SIL cannot sell puppies - What next?

Confusedandazed · 10/07/2014 22:11

Hi, my SIL's dog got pregnant by accident. They own father and another dog. It is a mixed breed - part german shepherd part husky with other breeds thrown into the mix. There are 9 puppies, 3 have sold. But the other six are not budging. Added complication is that they are now 7 weeks old and I know the window of opportunity to sell will be getting smaller as they get older. They are cute pups but very large.

What can she do? Obviously she cannot keep them....

So it wasn't an accident then? She is backyard breeder. That's why they won't sell. Responsible buyers wouldn't touch her with a barge pole.

Branleuse · 10/07/2014 22:35

thats a hell of a price for a mongrel

Confusedandazed · 10/07/2014 22:36

No, not after buyers on here. She lives at the other end of the country, and it is just after a conversation I had with her about the puppies made me curious what happens. I am with you on your opinions and it is only the puppies that suffer :(

OP posts:
Branleuse · 10/07/2014 22:37

shes already made over a grand from them. Not sure what else to say

WeAllHaveWings · 10/07/2014 22:37

This is why no one should ever buy from idiots like your SIL because it just encourages them to do it again and again.

McBear · 10/07/2014 22:37

Accidents don't happen twice!

I wouldn't pay that for any mongrel.

I paid 115 for my beautiful and perfect pedigree Rottweiler. Well probably pedigree, I didn't care. He's just a big cuddle bear and was once a teeny tiny adorable pup.

GobblersKnob · 10/07/2014 22:37

£400! Shock

I agree they shouldn't be given away, a committed owner will be happy to pay for a pup, but £150 is more like it for a litter of accidental mongrels.

Confusedandazed · 10/07/2014 22:37

The second litter was not planned she said. She said male dog managed to jump dog gate.

HicDraconis · 10/07/2014 22:38

Second litter? Accident?

NickiFury · 10/07/2014 22:38

Again, how does she describe them in her ad charging £400?

Wolfiefan · 10/07/2014 22:39

Accident my arse.

Eastpoint · 10/07/2014 22:39

Nickifury cockapoos - cocker spaniel/poodle crosses go for £950. Puppy farm Bichon frisees are £350.

Disclaimer: I don't own either but know what others have paid.

SecretNutellaFix · 10/07/2014 22:40

So she is a backyard breeder?

I would contact a rescue and see if any of them have any space to take them. They'll be pissed off- the rescues are bursting with unwanted and badly treated animals and your SIL is adding to the problem by being greedy and breeding willy-nilly- but they do actually crae about where they place the animals in their care.

ChuffMuffin · 10/07/2014 22:40

£325 for heinz 57 puppies?! Has the world gone fucking mad?

She needs to get her dogs spayed and stop backyard breeding.

Confusedandazed · 10/07/2014 22:41

German Shepherd / Husky cross.

gertiegusset · 10/07/2014 22:41

MNetters live the length and breadth of the country, just because they live far from you doesn't mean the poor puppies aren't near to anyone on here.

MitchellMummy · 10/07/2014 22:42

I totally agree with other posters ... but it's happened now so needs to find a solution. A rescue centre MAY take them as it could be easier to rehome puppies than adult dogs. Free to good home may result in bad stuff, though if it's people she knows well then maybe that would work. Good luck.

thenightsky · 10/07/2014 22:42

Wow at £400 Shock

I paid £20 for my 3/4 lovely lab.

D0oinMeCleanin · 10/07/2014 22:42

I'm sorry but given the recent trend of numpties attempting to recreate wolves and the massive rise of northern breeds in rescues there is no way in hell anyone would believe that a litter of those crosses was an accident.

Impawtant pups rescue specialise in puppies and young dogs. They might help her. The husky rescues also take on crosses. Those breeds will an experienced owner and specialised care. If she is not careful who she sells to they are all destined for rescue or worse.

CelibacyCakeandElevatorMuzac · 10/07/2014 22:43

Your sister should be hanging he head in shame.

Irresponsible.

Get them PTS , save the heartache the poor animals will go through if they're advertised on Gumtree and end up in the dog fighting ring.

Oh and if she sees sense and gets a rescue involved how about she uses the money she made on the 3 she sold to help with fixing the mess they're having to help her out of!?

buggerboooo · 10/07/2014 22:44

People like your sil are scum. Total scum. No morals, sense or compassion.

She is just a greedy idiot hoping to make money out of her poor dogs.

KatieKaye · 10/07/2014 22:44

I cannot believe anyone would pay that sort of money for a Heinz 57. Why would they? It sounds like a lie to try and get as much as she can. Did she bother to check out the new owners or was she only interested I the colour of their money?
She sounds horribly greedy and careless of animals. I wouldn't want to pay for a dog from someone like her.
If she insists on charging then the same amount as a rescue centre/ local cat and dog home. Certainly less than £100 and yes, she will have lost money in terms of food, vets bills etc but hopefully it will encourage her to get the other dogs neutered too. Although it sounds as if she wants to keep breeding from the bitch. I despair.

EvaBeaversProtege · 10/07/2014 22:44

So £300 + for a part German shepherd, part husky with other breeds thrown into the mix... I think not!!!

NickiFury · 10/07/2014 22:44

I knew it! two "glamourous" breeds, nice money maker for her and she fails to mention the other breeds involved too.

I am beginning to think though that you are not all your seem because the info in your posts is quite provocative and seems designed to get maximum reaction.

Confusedandazed · 10/07/2014 22:45

I will tell her to check for local rescue centres.
