cost on biopsys. I had to again point out thats £50 in Bill. Blahblah they will query bill with Molly's op vet tomorrow, got Molly and left.
Get home, Molly has a much longer scar, with real stitches that seem far to wide but tight iyswim. The wounds still bleeding, Molly is in and out of ko'd, crying and a really servere gurgling tummy and retching.
I have to have a meltdown on phone to my mum before ringing Vets again, to get the ooh vets this time. Explained all of above, that I'm fuming with vet nurse, that I don't think Molly should of been discharged. In her defense she was lovely and has given me good advice and will also be making sure bills quired and vet nurse is spoken to.
Molly has just had a bowl of chicken which is good but she's so restless.
I really need time off work to look after her as I can't risk my partner not picking up on the small stuff, but I won't get any time off without a disciplinary as had previous time off diagnosing my own stomach emergencys.
Sorry for essay

Glad that the ooh lady was helpful and I'm sure a bit of food inside Molly will not only make her feel a bit better but also help her heal. That first vet nurse really needs a talking to about professionalism, I would be fuming too.
Hope things look brighter in the morning. Xx

DogandBeardedDragon · 06/08/2014 06:53

She is alot brighter this morning shes very hungry. The breakdown shows Molly was on a drip, I'm really not convinced. She was weeing loads after last op and so far nothing :/

Glad to hear she is brighter x doesn't sound like she should have been discharged though :( if she's had surgery and isn't weeing I'd have thought they'd keep her in til she did because of the anaesthetic and strain in kidneys. But could be wrong there I'm sure someone will correct me.

I hope you get to the bottom of this mix up because how your supposed to trust in them when it's all so patchy I don't know :(

Hugs and cuddles to Molly x

Glad she is brighter this morning, not much puts a staffie of their food! Your vet does sound awful, do you have to use that vet through the rescue or can you change?

DogandBeardedDragon · 06/08/2014 09:07

How's Molly doing this afternoon?

Gileswithachainsaw · 06/08/2014 17:15

Checking in to see how Molly is. Hope she had a good day

hellymelly · 06/08/2014 17:27

Hope Molly is a bit better this afternoon.

DogandBeardedDragon · 06/08/2014 19:42

Molly is doing well, she has her appetite back and is doing good. I spoke to Vet practice manager today and got an apology about the treatment I received from vet nurse yesterday there going to investigate that personally. I also got rescue a £230 refund, the op was hugely overcharged. Also they have apologized for miscommunication between vets, reception and myself. Her biopsie results are back already and they show fast cell changes but are inconclusive unless they remove and send off the whole lump. I have decided at 13 not to put her through a mastectomy and no more operations. Going to let her recover now and enjoy her remaining months/years

Phew! Everytime I see this thread in actives I think the worst!

So glad the vets have apologized and refunded some money, the vet nurse sounds very immature and inexperienced!

I think you are making the right decision regarding more operations, when Rose was poorly with the tumour in her eye we decided if it was not good news we would not put her through treatments and operations she has suffered enough in her short life, we would have only be doing it for us and not her, thankfully her cancer was non spreading so when her eye and tumour were gone so was the cancer.

Fingers crossed she gets to sofa surf and eat nice treats for a while longer.

Gileswithachainsaw · 06/08/2014 19:52

I think you have made a good choice there. You seem incredibly observant and intuitive with your dogs and I have no doubt you don't need results of any more tests to know what to do and when.

I'm very relieved and glad to hear she's doing better. It's rare I fall asleep thinking of a thread but Molly's story has managed it and I've been really really hoping for a happy ending for you both.

I haven't posted for a while but have been following. Well done for taking such good care of her and fighting your corner with the vets after such shoddy service. Glad she is feeling better.

momnipotent · 06/08/2014 20:30

Glad to hear she is doing well, you've made exactly the choice I would have made OP.

Love her up!
(and cuddles from me please)

DogandBeardedDragon · 06/08/2014 22:16

Thankyou all your support has been amazing, the mammary lumps are in atleast her back 4 teats and I just don't think it's fair on her to put her through such a big surgery when she's at that stage in life where she just needs to enjoy her retirement. I'd rather have happy months with her and manage her in the sence of keeping her comfy than put her through more pain. She just needs love now and thats what she will get.

How is Miss Molly today?

DogandBeardedDragon · 07/08/2014 14:25

I'm at work at the mo but partner is home just rang him and shes doing well although has a hacking cough, think the 2 ops have irritated her throat, she has the vets tomorrow at 3pm to check her wound hopefully it will go well

Gileswithachainsaw · 07/08/2014 14:47

ClaimedByMe · 08/08/2014 17:08

How did she get on at the vets?

Gileswithachainsaw · 08/08/2014 22:34

Hope Molly is doing ok

KiwiJude · 10/08/2014 03:48

Hope Molly is doing well. A good decision, I think, to not put her through any further ops. She can enjoy her old age with you and I hope you get lots of quality sitting in the sun time together :)

DogandBeardedDragon · 10/08/2014 13:19

Sorry not been back to update, been in middle of broadband change over. Molly is doing really well, her check up went well and her stitches will be removed on Thursday. She has slight fluid under her stitches but nothing on the level it was.
